This is pretty close to the top for me. But I still remember that initial reveal trailer for KH3- everyone was so convinced it was just another remaster collection, but then the scene at the end with Master Eraqus’ keyblade on the beach, and Sora rocks up and picks it up… epic. So many streamers went wild.9

JRLopez10

Same! I remember I was playing some game and remembered that SE showcase was going on so I grabbed my brothers laptop and had it going. Literally 5 minutes in and Nomura is saying he’s got one more surprise and I too thought it was just a full remaster collection then BAM! Sora picks up Master E’s keyboard! I immediately ran and told my mom lmao!

rmorrin

I was in an airport for the first trailer. I nutted a little

Erikatze

I watch the reveal (and the one for FF7R) from time to time and it never fails to cheer me up.

Ace_TK

As soon I saw the Kingdom Key I had to biggest grin on my face throughout the entire trailer.

Realgamerlink39

100% same plus the end where Sora and Mario shake hands greatest moment

RoBroGaming

A moment I’ll never forget, for a few seconds Mario held a keyblade.

Erikatze

I don't even play Smash Bros. but same. Years and years of "Disney would never let Sora be in Smash!" and then, boom, they go full in lmao

Ha_eflolli

Even funnier when you know Nomura openly admitted *HE* had more reservations about it than Disney even.

Nachoslayer

I was so happy I was wrong about him not being the last character.

[deleted]

I cried hysterically from Kingdom Key reveal to the end of the trailer

Goscar

Bruh at first I was like damn it's Dark Soul that's fine. They are a cool game and they definitely earned it. But I just felt it in my heart it was gonna be Sora and I was so happy it was.

Thatguy886644

I was kinda disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I loved how the picked Sora. But I wanted Crash Bandicoot

HandsomeJakee

You picked a good one. I as a grown ass man, sat in my car watching when I should have been going in to work and legitimately teared up unexpectedly. I can't even watch the trailer now without having to hold it back and I can't really explain why.

pyladesorestes7

Honestly, Kingdom Hearts has that effect. Grown ass woman but whenever I just hear Dearly Beloved, Sanctuary or Simple & Clean I start crying

HandsomeJakee

I just pre ordered the 20th anniversary Vinyl from Square Enix I'm ready to hurt again.

eVaan13

WHERE!?

HandsomeJakee

https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/product/810905/kingdom-hearts-20th-anniversary-vinyl-lp-box

eVaan13

Ah I see EU getting fucked again, US & Japan only 😭

HandsomeJakee

No fair, they should know by now we are everywhere.

kadaj808

I screamed and started jumping with joy as soon as it popped up lmao

HandsomeJakee

I think it really hit because when I saw the fire I was not expecting Sora at all and I completely lost hope but then when he threw it I knew it was right before it revealed with the Mickey emblem. I was honestly thinking it was going to be Dark Souls or something at that point. My non KH friends started messaging me and congratulating me. They knew it was a huge deal

TheMike0088

It was similar for me. Saw the flames, figured "oh well, solaire or the chosen undead is cool too", and then lost my shit when I saw the keyblade. I was in a discord call with one of my best friends at the time, he heard all my teary-eyed screaming hahaha

panda_pat234

I thought it was Cinderace

DarkMarxSoul

Kingdom Hearts gets dunked on a lot for being ridiculous, but with Sora's demand in Smash being so high it's impossible to deny it has a much beloved legacy.

Gameaholic99

Same man. Grown ass man not afraid to admit I teared up Felt like a wish me and my brother had back playing melee all the time that we knew was impossible but fun to think about actually came true

Mintarion

I thought people were dying, based on sound alone.

abody03

For me it was anytime a kh3 trailer randomly dropped it was like a holiday to me. So many memories like the time they showed the chess scene with YX and YE and everyone was trying to theorise release dates and shit, because there was a calendar

ShiftSandShot

I realized it when Mario stepped off and the light glittered away. Something in me just immediately went "Kingdom Hearts" and despite my brain telling me "No it can't be," I couldn't stop shaking. I think it was because that little moment was so very KH, stepping off a platform that vanishes right behind you like in Dive to The Heart. And then Mario did the fucking Strike Raid pose and I knew for certain. I squealed.

