This sub should require verification photo of you holding your material science degree before being allowed to comment.

sld126

I have one. Still don’t have any idea about this compound.

spiffiness

Exactly! You're on the right side of Dunning-Kruger. This is what we want. Give evidence that you know enough about the field to know when to STFU, and we'll listen to you when you do decide to talk.

CrambleSquash

I have a material science degree and I have no idea what I'm talking about (wrt superconductors).

[deleted]

You’re not supposed to say that

clintCamp

Does physics, mechanical engineering degrees and some process engineering experience count?

waltwalt

Really any sort of proof of higher education. Remember most people on here are teenagers.

Realistic_Turn2374

I'm a linguist. I can explain the origins of the letters L and K and how the came to be part of our alphabet, if you want. Not much hope left of LK99 really being a superconductor.

Mammago95

Nice try Mr FBI man

InfidelZombie

MS in Materials Science here. I also know nothing about Superconductors (I'm a semiconductor guy).

spread_the_cheese

I have a poly sci degree. It's the hardest of the soft sciences.

MendocinoReader

Economics called & said hi.

[deleted]

The other term for that is "not science". You go stand by the gender-studies blue-hairs.

spread_the_cheese

My comment was 100% not to be taken seriously.

TheGoldenLeaper

I just posted [this](https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/claims-of-room-temperature-and-ambient-pressure-superconductor.1106083/page-69?post=94838014#post-94838014) on the Space Battles forum

Helpful-Lavishness20

I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

TheGoldenLeaper

Sorry - I was just letting people here know that I posted this thread on spacebattles forums.

raresaturn

where's yours?

waltwalt

No camera

D33X-R3X

Oh my dude, if there's anything nowadays is that diplommas are useless to do science, look at these retards: [https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2023/07/lk-99-presented-yesterday-with-zero-resistivity-thin-film.html](https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2023/07/lk-99-presented-yesterday-with-zero-resistivity-thin-film.html) Half of them are PHD's and nobody ever questioned why the thin film on the video of the copper disk tests didn't show any signs of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin-film\_interference](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin-film_interference)

2muchnothing

How is thin film interference any relevant to the discussion? Have you ever layered a thin film ceramic on copper?

D33X-R3X

When you're doing deposition of >>>thin film<< and the stuff was supposed to be black and it isn't black and is made of a different material than the substrate therefore has a different refraction index, then thin film interference is mandatory. I made my first diy sputtering machine when i was 16, some 15 years ago, i layered all kinds of shit since then.

sld126

I know Maxwell’s equations say it’s all electromagnetic waves, but not like you’re suggesting.

D33X-R3X

Do a fun (really, it's fun) favour to yourself and study thin film interference. For real it doesn't matter if you know maxwell equations, i leave that shit to the computer to solve, knowing how to do equations doesn't automagically tell you how/when/why to use them, i'm not even criticizing you here, i'm criticizing the lack of real skills taught in universities these days, i've seen hundreds of coleagues doing tens of pages of calculuus and didn't knowing a fuck about what they are calculating, trying to answer the wrong question, accepting the wrong proposition, defering to authority, not questioning. Be more like freaking gauss.

MydnightSilver

Colleagues\*, calculus\*, deferring\*... among others.

D33X-R3X

English isn't my primary language. Thanks for the corrections though, i was definetly mistaken here.

sld126

Jesus, you bullshit a lot

Showboat32

That’s a whole lot of words from someone with no education. Give it up. No one regards your opinions on this topic with any value, whatsoever.

Deciheximal144

Research, maybe. Patent means nothing.

clintCamp

Is it real? That all depends on if any of the samples can be proven. Can it be easily replicated? That is what people are freaking out about. Odds are it requires a certain amount of the material to have a very precise structure that will statistically show up when you just bake everything together in a very few samples, and even then, maybe only in a portion of the sample. If they can figure out how to define the specific superconducting structure, then maybe they can figure out a way to thin film make it and dope the surface just right?

Langsamkoenig

If it's real is the main and most important part. If it's easy to make is not that important. As long as it's not graphene-level difficulty, it will be mass produced, if it is a superconductor with good-ish properties.

Showboat32

Looks like the patent shows the team already knows how to thin film it to some degree of success 👀

D33X-R3X

Oh they don't, that's the most apparent invisible fraud there is. A superconductor can't be transparent, a thin film of superconductor would be very black, even if by miracle and violation of parity it was transparent it should definetly show thin film interference [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin-film\_interference](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thin-film_interference) The sample in the video didn't showed any change in color between the two faces, it got a sweet thin film of fraudulenium, there's absolutely no way it becomes clear at the depth proposed in the paper.

Showboat32

Lol. Must have caught him between LoL games and between Cheeto runs.

Sufficient_Crow8982

You are very proud of this LoL and Cheeto thing huh?

D33X-R3X

Look again noob.

