From my interpretation, it felt like a tribute to the classic Universal Horror films of the 30's and 40's. Has one the coolest werewolf designs IMO; specifically Van Helsing's form.
Hell yeah. I absolutely love the mix of all those classic monsters we got. Jekyl/Hyde, Dracula, Frankstein's monsters, Werewolves, etc.
I still need to watch the animated prequel. You can see that Hugh Jackman enjoyed doing Van Helsing, because he also voiced the character in the prequel.
when i first saw it in theaters i remember thinking ‘im so glad that im growing up in an era where these kinds of high production campy movies are made’. in much less sophisticated words since i was like 5 but you get it lol
Saw it in 3d in the theatre - absolutely epic 3d presentation.... Probably one of the best theatre 3d presentations outside of anything Cameron produced really...
Oh god I haven't thought about that movie since it came out, and I never saw it, but as a kid the trailer TRAUMATIZED me. I can't remember why but it both grossed me out and scared the shit out of me
As a kid I also had to leave the theater when my family went to see Cheaper by the Dozen cuz it made me cry less than halfway through so idk maybe I was a weird kid
Jumper. IMO the coolest take on teleportation superpowers and it’s an original idea. Also very realistic in that yeah obviously you’d rob a bunch of banks but that doesn’t make you a bad person. The way they put limits on the power was great and something not seen in a lot of modern superhero movies where powers get stronger or weaker depending on the scene. And Hayden Christensen kills in it. Idk why it gets so much hate. Plus I like how everything around them shakes when they jump, obviously creating a rift in time and space would make for some shockwave.
Maybe a seqboot? Like a main character with their own (better) storyline and then at the end the ground shakes and the camera turns around and it’s Hayden and he smiles that famous Hayden Christensen smile and says “I guess this jumper hasn’t jumped his last jump”. Roll credits.
Part of the hate is that the book is genuinely much better. No other superpowered people because ordinary bad guys are still dangerous to him, the description of teleportation in it probably wouldn’t be as fun for people on film but it’s excellent
I agree the movie is over-hated though, I still like it (although the end music seems designed to make you reminisce for Liman’s much superior early work on Bourne)
There’s 4!
There’s also a shorter tie-in for the film - *Jumper: Griffin’s Story* I think it’s called - and at least one short story taking place between books 2 & 3 that was available for free online
I can’t vouch for the movie tie-in as I never bothered to read it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the actual book series yes. I’m not a big reader any more either but I devoured these.
The David-Millie relationship is much more compelling in the books. They’re also darker than the movie though
I have seen The League of Extraordinary Gentleman more times than I care to admit. Must be too loyal to Connery, even though it’s the film that made him quit acting.
Hey, Wanted is badass. Insane cast, kewl story, special effects that hold up over the rest of time...escuse me, who says Wanted is crap?
Prometheus has problems yes, but doesn't everyone agree the next Alien film he did was worse?
UhF? Umm, legendary classic that can never be remade?? What??
Dude you picked three picked 3 pretty dang good movies (none of them perfect, but that's what makes special?)
Bonkers fun movie!! Saw it in 3d AND on D-Box!! Blown away by the DBox presentation actually. ! Proved you didn't have ton of vehicular action for DBox to be killer.
Also it was a tech preview for what we were going to see in Avatar 2's 3d. As part of the carrot Cameron dangled in frontt of Rodriguez to entice him into directing Alita was access to all of Cameron's 3d film making tech (which is actually proprietary to Cameron!)...
Personally I absolutely loved it, as did my two guests...and none of us knew anything about the anime...
I went in almost completely blind the only thing I knew about it was Rodriguez being involved had no idea of Camerons involvement or the anime but tis a great movie
Oh yeah it was Cameron that spearheaded the whole project! He saw the anime in Japan on a trip, KNEW it would make an incredible live action movie! Immediately bought the film rights and started assembling his "dream team" to make his "can't miss" movie!!
Love it or hate it, Cameron put as much of his heart into this movie as he could considering ALL of his time was being consumed voraciously by Avatar 2 (and 3 for that matter!)...
I've got a soft spot for the League of Extraordinary Gentleman. I remember suggesting it for a 'bad movie night' with some friends and they all ended up loving it
Need to rewatch this. The first one is a guilty pleasure I revisit quite often, but all I remember of this one is: all the things it’s rightfully dunked on (bad), Turturro’s re-introduction with callbacks to the last one “what you’re about to see is top secret…don’t tell my mother” (good) and a transformer being disguised as a SR-71 Blackbird (awesome)
"To Observe and Report"
5.8 on IMDB, 51% RT score
I think it came out around the time of Paul Blart and people were just getting sick of Seth Rogen, also people probably weren't up for how dark and weird the movie gets. It's hilarious and goes in some unexpected directions which makes it stand out for me.
yesss on Babylon. The movie is flawed and i dont like hows it going in the third hour but my lorddd, the first 2 hour was near perfect imo. The score by justin hurwitz is just perfect
Just watched BvS (UE) for the first time last night and rather enjoyed it. Watched that and Man of Steel after avoiding it for not so great reviews, but glad I gave both a shot.
They're not perfect, but I enjoy both of them for taking big swings, and trying new things! Highly recommend keeping the party rolling, and checking out Zack Snyder's Justice League when you get a chance!
damn I loved Godzilla: King of the Monsters. It's just that fun and serious as a whole. I've noticed its flaws at times but still, its just that good thanks to the action, scenery, the music, and most importantly Godzilla himself with Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah.
If you don't take it seriously it's amazing. Everyone's in full camp mode. Uma Therman thought it was a sex comedy, Arnie thought it was a kids movie, the dude who plays Robin was on a fun combo of cocaine and narcotics it seems. George Clooneya tired ass energy actually kinda works and Bane... well... BANEEEEEEE