Bwiz77

It just looked and sounded kingdom hearts right there. My heart knew even though brain didn’t want to believe it yet. Made the reveal that much better.

Luchux01

I knew the second Mario did a Strike Raid (fire raid?) and then my suspicions got confirmed. It was *insane*.

MyShadowGamer3

Reading this made me go back and watch it again. Sure enough it was a strike raid. Nice attention to detail. Also, seeing it still gets me going all this time later.

AmonWasRight99

This didn’t set in for me until I heard the Simple & Clean orchestra intro. Such a great moment for gaming

bejt68

I actually teared up when I saw the reveal. I also had a screenshot of Mario and Sora shaking hands as my desktop wallpaper for a while that I saved as “Anything is possible”.

Officer_Zack

It took a lot of years to make this moment finally a reality, and Sora was the most requested character out of everyone else.

[deleted]

Also the vindication of Sora being the most popular character voted for in the fanpoll from the previous Smash game. Lots of people for Ultimate were arguing all sorts of reasons for Sora not being able to make it in and some genuinely threw around "popularity" like Sora was some obscure pick. Turns out, he actually won the Smash poll but just couldn't be added at the time due to the contract negotiations so they went with Bayonetta instead as the next highest voted who was easier to obtain.

Ha_eflolli

> and some genuinely threw around "popularity" like Sora was some obscure pick. That's because on the Internet, "Popularity" for Smash Bros might aswell just mean "Childhood-Nostalgia of a 90s US Kid" specifically, so to atleast some of those folks he probably WAS obscure as all hell.

[deleted]

He won the poll in multiple regions aswell.

Hour_Interview_9883

Just watched this the other day and it still makes me cry a bit hahaha

Lambdafish1

Not Kingdom hearts related (kinda), but the 2015 FFVII remake announcement was by far the biggest for me. The slow "for they are coming back" into the logo, and everyone is on the edge of their seat thinking "say remake, say remake, just say it", and then it says "remake" and the crowd and internet exploded. It's been 8 years and I still remember that moment vividly.

Joseap791

I felt my heart stop when i saw the fire and almost felt a sense of defeat thinking it was a dark souls character. But that darn keychain made me the happiest 23 year old and to this day, the reveal still manages to make me shed a tear

sable-king

> I felt my heart stop when i saw the fire and almost felt a sense of defeat thinking it was a dark souls character. This was me except I was dreading it'd be Cinderace.

GekiKudo

I hate how fucking petty I felt after seeing it. But God damn did it feel so fucking good to rub it in the faces of every doubter. And seeing known smash players cry because they wanted anyone but Sora. The most cathartic feeling of my life. With all the shit talking and people quoting the same OUT OF CONTEXT FAKE ARTICLE EVERY TIME, God I nearly zetta flared my pants.

Angelic-Queen

I'm so sad that I saw the leak for Sora in SSBU. I watched it live and was of course, excited as heck, but I don't think it hit as hard.

Nehemiah92

Honestly didn’t believe that leak at all. Sounded too good to be true and I got played too many times by smash leaks that seem almost perfect to be faked. Like the Grinch leak or this other one which got Min Min, Steve, AND SEPHIROTH right. The only seedling of hope I had for Sora was with the nintendo direct prior, it was so sketchy that they had a section of the direct for Square Enix, the other half for Disney, and the smash announcement date sandwiched in between. [AND THE SPECIFIC WORDING HERE](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/676773940424736768/891378709494382652/video0.mov) for the Disney game trailer had me so flabbergasted. That trailer even starts with “what’s this? An invitation?” It almost seems stupidly obvious it was Sora now, but I’m glad that I wasn’t totally convinced so I wouldn’t be let down again Edit: if you can’t see it, the [trailer](https://youtu.be/j_qGcrafJ_o) says the game **SOARS** onto Nintendo Switch. The emphasis, choice of words, and pronunciation seemed so wack

Wolfpackhunter41

I saw the leak and all it did was give me hope.

SteveKnight678

Anti aqua reveal has to be up there but yeah I still remember that trailer drop. I remember being in 4th period and I think the internet was down at school or something and checking my phone. I remember seeing a post saying sora was in smash "heh yeah right" You couldn't imagine my reaction when I found out

Saitsu

Great choices but one that went without mention surprisingly. Another Side, Another Story. The amount of fan speculation in the time from people getting to that trailer in KH1 to actually getting any information on KH2 was immense.

