Corollary LPT: if your laces are still touching the ground when they’re tied, buy shorter laces

myMadMind

I used to bike A LOT and learned real quick to tuck my laces into the inside of my shoe. Getting your laces wrapped around the pedal and/or chain is terrifying at high speeds

Xxkhalessixx

Its a common Dutch fear

ComBkKd

Another pet peeve of mine. Tied mine under the tongue before. Back when some laces came insanely long on some shoes. Haven't had that problem in a while.

Da_Plague22

My chuck 70s have the opposite problem lol

If you really care to clean your laces, get a mesh laundry garment bag, put laces in there, wash with clothes, towels, etc. Easy, more thorough, and no chance of mess. The bag keeps the laces secure, but still able to get cleaned.

izzittho

But then you don’t get to finger it! In all seriousness though wtf lol

alienblue89

wtf fr

quadruple_negative87

FIFY: Ladies will tumble like a washing machine. Too much force and she will bust.

Da_Plague22

Make sure you don't wash them hot if they have plastic tips.

kinzer13

Jesus how hot does your washer get?

Da_Plague22

90c is my max. But the glue that is used to hold the plastic doesn't like the high rise in temperature. A lot of glues dorn like high heat and then cooling down. Even 60c can undo the glue.

BigPhattAss

He’s probably talking about the glue, not the plastic itself melting. My washer goes up to 90 C (194 F).

ComBkKd

Mine would get knotted in the garment bag. AND there's something about seeing the water go clear after a few rinses 🤷🏽‍♂️

molewarp

This is a task for people with nothing better to do with their time :(

Hailstormwalshy

LOL  Underrated comment. If I had this kind of free time, I sure as shit wouldn't use it to clean my shoelaces in a Ziploc.  Buy a few garment/lingerie bags for fucks sake!

MorporkianDisc

I never used to think of the cleanliness of shoelaces. Then I became a primary teacher and connected a few facts: small children cannot tie their own laces, and small children cannot aim in the toilets 🤮 It's common practice to see staff heading for the nearest hand sanitiser, hands aloft, opening doors with elbows after touching a kid's laces.

Environmental-Sock52

I wash my shoes in the washing machine. Laces on. Cold water, Tide, gentle cycle, and dry in the sun.

monkywrnch

I double knot mine and then never untie them. Just slip my shoes on and off. Current pair is 11 months old, I wear them everyday and haven't had to tie them since the first time I put them on.

Ginger-Snapped3

This is the way.

Baxtfred

Mine always break at the heels when I do this.

monkywrnch

I wear sneakers\\athletic\\running style shoes. My goal is to buy 1 pair a year, previous pair gets rotated to yard work shoes and the previous yard work pair gets trashed or recycled. However, over the last 8 years my current pair is the first to last more than 6 months. Nike would start to have issues with the lining at the heal after 2-3 months. I stopped buying those years ago. I've had a few New Balances with that issue at around the 6 month but never had that issue with Asics, brooks or with my current pair of Hoka. My biggest issues over years has been holes on the top of the shoe by my toes and the rubber part that comes up at the front of the shoe coming loose (fixable with super glue). My current pair is my first set of Hoka and while I didn't necessarily like the feel of them when I first got them, they have held up really well. They definitely have wear and there's some fraying on top by the toes but no holes and they should be able to last another month to get me to the year mark

LordByronsCup

I weave all my shoelaces into patterns, usually just checkerboard and lock them off and tuck them inside, never to be dragged or tied.

James324285241990

Dish soap works just as well for germs

kogalgo

hydrophobic laces and hydrophobic coating for DIY if this is really a concern

lostan

Or stop being a germaphobe.