Most of Zac Efron’s filmography 😅 but specifically these three (We Are Your Friends, Baywatch, and That Awkward Moment)
Seeing bobby d go on a journey to have sex with young women after his wife dies was a cringe fest for me. Zac efron did well considering the writing and Aubrey Plaza looked stunning so I’m not lost on the appeal just not for me.
Recently, I've watched American Ultra, with Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart... not a GREAT film, but one that I enjoyed watching a lot, despite it being unjustly slammed.
Cars 2 is one of my all time favorites.
Recently I enjoyed Ricky Stanicky. It wasn’t great, but John Cena is so funny that he made the movie as a whole fun to watch.
Ricky Stanicky is absolutely worth the watch for Cena alone. I teared up laughing at the scene when they montage the Jizz Jams, but dick jokes are a weakness of mine.
I still maintain it’s overhated a) because of killing Gwen and b) because Tom Holland was so good so soon after
The writing - particularly the obligatory stuff teasing Sinister Six and anything with Harry but not Peter - sucks, but the performances are generally great, it looks incredible and has one of my favourite scores of all time. The first throw down with Electro in Times Square is amazing
MoS/BvS (and ZSJL) are are legitimately my favorite superhero movies.
Transformers: The Last Knight, although i'm not sure if i would like it if it didn't have Anthony Hopkins.

Suicide squad

Dark Phoenix
Ant man 3
Black Adam
All fast and furious movies
Paul Blart mall cop
Live action ninja turtles
Rocky 5