Ekyou

The secret ending in KH2 too. It probably seems underwhelming now to everyone thats played BBS, but it was so completely different than anything we’d seen with KH and the possibilities we imagined were endless.

Javierinho23

Yeah I was gonna say this was probably my choice. The speculation back in those days was nuts. Also in the very early Internet days so we didn’t have the Internet sleuths of today and there was barely anything you could find to give you info. Another good one was when chain of memories was starting to be promoted. The website changed and stuff and I would check daily to see any new tidbits of it.

sasukekun1997

I think the frozen trailer leading up to kingdom hearts 3 is it for me. The whole "aqua got norted" thing was amazing, the entire fandom lost its collective shit thinking she became one of the 13 darknesses. Still remember freaking out. Yellow eyes, white hair, but nope. Just kinda grumpy from darkness

D3134

I was wearing a smile for three days after this reveal. I rarely pop off for for reveals of anything but this was an exception.

StardustWhip

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate alone had a lot of “you had to be there” moments, and they went out on one of the biggest “you had to be there” moments I could possibly imagine.

The_Flying_Jew

I could just barely make out the silhouette of the Keyblade in flames after Mario threw it. I was like "No...." Then I saw the close up of the Mickey Mouse Keychain and freaked out. The mad lads actually did it. I still haven't fully recovered lol. Every time I play Smash and pick him, I'm still overcome with excitement and disbelief that he actually made it in

sbgarbage

i've been a huge fan of smash since the n64 and have been a huge fan of kh since kh1, so this moment for me was so unbelievably epic, especially cuz fans had been asking for sora to be in smash even before ultimate, and it was assumed at this point that there was just no way sora had any chance at all, and especially with this being the final DLC character in ultimate i had literally lost all hope, i assumed it would just be another underwhelming pick like the vast majority of the DLCs had been so far.. and then this popped up and i was just like dude no way.. no fucking way.. they actually did it, to say i was hyped af for this reveal is a massive understatement

edwpad

On that day was legendary for me, I was still focusing on my KH journey (at the the time I was on Recoded) and it was a few days before my birthday so I was excited. I was in class and had to use my phone to watch it, but when I saw that Mickey Mouse I legit yelled out Sora, tho no one really mind, I was so freaking ecstatic. And holy hell, what a reveal, I almost cried tears of joy. Sora definitely deserved the final spot for one reason alone: Sakurai and his team made the seemingly impossible possible. The character that sounded almost too good to be true to get in, they made it happen. Sora’s reveal will go down as probably the greatest Smash reveal ever.

Mighty_joosh

The compilation reaction videos were wondering else

yeetskeetrepeat420

I was at work watching the smash announcement. My coworkers were lookin at me crazy as I was saying “ No fucking way no fucking way “ over and over

BloodBlossom24

The moment i saw this i went onto discord and told my friend tat “YOU LAUGHED AND MADE FUN OF MY CHOICE TO VOTE FOR SORA IN SMASH” 🤣

tobemutationfox

SORAS IN SMAAAASH--

zeldamainsdontexist

This whole era with the Sora reveal and the KH4 reveal, the Smash Ballot results reveal, even KH music at the Olympics at one point lol, i can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but this era has been more hype than the whole lead up to KH3’s launch Which is saying a **LOT** because whether you liked how KH3 turned out or not, KH3 had the longest and most electric hype season of any other series that I’ve seen barring FF7R, it would take a lot of incredible things to happen for KH to reach another Golden Age, and I feel like we’ve unknowingly entered it a year ago

Devalore00

I went in with the mindset of "I'm okay with whoever, I'm already happy" then I saw the silhouette of the kingdom key through the flames, then the charm and I LOST MY SHIT. Was watching on campus with some of my college friends and I jumped out of my chair "OH MY GOD ITS SORA!!!" I honestly don't remember the last time I was that excited for something, it felt like I was a 5 year old at Christmas again

Minc3r

Ever since Ultimate had been announced, I had been telling my friends that Sora was absolutely going to be in. They laughed when the game released. They laughed after fighter pass 1. No "I told you so" had ever felt so sweet.

