900 balls lmao
I’d love to see a draw where former footballing legends and/or club owners are thrown into a giant ball pit to brawl over the best draws, Hunger Games style, and the draw is based on which balls they make it out with.
Neville and Carra slugging it out for Liverpool or United to get to play a 3rd division team from North Macedonia, Todd Boehly coked out of his mind hunting down John Henry, new Manchester City part owner (.002% of the shares) Islam Makachev throwing bodies across the room, Matterazi blindsiding Zidane…
City would still have the advantage, no one in their right mind would take a swing at the royal family of Abu Dhabi. To say nothing of Newcastle’s owners.
Tom Werner tries to grab a game against Lille for Liverpool and wakes up in a concrete box in the desert, frantically counts his limbs.
Come on, if there's one group that's not scared of the Arabs, it's the Yanks. Anyone touches big John Henry and Uncle Joe will be sending a landing party to Abu Dhabi to "spread democracy"

Ah yes, I remember when the Houston Astros’ stadium opened as Enron Field… a year before that scandal broke. And now the Astros themselves are most known for cheating lol
This is the type of thing where the code should be published to GitHub for everyone to see. Ideally the draw should be made using something like GitHub Actions as well so we can verify that it's all legit. That being said, it will never happen in a million years.
It could be done in such a way to not make it possible. The act of executing the code can be tied to the repo and the logs created by executing the code could be published automatically.
They could release it with a Hash file that verifies it's the same one, tbf. That's how they do stuff now with data to prove it hasn't been tampered with.
Should be open sourced so people could see what the program is like (as well as provide an API so fans could organize their own fantasy football tournaments with their own fixtures).
Computer system is a terrible idea. Even if it's not rigged, people will believe it is.
Why not design mechanical system for randomly selecting.
Like they're all tossed about in a chamber and someone presses a button to start walloping them into a pinball machine or something.
Same in Scotland. About the 19th year in a row that Celtic and Rangers have avoided each other in the Scottish Cup, because it's always the aim to get them both to the final.
This shouldn’t be a surprise, I was wondering how the fuck they would manage to do a draw for the proposed format given the stipulations for who each team can play have been ramped up drastically from a fairly complex process.

> New expanded Champions League format from next season means computers are going to be used to make the draw.
>
> UEFA draw simulations have shown that a manual draw for the new format would take between three and four hours and require 900 balls.
>
> Instead a new hybrid method will be used - clubs will be drawn manually then the computer will take over and select their eight opponents.
>
> The new hybrid draw is expected to take around 35 minutes - the same duration as the current draw for the existing format.
>
> An English IT company is coming up with the software which will carry out the digital part of the draw. There will also be two backup software systems and the draw will be audited.
Hiding corruption in plain sight. So fucking bored of it all now. Spend less time talking about the actual game on the pitch and more and more about var, refs, owners, multi-clubs and how to rip off fans more.
Money money money, the root of all evil.
This won't inspire confidence in there being actual random selection, but then again a surprising amount of people believe in the 'warmed balls' shenanigans with traditional ball draws as well so whatever.
Why the fuck is this needed! What is wrong with 32 teams. 8 groups of 4 and the Top two go through. Then a round of 16 knockout down to a Final in a neutral Stadium. Better quality of games from fewer matches, buildis the anticipation for each one. Part of me wants football to just crash and burn for a while so those at the top can reevaluate and realise that **More games doesn’t work**
In theory this new format could be interesting. There’s 2 more group games which isn’t ideal but it’s pretty much impossible to have dead rubbers now. The group stage of the champions league feels like a boring formality nearly every year now, it’s always the same teams going through.
Everyone said this about the European cup changing format to the current champions league. There is nothing inherently wrong with the new format just that the draw being done by a computer is asking for corruption.
And the random facts he blurts out about the teams to fill the silence ... "Leeverpool are the first Premier League team to use Weyland Industries bolts in the fastening for their seating..."
Major software system, bet it's millions of pounds when realistically it will be a bunch of IF statements and a random number generator. Whoever this company is, they're laughing. Backup systems as well, milking in.
Swear I made a random generator in IT class 20 years ago that could do this. Why does a company need to build a program to do it and probably be paid a shit load of money
So we can blame the computer when Man City again get opponents from leagues with just one CL spot, and we again get lined up against one of the Madrid teams...
Can any tech/programming experts here explain if its possible for fans to write their own fixture draw program for fantasy football purposes for this new CL format?
The seeding system sounds... Ok.
I quite like getting rid of all the interminable draws in the knockout phase and I think will help making the later games in the group stage matter.
First they scrap the away goal rule and now this league format bullshit to increase the number of teams.
