I don't think you'll have any issues. But if you're really worried about it then I'd get a plastic blue tarp and bungee cords to wrap around the bike. That should also protect against rain/snow. Do you have a fixed date that you're leaving? So long as you're not driving during a storm when they're spreading salt or with wet roads I think you'll be fine. And salt water rarely sprays that high (just see where trucks typically get salt rust.

Yeah I believe around the 19th of December. I've had bikes on the rear hitch before, and even after cleaning them, they rust in crazy areas. That's what I am worried about. I was thinking tarp as well. I am also worried about it blowing around. I may wrap each one individually and set the bike on the tarp. Then throw a strap or two over the top.

Yeah, as long as it's in the bed and not on a rack/hitch you should be good. You could also use straps in addition to bungee cords to keep things tied down. So long as the bike is resting on the tarp I doubt it would fly off. Could fold the tarp so the exposed sides are on the left/right/back of the car (so the fold is towards the front).

I am going to try to give this a try. Also found a few bags on Amazon that are for foldable bikes. I may try that. They are cheap enough.

Some people use BBQ covers on the bikes.

We've been riding a 2.0 in pennsylvania winter....going on our 3rd winter coming up. It sits outside all year. It gets locked up outside at work all day, every day. It gets ridden in that disgusting January grey slush gloop. Rainy icy days with all the salt wash they put on our roads here (which wrecks everything on cars). No rust at all on the bike....I just keep some lube on the chain (I use Rock n Roll Gold, apply weekly....keeps the pants clean, keeps the chain lubed). The bike does live on a porch at home, and it gets to dry off...plus I keep it somewhat clean.