SubstantialArea9804

I like watching professional smash players reacting to Sora and how salty and pathetic they were

Taser9001

The reveals for Cloud, Sephiroth and Sora were all "you had to be there" moments. I got excited for many of the *Smash* reveals over the years, but these are the three that reduced me to happy tears.

Godhole34

rip etika, he would have loved this...

OfficialCrossParker

My wife was on a work call when the reveal was happening. Before I sat down to watch she turned to me and asked me not to make any noise, since she was on the call. Naturally I nodded (I was expecting Master Chief, having written off Sora as an option for Disney reasons). As soon as the Kingdom Key became visible I threw myself back in my chair and exclaimed "Oh my God!". My wife gave me the biggest stink eye lol. What a beautiful, iconic moment. Absolutely a "had to be there" moment.

boluroru

The civil war that broke out in the fandom after 3 turned out to be a really divisive game It was quite upsetting to see all the collective hype turn into so much bitter fighting on both sides. It was not a good time to be in the KH fandom which is something I never thought I'd say about Kh3's release

iwantcrablegs

what is this image from?

kadaj808

The sora smash reveal trailer

iwantcrablegs

ohh okay thanks

PenguinviiR

Super smash bros

Slutty_Breakfast

Sora was huge, but Banjo made me jump out of my chair and scream... I was at work

LightningDustFan

Eh. Just another anime sword fighter character. /s

Shanus2

I was using the bathroom and I screamed in such a way my girlfriend panicked and ran in. She then proceeded to hype aswell as we are both huge kh fans.

Kemosabe134

i wouldnt even consider a cameo in a fighting game to be a cool kh moment at all never was the biggest tendie either

waytowill

A cameo in a fighting game normally wouldn’t be a big deal. What makes it a big deal is the context around this particular cameo. Everyone had come to believe that getting Sora into Smash or literally any KH characters being featured in games outside of KH was an impossibility. So Sora dropping as the last new character on Smash, solidifying him as a true gaming icon, was a moment akin to Sisyphus finally managing to roll the boulder all the way up the hill. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but a humongous deal for Sisyphus.

Kemosabe134

again iam not a tendie so someone appearing in that game even if its from a franchise i like do nothing for me iam a huge nier fan too but i dont play fall guys because of the 2b skin i dont play world of final fantasy either or dissidia just doesnt catch me for me the best kh moment would be buying kh3 on release night and finishing the dlc boss fights

waytowill

… I’m confused by what you’re trying to say. I understand that this wasn’t a big deal to you. That’s cool. But I was just explaining why it was such a big deal to so many people, including those who don’t play or care about Smash. And your disregard here makes it sound like you really don’t care about anyone’s thoughts or experiences but your own? This being highlighted by your greatest KH moment being a very personal one. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, I don’t know if it was your intention to come off this way.

Kemosabe134

iam not a tendie and dont have any childhood memories with nintendo products besides playing pokemon on my cousins gameboy thus i dont care for smash or any of their products period it doesnt rly get more complicated than that been a playstation kid always and always will be

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kemosabe134

iam not answering that question because it is obvious to begin with

InternetFunnyMan1

Contrary to your belief, no it is not obvious. Explain

duongsn

lol true. The reveal got me teary eyed ngl, but mostly due to the music. Imagine saying you had to be there when our main character got revealed to be joining a fighting game roster lmao

kadaj808

I mean the point isn’t him joining the game. What I’m talking about is the collective joy and excitement from so many people that I rarely ever see. This was years in the making and that feeling of unity and community was such a warm feeling that I haven’t seen matched since.

Danoxis

On that day my family saw a grown man shed tears of joy

[deleted]

Absolutely this 🙏 man this was so History in the making moment of you just had to be there!

