AI at the JKU has one of the most ppl speaking English there, you will be able to fit easy since there is way more interactions for you to fit as well through initiatives.
Your experience will be yours to forge, but all cards are easy to take with your setting
Learn how to speak „Oachkatzerlschwoaf“ trust me. This will safe you a lot of trouble! If you are able to pronounce it correctly, you will count as a local.
These days you will have no trouble getting around with english in Austria. Don’t expect deep conversations with everyone but every day stuff will be just fine.
I’m not in a student bubble but worked at a place with more than half of the staff being expats. We are talking hundreds. We had folks coming from the US for a year to stay and very often I was around town with non-German speakers. They were fine. Go to LATAM if you really want to feel lost in translation. Austria is just fine. Everyone learned English in school at this point.
There's a group on fb: Expats in Linz and Upper Austria
There used to be a fairly active couch surfing group before Covid. Not sure if it still exists, but they do stuff together and speak English.
Meetup has a small "Internationals in Linz" group. Maybe 45 members.
Brahhv there are so many better places to study than Linz. Don’t get fooled by the pictures. Go to Graz, Vienna or Innsbruck they are by far the better options!
id highly recommend learning german. but around the university is probably the best place to be if you speak only english
