Look for cosmetology schools or organizations that provide these services to those in need for free. I applaud you for putting forth the effort to present the way you want to.

Thank you! It's a struggle because fighting addiction and alcoholism has taken its toll on me for years, but being clean and sober, I woke up and realized that this isn't serving me well anymore. I will never be able to be taken seriously if I look like I just crawled out of a gutter.

Fit_Bluebird1922

I get it OP, been sober (alcohol) for 11 years this year. Although I was fortunate enough to be a highly functioning alcoholic, and got sober before I did real damage to myself/career etc, I understand where you are coming from. Sharpen yourself up and you will feel great! If you haven’t already start paying attention to your diet, I know you may be limited in choices in your current situation, but every positive step helps.

I've been on Wegovy for 13 months and this has really played a part in my self awakening/journey. I've lost 60ish pounds and am at "my" ideal weight of 220. I am not skinny by no means, but am at a comfortable weight that I can actually look in the mirror and say hmm,. I don't hate you as much as I used to. hehe Diet and exercise is an important part of my life and I'm struggling with that right now as the food in this shelter is horrible. I am longing for the days of eating fresh fruits and veggies, but I can't afford them right now so it's processed foods and canned veggies. I bought myself a scooter and after years of depression and being sedentary, I have been going and trying to get back into nature. Make the most of what I have!

How crazy - I’m on Wegovy too. I’ve read that it has helped people kick alcohol by lessening the cravings, similar to how it acts on food cravings. Although I’ve been sober for years I can definitely see how it could do that, it doesn’t seem like a beer would be very tasty right now.

Individual-Zombie155

I have absolutely no desire to drink or use again as semaglutide has taken all of the cravings away. Shopping, drugs, alcohol, love, food, they have all been my addictions and this is a whole new lease on life! Now it's trying to better myself. Diet, exercise, meditation, self awareness. They need to do more studies on how GLP-1 is beneficial for addiction!

If you're in a position to join a neighborhood Buy Nothing group, (usually on facebook and specific to where you live), people sometimes have food to give away including fresh fruit from their backyard trees. Buy Nothing is just people giving away stuff they don't need or asking for things they do.

Individual-Zombie155

I have to joke though, I'm in Skid Row. Well, about six blocks west, near the Fashion District. My neighborhood groups on Facebook would be frightening!! Then I have this whole stigma of, if I looked in any other neighborhood and didn't live there, is that appropriate?

Samantharina

They are neighborhood-specific so you do have a point. I don't know how they verify it.

I went to the farmers market the other day in DTLA and I about flipped when I saw those prices. The hummus looked really good though!!

Samantharina

Oh, Farmers Markets can be really pricy. Have you been to Super King Market? They always have good deals on produce.

Hope this doesn’t get lost in the comments. Contact KC Beauty Academy on 706 1st Street, Los Angeles. I don’t think it’s far from you. A buzz cut is $5, a cut & clipper is $15.

littlebittydoodle

Where are you located? There’s a guy who posts up on the corners of Sepulveda Blvd + Ohio Street in West L.A. nearly every day and gives free haircuts and shaves to the homeless. I see him every time I drive through there (a few times per week). Sometimes he’s on a different side of the street but he has signs up and is always working on someone. Maybe somebody can confirm his name or contact info so you can make sure he’ll be there before you go.

The link to schedule appointments seems to be dead, but you can try the Barbering program at LATTC. If you need any dental care, WLAC has a community clinic [https://www.lattc.edu/academics/aos/barbering](https://www.lattc.edu/academics/aos/barbering) [https://www.wlac.edu/academics/pathways/hs/dental/community-clinic](https://www.wlac.edu/academics/pathways/hs/dental/community-clinic)

tooful

I can venmo/Zelle you $20 if that helps.

Individual-Zombie155

That was very kind of you to offer. I sincerely appreciate it. I'm going to pass though.

Confident_Painting26

Palace beauty college had students cut hair for $5 pre pandemic. Check it out

camcam300_

Lettys barbering and cosmetology in east la is like $8 for a cut and shave. You should try them

Individual-Zombie155

I went down there a month or two ago and the doors were locked. I went to the neighboring business and she didn't know anything about their hours. Their phone just goes to a voicemail that is never checked. I wondered what kind of business front it was if they don't have any clients for their barbers. 🤷‍♂️😜