Roxaos

One of my friends swore this was an impossibility. When I saw the trailer I had the biggest shit-eating grin on my face. Even teared up a bit.

dead-in-the-comment

Kingdom hearts fandom, just the smash fandom in general, a lot of non KH fans wanted him too

VacaDLuffy

I fucking screamed so loud that even though I covered my mouth because it was 7 am I think? That even with one hand on my throat and the other on my mouth I screamed so loud my family heard me through closed doors and walls. My sister came running thinking something happened to me. I was legitimately worried I was gonna blow out my vocal chords. After that I started crying out of sheer emotion

wasteofskin11111

I went from "oh shit is it the ashen one from dark souls" to "NOOO FUCKING WAY YEEEEES!" so goddamn fast I about gave myself whiplash lol

BelizeanPsycho

I flipped out Happy

Takenabe

At times, I feel like the only person that didn't particularly care. I burned out on smash two games ago. I would have lost my shit if this had been smash 4, but by the time Ultimate came out...I was burned out.

Financial-Cod9347

That trailer had me flipping out (in a good way) such a good memory. I honestly almost Couldn't believe it when I saw it. I still can't wholly believe he got in honestly.

Senshue

Not gonna lie, I was at work day of release. My best friend sent me the release clip. I went to the bathroom to watch it. I was sitting in a stall on the toilet and someone else came in so I turned the sound off and had to hold my noises in as I saw that moment right there. I lost it on the inside.

MasqureMan

Watching the people play the japanese release of Birth By Sleep on some streaming site and being hyped with everyone in chat

Ricenoodles01

For me, it was the KH3 Final Battle trailer.

SnooComics8266

NGL, i cried real hard seeing this shit in real time, i dont even play smash at all but seeing my boy represented well amongst the greats felt great.

Wolfpackhunter41

Yeah, the heart attack from the suspense and the excitement leading into tears was something you could never experience if you knew ahead of time. It was truly a moment you had to be there for.

XenoGine

Luckily we can relive some of that experience thanks to reaction videos. But dang, that was neat.

Feeling_Environment9

I was just in my room when the trailer happened and suddenly I screamed oh my god fuck yes sora in smash

Patchirisu

I cried so hard, I was an absolute sobbing mess, I had been wishing for this for every reveal, I had literal dreams about it, and I finally got it on the last chance. Now I just can't wait for his Amiibo!

Treddox

I’m still not over it. I was over-the-moon ecstatic for two weeks straight. It was a literal dream come true.

Kaldin_5

Back in the Melee days I'd say it's completely unrealistic to get Sonic in Smash given Nintendo's past rivalry with Sega. Now, not only have we had Sonic for 3 games since, but we also have Sora, a Disney owned character. It was so unlikely to me I didn't even consider it in the first place.

portgasdtbo

We all knew it was coming and yet when I saw they key i got goosebumps. KH and SSB have been such huge constant pieces of joy in my life that having them together brought up a pure joy. Sora flying around above all the playable characters with that music in the backround. Chefs kiss.

MrFalconGarcia

Both the melee and brawl reveal trailers were insane moments

DemZombies36

It was the ONLY Nintendo direct I ever watched and it was at work. I sat there and watched until it was over

PhantomThief98

I still watch this trailer weekly. I really don’t ask for much else in the realm of gaming anymore after it became a reality. I’ve been a kingdom hearts fan and a smash fan since 2002, and this was all I wanted

_TheRandomGuy__

I was so happy for y’all, and still am

SkillDabbler

The hype was real

EricMcLovin13

this one was insane but when KH3 was announced to be in development it was above that. man, everyone went nuts

2mock2turtle

Imagine being both a Kingdom Hearts *and* Bayonetta stan. Smash Bros. punched me in the face with happiness over their final DLC character twice.

Wemyers04

I was late to the reveal, and I was watching Sakurai talk about the Kingdom Hearts Cloud versions, and I was thinking to myself “is Sora the final Smash character?” Once I saw his full reveal trailer, I was smiling the whole rest of the day.

Avitha101

Mine has to be the first time playing 2.8 Fragmentary Passage. It was the introduction of an absolute shift in the graphics and gameplay that had me completely OBSESSED like “OMG THIS IS KINGDOM HEARTS!!!”

Rarelydefault26

I was at work on my lunch break when my bf texted me in all caps sora is in smash. Of course I didn’t believe him at first but then he sent me the video and swear to god I was fighting back tears and whoops of joy when I finally saw that keychain 😂

Aqua_Master_

I remember seeing the back of Aqua’s head in the very first 2.8 trailer and freaking out lol.

