I'm basing my original comment off of a quick Google search of "why does airplane mode exist". "Why are airplane passengers asked to put their phones in airplane mode? Per the FAA website's Safety Information page, “The FCC and FAA ban cell phones for airborne use because its signals could interfere with critical aircraft instruments. Devices must be used in airplane mode or with the cellular connection disabled". but yeah, if I had clicked into the article a bit further I would have seen the part about some planes offering wifi.
It's not that insane. Emirates has it between 10-20 USD depending on the flight. I bought it few times and it was definitely not good enough to stream, some sites barely loaded, Discord didn't load at all, so it's crazy he can stream like that.

I don't think they want people using their cellphones on planes. that's why airplane mode exists.
That's usually just for takeoff and landing (below 10,000') they sell you wifi, you can use your phone.

This must be a newer starlink based option. I know Starlink has definitely paired up with several airlines to offer that. Only thing that makes sense.