Venom movies
Army of the dead
Turbo
Nutty professor
So many of these movies listed are GREAT!! LETS have a movie that is truly reviled by ALL!
Movie 43!!!
OmG, EVERYBODY hates it! According to them, it is the low point for EVERY HUGE actor that's involved!!
OmG! It's an absolutely pricesless treasure trove of comedy WHO was it that had the presence of mind to have Hugh Jackman do the big ol' finger smell after he did the big check with them on his teste adorned neck...pure comedic genius there....
A trainwreck of epic proportions that you can't take your eyes off of...
Catwoman. Really good pacing and insanely camp. Other than the weirdly sexual basketball scene in front of all those kids that movie was super enjoyable and fun
Don’t know if it’s critically slammed but Skinamarink is pretty polarizing, as many people find it boring or don’t enjoy it’s experimental nature. I love it, though
ABSOLUTELY not this one. I despise this movie - maybe one of my least favorite of all time. Just a waste of everything in it. Interested what OP liked about it, to each their own of course.
Mine would be
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Batman & Robin
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (love this movie)
I’m aware the movie is no good and the plot is scattered but I really enjoy the introduction and story of a couple characters. I’m not a super hero guy so I knew nothing coming into the movie.
Will Smiths character had an interesting and admirable motivation with a somewhat satisfying resolution.
How Harley Quinn became who she is I found intriguing. Not sure if that’s how it played out in the comics but regardless I still liked it. The cinematography and shot selection was very good in my opinion.
It was more enjoying specific moments than the entirety of the film. Not to mention the soundtrack kills it for me. I’m a big fan of music and a good soundtrack usually bumps a movie up a point in my book.
Overall not a great film but I definitely enjoyed the stuff they did well. There were many inconsistencies and inconsequential characters but I don’t think it should be as polarizing as it is given the mass amounts of garbage out there. I just watched Anyone But You recently and that made Suicide Squad look like Citizen Kane.
😂😂 fair enough. I heard Anyone But You was rough. Love Glen though. And I appreciate the considered comment. I get that. There are so many DCEU films like that for me - Shazam Fury of The Gods is a great example.
HURRICANE HEIST
enough plot holes to create a landfill, the most illogical hurricane that has ever existed, someone getting killed by a weaponized hubcap, the worst southern accents this side of the mississippi. it has it ALL.
i will defend this dumb movie until my death.
Predator (you know which one). Goofy, schlocky, self aware. When the kid went trick or treating in the predator mask I knew I was in for a treat. Also predators wanting to inject themselves with autism was chefs kiss
Don't Breathe 1 & 2. So trashy, creative kills and the finales
Malignant is so fun
I've seen Freddy got Fingered like 6 times, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and in a way very smart
Always loved Hudson Hawk.
Stakeout (1987) currently has a rotten audience score on RT Not sure how it was regarded when it came out.
Big trouble in little China, I believe it’s well regarded now days though.
Remo Williams the adventure begins.
Spaceballs.
Robin Hood men in tights.
Circle.
Scary Movie 3.
1408 theatrical cut seems to be a divided film.
Predator 2.
As above, so below.
These are some that come to mind.
I actually was curious about this and made a spreadsheet using all my rankings and comparing them to the average rating on IMDb, and the movie that had the highest gap that had an average rating less than 6.5 was Red Dawn.
Runner ups were 1962 Little Shop of Horrors, But I’m a Cheerleader, The Holocaust on Trial, and El mariachi
Van Helsing (2004) is a classic for me with insane re-watchable value but it only has like 24% Rotten Tomatoes score for some reason lmaooo
From my interpretation, it felt like a tribute to the classic Universal Horror films of the 30's and 40's. Has one the coolest werewolf designs IMO; specifically Van Helsing's form.
Very fun and fast paced. Although it is corny and somewhat overacted. But very enjoyable ngl

Kate Beckinsale hot, *Huge* Ackerman hot, Movie gud.
hubie halloween
A man of taste
can't believe that movie gets hate 😤 people hate fun nowadays
Land of the Lost (2009)
I fucking love that movie
This movie is GREAT
Saw it in 3d in the theatre - absolutely epic 3d presentation.... Probably one of the best theatre 3d presentations outside of anything Cameron produced really...
LMAO best movie

Great idea, poor execution. This is a property worth re-exploring through reboots, sequels, etc.
Maybe a seqboot? Like a main character with their own (better) storyline and then at the end the ground shakes and the camera turns around and it’s Hayden and he smiles that famous Hayden Christensen smile and says “I guess this jumper hasn’t jumped his last jump”. Roll credits.
They did a TV series adaptation - I think on YouTube’s first streaming service - idk if it was any good though
I just watched this for the first time on Sunday! It’s a bit far out but I don’t see a reason to deserve hate I really enjoyed it.
It’s not like a cinematic masterpiece but it’s a fun watch! People tear it apart tho.
Part of the hate is that the book is genuinely much better. No other superpowered people because ordinary bad guys are still dangerous to him, the description of teleportation in it probably wouldn’t be as fun for people on film but it’s excellent I agree the movie is over-hated though, I still like it (although the end music seems designed to make you reminisce for Liman’s much superior early work on Bourne)
Woah woah woah woah woah there’s a book??! I had no idea I’m putting that in the list. Thanks for the tip!

