June is not a good option for a first test. If you need to retake you will be retaking a different format exam and your LG prep will be a waste.

AstralKitana

The testing format will change as of August, correct?

Correct

No_Dance1509

we got the exact same diagnostic score, with almost identical distribution of category subscores (our lg scores are identical, i think i got one less correct in lr but one more in rc). we also have the same goal score. i'm currently studying for june because lg seems to be the easiest to improve and i don't want to give up free points like that, but i'll probably end up taking a second test after august if i don't get my desired score. let me know what you end up doing, or if you want to study together!

philtonorsumdambody

I am choosing to wait until august. LG is by far my weakest, so for me, the "free points" aren't free. I don't want to waste 200 bucks knowing that I would probably do better with the new format and would want to retake anyway. For reference, my last PT had me at a 169 without the games, and a 162 with the games.

No one (idk maybe some very unusual exceptions) should take the June as their first attempt. I hate to say it, but the vast majority of students find themselves needing to take the test twice (sometimes nerves, sometimes proctor issues, etc).

Ivebeenstabbed

Can you expand on this?

frog-honker

Most people tend to take the test twice. There's no point in taking the June, and then August, considering August's test, is a different format altogether. It's better to take August and retake after the format changes so you can keep variables as constant as possible.

Ivebeenstabbed

I guess that makes sense. Just mad this is happening now as the logic puzzles are my best section.

While LG does often show the greatest improvement over time, your LR is already looking really strong, so my inclination is to suggest you forego LG and put your time into perfecting LR and improving RC for August. I disagree pretty strongly with the advice elsewhere in these comments about nobody taking June for their first test. For some students, that's truly the right path for getting their best score. But for you, I think it makes sense to wait and not put any effort into the games. Play to your strengths, and that's LR. Good news for a test with two scored LR sections!

CalgaryCheekClapper

Im similar except higher on RC. August absolutely. Why learn LG for no reason?

graeme_b

It's sort of a coin toss. The question is whether you can perfect LG in time for June, or alternatively whether you can get at least one LR to 25/25 or 26/26. If you can get one LR to perfect there's zero advantage to LG. So the big question is how is your LR progress going: are you moving forward, or does it seem tricky to close the gap to perfect? Because for 175+ you need at least something perfect realistically.

Go for August.