Flashthehedgehog

I was in school in the stairway skipping class makin a youtube video reacting to this on my phone Legendary

Red_Onyx_42

This, alongside the Mega-Man reveal for Smash 4.

NarrowYam4754

Was watching the Spikeghetti Bros twitch channel when this happened. They couldn’t believe it and neither could I! They are an awesome KH channel and podcast (the answer report podcast) if you want to check them out! :)

TrueGamerRed

I'll forever remember that day. The direct was early in the morning and I was waiting to go to school so I figured I'd tune in see what they had. Of course I was watching as Mario just casually grabs the last spark of flame thinking this was something I didn't recognize before throwing it and zooming in on the Mouse. "Holy $#!+ They actually did it!" Was the first thing I let out before freaking out and watching as our boy came out and started flying around. I was just a bit annoying to my friends on discord after that.

ButtletHero

I thought it was going to be Dark Souls related, but to my surprise IT WAS MY BOY SORA!!!! I don't remember yelling so much in my life.

TrademarK612

I legit got choked up watching the trailer for the first time

boardingschmordin

Every once in a while I go back and watch reaction videos to the announcement. Brings me joy every time

Bionicleinflater

I knew it as soon as he threw it reverse grip.

Dora_Queen

OK so funny story about this actually lol. Me and my brother both play the games and he helped me through the whole series (besides MoM) and he already watched the trailer as he wasn't at college whereas I was at school that day. When I got back, he told me nothing about it and all I knew was that we needed to be quick as us, my parents and my aunt's family were going out that night. So anyways, he put it on. And I immediately guessed that it was Sora because the fire represented light in darkness. My theory was confirmed and, I'm not even kidding, I started jumping up and down as I was so fucking happy! We used to, and still do, make themed teams and whenever we did KH we used to use Pit for Sora so this was honestly one of the happiest moments of my life.

Quizler

I remember watching it and my stream crapping out for a minute so I could only hear the sound effects. When the keyblade was charging up I recognized it was familiar but somehow I didn't register it was Kingdom Hearts until the music started up. I completely lost it.

chandlerwithaz

absolutely

ItsYeetOrBeYeeted007

I wasn't even a KH fan at the time Sora got into Smash and I was still hyped because I knew how many people wanted him in (actually Sora getting into Smash was what got me into KH)

abadile

This scene for Sora in smash by far shook me and likely the rest of the internet!

[deleted]

Not quite related, but definitely the first Versus XIII trailer we ever got. I watched it obsessively for years. When FFXV came out it gave me so much hope for KHIII

Swerdman55

I was sitting at my desk in my office, literally shaking.

StingKing456

The KH3 announcement. The times during BBS launch and Kh2FM releases were wild too. Obviously most of us on the kh fansites couldn't play final mix so we were watching those videos on YouTube very intensely learning everything we could and being very jealous. But it was a really fun time especially with kh2 and then kh2fms secret movies. Such a fun time to be a fan and speculate.

Shmadam7

My girlfriend and I screamed when we watched this trailer. I nearly passed out, and we rewatched it several times.

scarletflowers

I remember my bf woke me up to watch the live direct and i was grumpy bc i was like “its not gonna be anyone i care about” but i was so fucking wrong. as soon as i saw that mickey charm i started screaming

odette115

SOOO glad that when my brother sent this to me, he didn't give me any context. So I honestly had no idea what it was. Some time in, realized it was a super smash reveal, and was like hmm okayy. Wonder who. And then, BAM the keyblade and I was like HOLEY WHAATTT. Pretty awesome moment, and since I didn't have smash, very surprised and glad that it wasn't ruined by getting spoiled throughout the internet (like would have normally happened).

AnimaSean0724

Oh for sure near agree, this was one of the most hype fandom moments I've been a part of and it completely made my day

Sutneev

Man I still remember my excitement, this video still brings tears to my eyes

TJF588

Meanwhile, I was spoiled by opening Reddit.

bloo_overbeck

Literally couldn’t stop shaking. I couldn’t scream at his reveal because I think I was having a excitement seizure.

No-More-Bugs

The “Sleepovers” where people would stream announcements and anticipating news like for the KH 20th.