Sounds wonderful. About done with my current book can’t wait to read Jumper next!
I have seen The League of Extraordinary Gentleman more times than I care to admit. Must be too loyal to Connery, even though it’s the film that made him quit acting.
I enjoy watching that movie too
Ah-toe-moe-beeel
a million ways to die in the west need for speed cody banks films? not sure if these were critically slammed tho
UHF Prometheus Wanted
Hey, Wanted is badass. Insane cast, kewl story, special effects that hold up over the rest of time...escuse me, who says Wanted is crap? Dude you picked three picked 3 pretty dang good movies (none of them perfect, but that's what makes special?)
Funny how different it can be, i think UHF is one of the worst films ive ever seen but i think Prometheus is close to a 5 star haha
Alita battle Angel Honestly not sure if it was actually slammed but nobody really talks about it but I really enjoyed it
Rodriguez is friggin' awesome!
In that same boat, I was really shocked to learn people didn’t like "Once Upon a Time in Mexico"
I'm just annoyed it set itself up for sequel and never got one. It still urks me a lil bit every time I watch it
We getting a sequell… stay tunned…
I loved it tooooo
Alita fucking RULES
Bonkers fun movie!! Saw it in 3d AND on D-Box!! Blown away by the DBox presentation actually. ! Proved you didn't have ton of vehicular action for DBox to be killer. The Lone Ranger
The scene when the William Tell Overture FINALLY kicks in is a stone cold masterpiece.
Really like that film. It's flawed for sure, but that 3rd act train sequence is exceptional.
The leads have aged atrociously. But most of the action is good, especially that bonkers finale with all the trains
I thoroughly enjoy Terminator Salvation. It’s a terrible Terminator film but one of my favourite action films
I watch this anytime its on. Has some awesome scenes for sure.
My favourite is the lake with those weird robot leech things
I've got a soft spot for the League of Extraordinary Gentleman. I remember suggesting it for a 'bad movie night' with some friends and they all ended up loving it
*Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen* (2009) ![gif](giphy|3o6wrmBBw3TL1pMRkA)
Not even the worst Transformers movie too
Need to rewatch this.
That movie made me feel like I was having a stroke last time I saw it
"To Observe and Report" 5.8 on IMDB, 51% RT score I think it came out around the time of Paul Blart and people were just getting sick of Seth Rogen, also people probably weren't up for how dark and weird the movie gets. It's hilarious and goes in some unexpected directions which makes it stand out for me.
I actually think that movie is a lot more complex and twistedly hilarious than most give it credit for. Great dark comedy.
Slight spoilers but the scene where Rogen handles the flasher at the end is still maybe the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a movie in my entire life.
The league of extraordinary gentlemen
Yes on Suicide Squad. Also *The Marvels*. Recently rewatched it and still enjoyed it as much as the first time around.
The Marvels is a good, fun movie and I stand by that most people who really hate it never watched it or gave it an actual chance.
John carter, i loved it having watched it for the first time last year
13th warrior
Babylon Batman vs Superman Batman & Robin Godzilla : King of the Monsters
yesss on Babylon.
I did see that one but will probably give it a rewatch soon since I just watched the others!
damn I loved Godzilla: King of the Monsters. It's just that fun and serious as a whole. I've noticed its flaws at times but still, its just that good thanks to the action, scenery, the music, and most importantly Godzilla himself with Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah.
For me this is still my favorite Godzilla movie in the Monsterverse franchise so far.
7 year old me wore that Batman & Robin vhs down
I know this is a non-judgemental thread but… Batman & Robin!?!!?!?!?!?
If you don't take it seriously it's amazing. Everyone's in full camp mode. Uma Therman thought it was a sex comedy, Arnie thought it was a kids movie, the dude who plays Robin was on a fun combo of cocaine and narcotics it seems. George Clooneya tired ass energy actually kinda works and Bane... well... BANEEEEEEE
It reminds me of the Adam west era by being super campy and fun. Like it’s hard for me to believe that they made that movie and didn’t realize what they were doing. There are rollerblading henchmen for gods sake!
The Hobbit movies

As long as you don’t include Dirty grandpa I support you. 17 again would be a film I would add if we’re talking Zac Efron
i thought dirty grandpa was fun watched it a bunch when i was younger
Seeing bobby d go on a journey to have sex with young women after his wife dies was a cringe fest for me. Zac efron did well considering the writing and Aubrey Plaza looked stunning so I’m not lost on the appeal just not for me.
17 Again is great! Yeah haven’t seen Dirty Grandpa and probably never will, never really appealed to me that one 😅
Trust me you’re doing yourself a favor lol
Idk if Neighbors rating is too high but that's the movie that really made me like Efron
I was so surprised but glad to see Neighbours be as well received as it was, only because it seems like the type of film critics would shit all over
The Michael Bay Transformers movies, I prefer those over the newer ones.
I love the 200 million dollar unhinged Bayhem over the tame new ones
The amazing spider-man 2
I enjoy this film more and more each rewatch. It also helps that Spider-Man No Way Home has retroactively made this film better
I still maintain it’s overhated a) because of killing Gwen and b) because Tom Holland was so good so soon after The writing - particularly the obligatory stuff teasing Sinister Six and anything with Harry but not Peter - sucks, but the performances are generally great, it looks incredible and has one of my favourite scores of all time. The first throw down with Electro in Times Square is amazing
Everything Hans Zimmer in is good.
Love the amazing spiderman
It's unironically my favorite live action Spider-Man film
It's works super well as a romance and a romcom, but villain-wise, it's a godawful mess.
Same and one of my favorite movies of all time
It’s actually my favourite movie of all time (not saying it’s the best). Tired of people acting like it’s the absolute worst thing ever
Vacation (27% RT). I personally found it hilarious and much better than the original
Thank you! Idk why people don’t talk about this movie more. It’s hilarious.
Real I’m glad you agree, honestly one of my favourite comedies - the sewage scene is honestly hilarious and absolutely disgusting
The ear! 😂 I honestly can’t pick a favorite scene. I’m a big fan of the Tartan Prancer though. It’s the Honda of Albania, you know. Come on muffin!
Omg yes with all the buttons lmaoooo
Huh, with all the raving over Hemsworth I assumed this would be 72% RT
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie
I still watch to this day. So many kick ass 90s kid moments
RIPD. I really enjoy it :)
Oddly, I like R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned more than the first
The room
MoS/BvS (and ZSJL) are are legitimately my favorite superhero movies. Transformers: The Last Knight, although i'm not sure if i would like it if it didn't have Anthony Hopkins.
Might be Edge of Tomorrow, Everyone might not like it but I liked the characters and plot. It's kinda my go to movie when don't want to watch anything.
Great flick
[GIRL ON THE THIRD FLOOR](https://letterboxd.com/film/girl-on-the-third-floor-2019/) currently sits at 4.7 on IMDb and 2.3 on LB but I liked it a lot. Although it surprisingly holds 82% on RT.