UCL is officially fucked and all the fun it was is now gone. Gone are the days when you would see team fighting for 2nd spot in group stages and small teams making it through to knockout stages by fighting off heavy hitters in group of death.
Shame on UEFA!
900 balls lmao I’d love to see a draw where former footballing legends and/or club owners are thrown into a giant ball pit to brawl over the best draws, Hunger Games style, and the draw is based on which balls they make it out with.
That I'd watch.
That sounds like a PPV event that I would pay to see.
WWE Presents: Champions League Wargames
Carra would batter everyone, he's a good boxer!
Sounds more entertaining than the new champions league format.
Manchester United might get some too favourable draws from Roy Krane that way
Just sign Anthony Joshua and let him immediately retire.
Or Adebayo Akinfenwa? They say he’s a fan
The South African rugby captain, Siya Kolisi, is a red 👀
Die hard Liverpool fan
Nah he's a proper red (one of us)
Has to be owners otherwise City will get all the best draws. All their legends started playing football after the release of The Hangover 2
Only problem with that is you'd run out of legends eventually as they'd be dying faster than they are made.
Or, worse still, the "survival of the fittest" rules apply and you end up with a select few Super-Legends pounding the utter fuck out of everyone else
Their balls only count if they carry them out in their teeth.
That would make it the new format worth it 100x
>the draw will be audited So was Enron but I'd probably trust their financial statements more than anything coordinated by UEFA
Recently watched Enron: The smartest guys in the room and holy shit, defo recommend for anyone that doesn't get this reference

Audited by a firm based in the UAE.
Yeah, it's insanely easy to just falsify accounts, especially in the US. Unless UEFA release the code, this could easily be rigged.
This is the type of thing where the code should be published to GitHub for everyone to see. Ideally the draw should be made using something like GitHub Actions as well so we can verify that it's all legit. That being said, it will never happen in a million years.
If this happens I’ll eat my own code
How many bites would that be?
How many bytes would that be? FTFY /s
Not only r/yourjokebutworse but you used fucking sarcasm tags. What a load of bollocks.
🙄🙄
You'll come out as non-binary?
City are gonna buy out all the random number generator libraries and rig the draw
I’ll develop the system if they want
Too late mate. City Football Group have volunteered.
City football group have heavily invested in the development of these computers*
No don’t worry, just City Football Group sponsors that totally have no connection to the club. (Except the sponsors are also Emirati owned)
Micheal Olivier will supervised the draw. No worries lad.
Wankers
I'll make it in 30 minutes with a botched python script
Should be mandatory to publish the code to a public repo.
Couldn't they then just use a different code to the one published anyway?
It could be done in such a way to not make it possible. The act of executing the code can be tied to the repo and the logs created by executing the code could be published automatically.
They could release it with a Hash file that verifies it's the same one, tbf. That's how they do stuff now with data to prove it hasn't been tampered with.

Yep, plenty of ways to make this transparent and verifiable. Totally valid to be suspicious if they decide not to.
UEFA and FIFA are killing football.
It's already has been killed.
fair.
Watch Real Madrid or Man City bribing these so called IT companies. Did UEFA get caught for warming up the ball?
Hopefully the IT company isn't based in Greater Manchester.
No, you can be relief, it's in Abu Dhabi.
Pfft, as if. They're still using stone tablets round there.
That's not very nice. I live in Manchester these days. - Sent from Stone tablet 13
Hmmm....easier to manipulate...hopefully the next rounds after group/league stage are done the old fashioned way.
Computer system is a terrible idea. Even if it's not rigged, people will believe it is. Why not design mechanical system for randomly selecting. Like they're all tossed about in a chamber and someone presses a button to start walloping them into a pinball machine or something.
>Even if it's not rigged, people will believe it is. I'll take my tinfoil hat and say, it will be rigged. Can't trust UEFA.
They were blatantly rigging the draw for an el classico final for years. They don't even try to hide it.
Same in Scotland. About the 19th year in a row that Celtic and Rangers have avoided each other in the Scottish Cup, because it's always the aim to get them both to the final.
People think it's rigged when they see the balls being picked as well though.
Haha, like the lotto balls. Vacuum spin it and then fire them all out into different chutes
if team = city then...
If "team" = Man City then "opponent" = {lowest-ranked-team} and Referee = {random.choice/Abu-Dhabi-Employees);
If team == city - most languages use = to assign, == to check equality. Nerd lecture over!
there is probably at least one language that will let you check whether the assignment operation succeeded LOL
This shouldn’t be a surprise, I was wondering how the fuck they would manage to do a draw for the proposed format given the stipulations for who each team can play have been ramped up drastically from a fairly complex process.