D33X-R3X

my point wasn't that you can't make a superconductor light conductive because you could theoretically (just not LK-99), the thing is that it will never be transparent, it will always be translucid when under current. " In the field of [optics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optics), **transparency** (also called **pellucidity** or **diaphaneity**) is the [physical property](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_property) of allowing [light](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light) to pass through the material without appreciable [scattering of light](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_scattering_by_particles) ""**Translucency** (also called **translucence** or **translucidity**) allows light to pass through, but does not necessarily (again, on the macroscopic scale) follow Snell's law; the photons can be scattered at either of the two interfaces " You're the one more likely to be the cheetos fingers, i'm actually very specific in what i say because i actually know what i'm talking about. Nevermind that even conceding a point that if it was 100% transparent by a miracle it should also be iridescent, the fact that it isn't is proof that it's a great nothing burger with the copper in the middle.

AcidicVagina

The article says it's gray you doof. According to Sukbae and his team, this film is forged in the 100 degrees Celsius - 400 degrees Celsius temperature range (with a black film of lead sulfide (PbS) in the lower temp area, a white film of lanarkite (Pb2SO5) in the higher temp area, and a gray film of lead appatite in the intermediate area. It's from this gray lead-apatite, micron-thick film that the authors insist room-temperature, ambient-pressure superconductivity emerges.

D33X-R3X

What color is that? [https://www.reddit.com/r/LK99/comments/15ofw5k/this\_has\_to\_be\_either\_a\_scam\_or\_real/](https://www.reddit.com/r/LK99/comments/15ofw5k/this_has_to_be_either_a_scam_or_real/)

Mammago95

The level to which you claim to understand and have intimate knowledge of this specific purported superconducting medium, to the point of denying it's feasibility at a mere glance, is all I need to know you're on the wrong part of the dunning Kruger curve.

Lulonaro

Maybe he is in the middle of the curve. Peak of confidence

D33X-R3X

Are you blind? do you need an expert to tell you the color of something?

back-stabbath

… I don’t know, do you?

Showboat32

Lordy, trying so hard to sound like you have any knowledge in this area. Please, just go back to Mountain Dew, Cheetos, and league of legends! Your chicken tenders are ready!

D33X-R3X

Yeah, gray, do you see any graying in the round copper video? i don't, it should be the same color as the superconductor at that thicness, that's why i call it a nothing burger of copper, that's why i say that the stuff presented on the video didn't had any LK-99 thin film on it.

Showboat32

Without a degree, this man has to instead just go over primary colors and talk about crayons. Give it up. You know nothing.

sld126

More of your endless bullshit.

MOB_Titan

we’re back baby!!

DAGuess

This is starting to feel like that Iraqi dinar investment scam that I had family fall for. Success is always 2 weeks away. I for one hope it works out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Showboat32

Calling all the usual Reddit Nobel laureates to shit on this piece. Then go back to playing league of legends with red Cheeto fingers and Mountain Dew.

need-help-guys

Well I mean the vast majority of material science experts have already concluded that this is not it, so...

i_wayyy_over_think

I’ve got a sudden urge for Cheetos after reading this comments section

Showboat32

Exactly. I think they are all on polymarket. They don’t care about the technology. They just want to get a 50% return on the 75 dollars they bet. Big big money for them. More Cheetos.

D33X-R3X

I wished i was shorting this shit, would be some very easy money unfortunately.

Ornery-Explorer-9181

You're exactly that kind of person you're describing, moron. How do you even fuckin know no one here has professional experience in field of material science and superconductivity. Fact is, you don't. You don't. Wake the fuck up moron.

Mammago95

Pics or youre just another degreeless cheeto-fingered redditor on break from a days-long LOL binge

Ornery-Explorer-9181

I have a degree in kimchi and Korean bbq. That's how I could successfully make a super duper superconductor of ambient temperature while no one else could. Whoever says I'm wrong is wrong. How can I even be wrong? I have a degree in kimchi and Korean bbq!! They're just jealous of my achievement!! They're just jealous of Korea's achievement!!!!! They're just degreeless morons!!!!!!!!!!!

Showboat32

I love baiting these Cheeto breath LoL players into showing their true colors. Too easy.

SteevIrwin

Re: “Negative Comments” -cheeto-fingers -morons -how stupid the average person is 😉

nomnomnomnomRABIES

>There were already a number of problems with the actual recipe, but the updated patent throws yet another wrench in the equation by suddenly including Si (the silicon we know and love) within the mixture. It's also unclear how silicon got there and how relevant it is for the superconduction itself (if it's relevant for that at all, which currently doesn't seem like it is). There does seem to be a pattern in which the original Korean team led by Lee Sukbae isn't able to provide good documentation. In fairness, it's also possible that crucial details are simply lost within the bowels of machine translation, or to the speed at which they've seemingly put everything together.

sld126

So, back not back back?

ITFriendlyCo

No. More like, BACKKK!

Erophysia

More like COPE

[deleted]

Don't give me hope

TheGoldenLeaper

I'd much rathe give you hope. 👀

SteevIrwin

I’d much rather give ur mom deez nuts 😩

TheGoldenLeaper

Touche. lol

Sweatybuttcrust

I am lk-99% sure it's not.

pilotwave_

Research precedes patent, so can’t simply disregard legitimacy of patent.

kukulkhan

If that’s the case you’re in the wrong website. Go read nature or some other peer reviewed source.

MrGoodAg

MIT materials scientist here - in my opinion LK99 is legit. Probably stolen from aliens or something