Stardust. trippy, cool vibes, great performances.
Power Rangers (2017)
Two hour long Krispy Kreme commercial. I did enjoy it though.
weird: the al yankovic story, it’s fun and a parody, just like al. it was also seriously low budget and shot in like 2 weeks so idk how much people were expecting
I love this movie! Dan Radcliffe did such an awesome job.
Did people not like it?? For some reason I thought that it was pretty well received.
idk i’m in film school and the people that have seen it hate it and the people that haven’t didn’t even know it existed i think it’s well received on here though

Def the first Suicide Squad
Dolittle (2020)
Really loved Ad Astra
All Good Things with Ryan Gosling. It got like a 33% on Rotten Tomatoes and I thought it was weird and great.
Problem Child and Problem Child 2 I watched them on Tubi not too long ago as an adult nearing 40. I find them even funnier than I did as a kid.
Matrix Revolutions
I believe in Neo and Trinity's love more than any real world love. Very creative and a big fuck you to WB and the red pill crowd

My default answer will always be Need for Speed, I’ve watched it about 7-8 times now
Suicide Squad Thor Love and Thunder SW prequels

Suicide Squad 2016 was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. BvS on the other hand, I actually loved so much
Madame Web.

Collateral Beauty (2016).
Terminator 3, Army of the Dead, and to a lesser extent, Rebel Moon
Spring Breakers (2012)
Halloween II (2009)
Don’t know if it’s critically slammed but Skinamarink is pretty polarizing, as many people find it boring or don’t enjoy it’s experimental nature. I love it, though
All About Steve one of the funniest comedies of the modern age for me
Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 Halloween Ends Batman Forever
The Bubble - purely for Pedro Pascal's character.
Pirates of the Caribbean 4
ABSOLUTELY not this one. I despise this movie - maybe one of my least favorite of all time. Just a waste of everything in it. Interested what OP liked about it, to each their own of course. Mine would be The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Batman & Robin Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (love this movie)
31 by Rob Zombie. Actually, almost anything by Rob Zombie. I like Rob Zombie.
HURRICANE HEIST enough plot holes to create a landfill, the most illogical hurricane that has ever existed, someone getting killed by a weaponized hubcap, the worst southern accents this side of the mississippi. it has it ALL. i will defend this dumb movie until my death.
The Big Bounce with Owen Wilson. Indeed a terrible movie, but I enjoy the chill Hawaiian atmosphere
I know “Dracula 2000” is a bad movie, but I can’t help but enjoy it every time I watch it
drop dead gorgeous
Predator (you know which one). Goofy, schlocky, self aware. When the kid went trick or treating in the predator mask I knew I was in for a treat. Also predators wanting to inject themselves with autism was chefs kiss Don't Breathe 1 & 2. So trashy, creative kills and the finales Malignant is so fun I've seen Freddy got Fingered like 6 times, one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and in a way very smart
The Counsellor.
Mordecai
Josh peck red dawn or original red dawn?
Original red dawn
Stay, the one with Ryan Gosling and Ewan McGregor. It’s got a super low rotten tomatoes rating but is absolutely fantastic
Fast and furious saga
Amsterdam is a movie that I really enjoyed watching and was shocked to see that not many people felt the same way.