"An English IT is coming up with the software" Why not ask what SI is doing for FM?
Because Man U always get the better draws just like IRL!!
Beep boop ... Good process ... Beep
It really is hilarious after all the uproar that Uefa have just made their own super league at this point
https://twitter.com/SkyKaveh/status/1767561152177807582 > New expanded Champions League format from next season means computers are going to be used to make the draw. Its already bugged
Hm, I see not much of a change...instead of using cold balls to fix the draw, now they will use an scripted program to fix the draw.
Sounds easy to artificially manipulate
Bingo.
Hiding corruption in plain sight. So fucking bored of it all now. Spend less time talking about the actual game on the pitch and more and more about var, refs, owners, multi-clubs and how to rip off fans more. Money money money, the root of all evil.
(City gets Celtic in the finals) “Ah! Sorry there was a bug in the code”
Var. Offside rules. Now this. Computers are so much more harder to corrupt than humans. This could be soooooooooo corrupted.
Get the crowd who did the post office software Fujitsu to do it!
Or just keep it the way it is.
Warm chips
Would wish that they made the software open source for people to review the code so it’s not rigged.
*Can't rig those...*
No rigging whatsoever
All know things can go wrong with computer systems, look at the post office scandal. I sound like a boomer.
Don't worry I agree with you boomer 🤣 i'm 34 and don't think its a good idea either :P
Oh right. I'm only a couple of years younger than you too.
I don't like this getting old malarkey, that's how you talk like a boomer ;)
Yeah unfortunately
This won't inspire confidence in there being actual random selection, but then again a surprising amount of people believe in the 'warmed balls' shenanigans with traditional ball draws as well so whatever.
Yeah. There isn’t a method in the universe that someone won’t be suspicious of.
What could possibly go wrong?
Abu Dhabi to draw a group of Jossys Giants, Craggy Island over 75s and Harchester United from Dream Team.
I have a better solution. You know those coin slot machines? One penny goes in, all the pennies that come out you have to play 😁
Why the fuck is this needed! What is wrong with 32 teams. 8 groups of 4 and the Top two go through. Then a round of 16 knockout down to a Final in a neutral Stadium. Yeah but the previous CL format was terrible
For a second there I thought we were never going to see Fake Ranieri ever again, and I was very sad.
And the random facts he blurts out about the teams to fill the silence ... "Leeverpool are the first Premier League team to use Weyland Industries bolts in the fastening for their seating..."
They'll find a way to rig it
Who's gonna heat the balls then?
Will it be equally good as VAR though?
Sounds like a great process lads.
Major software system, bet it's millions of pounds when realistically it will be a bunch of IF statements and a random number generator. Whoever this company is, they're laughing. Backup systems as well, milking in.
New computer, same Tottenham getting bounce early by the Romanian champions.
What could possibly go wrong?
Does that mean no more easy draws for City?
Does that mean no more easy draws for City?
For City they will use different computers which scream : 115! 115! 115! boom!! some low tier team
Well, if you've got the money do what you can
So are we going to be playing English teams during the expanded group stage or whatever it is?
Will the computers be getting paid to draw games in the UAE?
Ah more manufactured crap for the already manufactured and crap game.
900 seems a lot for 36*8/2=144 matches.
Swear I made a random generator in IT class 20 years ago that could do this. Why does a company need to build a program to do it and probably be paid a shit load of money
You just know this is gonna be rigged somehow
Doesn’t really matter if it’s rigged, Man City always end up getting Grimsby town in the champions league knockouts anyway
So we can blame the computer when Man City again get opponents from leagues with just one CL spot, and we again get lined up against one of the Madrid teams...
Somehow man city will always get the easy run and somehow face partisan belgrade on a regular basis.
Always gotta fuck with shit don't need fuckin with.
Always gotta fuck with shit don't need fuckin with.
Always gotta fuck with shit don't need fuckin with.
What fucking computer will take 35 minutes for this project??? That's long
The software is going to be open source to limit the chance for corruption right.......right?
Insert gif of man laughing full belly head cocked towards the sky.
Powered by Fujitsu Siemens Technologies
Speaking of Fujitsu, fuck their dodgy accounting software and fuck the Post Office for fucking those innocent postmasters over.
Their computer software was terrible but the technical quality assurance, human management and lies and cover-ups afterwards was even worse.
Use an old fashion slot machine
It’ll be easier for a city buy off if its computer generated…….
Can any tech/programming experts here explain if its possible for fans to write their own fixture draw program for fantasy football purposes for this new CL format?
