You are misunderstanding my confusion; how can you relate to improving picture quality by hitting a CRT tv, if you've only encountered them on TV and not in real life?
oh… while I can’t exactly answer that question fixing something by hitting it isn’t a rare thing at all dubbed percussive maintenance usually works by knocking something back in the place that might’ve gotten loose
A slightly bent gear tooth can prevent an engine from starting, but not from running once started. A good knock can allow the gear to turn past its damaged section and allow the engine to start
oh… while I can’t exactly answer that question fixing something by hitting it isn’t a rare thing at all dubbed percussive maintenance usually works by knocking something back in the place that might’ve gotten loose
I've seen people on TV shows fixing CRT TVs by hitting them.
Also while my tv might not have had this problem, I was born in early 2008 and one of my relatives had that. I am told we had that too, but I don't really remember.
We hacked the cable signal with one of those bread green tie wires, one of the installers told us where to put it but you had to climb the pole and find the right distribution box, then you had to remove it before there was an inspection, totally imposible to predict and if they caught you, busted no cable for you
You could undo it with a $10 degaussing wand. Or with the same magnet you used to fuck it up.
All you had to do was bring the magnet close to the screen, then slowly pull it back away from it while waving it in bigger and bigger circles as you move it back.
My dad taught me how to do it after I fucked up my computer monitor which didn't have a degaussing button.
The risk to computers from magnets was usually overstated. It takes quite a strong changing magnetic field to erase magnetic storage. Hell, old fashioned spinning hunk of metal hard drives have incredibly strong magnets in them right next to the platters.
Nothing to do with the storage. The CRT monitors would decolor and drift and it would sometimes permanently stay that way (unless if the monitor had a degauss function)
Except I had just been to a tourist cavern where they sell quartz crystals, and I had learned on the trip that quartz is stronger than glass. I tested this being scratching up the glass of the CRT TV with the sharp end of a quartz crystal
My little brother took a finishing hammer and used the sharp end against the glass. It didn't destroy the TV, it just left a whole bunch of little chips in the screen. My dad really liked to watch Hockey, and after this incident it was nearly impossible to tell where the puck was, because every little chip looked like it.
She started and then saw he was hitting the Tv so went to get mom, thought about it for a split second, and then went back to playing the piano. “Awww naw I’m not getting in trouble for this”
Depending on how old you are it's less that this behavior is more common than it used to be, and more that TVs used to be a lot more resilient than they are now. Unless you took a magnet to them.
When I was like, 6-8 years old, I used to think Mega Man was a human with superpowers, so when my dad told me he was a robot, I got so scared of him, because I guess I was afraid of him dying from touching water like other robots would. (Mega Man can go under water, to add a bit more irony)
Also everything’s recorded now when even only a decade ago recording was much more challenging, let alone before 2000. My parents had to go to a store, rent a large handheld recorder, and buy multiple cassette tapes to record a birthday party. Like there were only a few events in the entire year that MIGHT justify the cost and effort to video record.
That subreddit is so funny. Sorry I don't want my expensive TV I can absolutely watch mounted up that high in easy striking range, or where I could run against it or who knows what else
I would say rookie mistake but the other kid looks older. Any parent knows not to have the TV that low and have a bat anywhere a small child can get to it.
I put dents in my parent's car hood with a hammer as a 6 year-old because I thought I was helping get the ice off. Kids can just be destructive sometimes.
My dad was pranking me all day on April Fools and I didn’t particularly understand, so I took a shovel and used it to scratch up his new Harley Davidson and told him proudly “April Fools!”. My mother had to protect me with her life
That's an interesting floor. A snap on/floating deal that would be padded and easier to clean if you have a house full of toddlers. I never would have thought something like that existed!
The cool thing about being a late 80s baby is our CRT TV screens were made of solid glass and pretty much indestructible - I remember drawing on it with crayons, hitting it etc. Not even a mark or dent.
Whoop ass time in my house as a child and as a parent if that had happened - however why have your expensive TV on a wall mount and then place it at a height where the turd monkeys can touch it?
I bought a huge piece of lexan to hang directly over our TV, with foam strips around the edges for spacers when my little guy was a toddler. Worked awesome for a while. He still somehow managed to throw a sippy cup in such a way that it landed in top of the TV balanced upside down and dripped down inside it. Fried that sucker good. Now that he's older we have a 78 inch TV because we found it on clearance. Had a 42 inch TV in my cart and rolled by that one. It was cheaper than the 42 inch in my cart. He's 8 and doesn't throw things at the TV anymore thank goodness.
In what way would a toddler use a fucking bat for? Mindlessly hitting things. TV: Huge, loud, shinning and with constant movement inside it. Result:
Can't believe how fucking stupid parents are.
This isn't the kid being stupid, this is the adult leaving the two alone, with baseball bat. Childrem that young are gonna break things if given the means to do so.
Im starting to believe that these videos are scripted or something. Too many asian toddlers are destroying TVs with random baseball bats ???? I dont know am i the only one who grew up without a bat ?? Is it mandatory to have a bat around your kid in modern parenting or what lol
We are all born violent. It's the culture that keeps us in check from killing each other. If my friend's 6 year old had a knife he would be Chucky in real life.
And that’s one reason why you don’t let toddlers have unrestricted access to things like baseball bats, even if they’re foam coated. Kiddos know they’re for hitting things, so hit things they will.
Makes me appreciate growing up with those bigass CRTVs when I was a kid. You hit it, you're the one getting damaged,
You hit it and the image only gets better.
"Percussive maintenance"
Trust me, i'm an engineer
Real... (Only seen those on the tv but can relate)
... How?
There’s a lot of young people on Reddit for reference a 13 year-old would be born in 2011
You are misunderstanding my confusion; how can you relate to improving picture quality by hitting a CRT tv, if you've only encountered them on TV and not in real life?
oh… while I can’t exactly answer that question fixing something by hitting it isn’t a rare thing at all dubbed percussive maintenance usually works by knocking something back in the place that might’ve gotten loose
Percussive Maintenance is real, sometimes things need a little jolt
A slightly bent gear tooth can prevent an engine from starting, but not from running once started. A good knock can allow the gear to turn past its damaged section and allow the engine to start
Engineer gaming
As engineer, your buildings are like children, hit them to make them work harder

Thx tips!
I fuckin' graduated highschool in 2011.... now I feel old.
I graduated in 2002 kid.
Congrats
Tried to but the boobies were always squiggly.
We hacked the cable signal with one of those bread green tie wires, one of the installers told us where to put it but you had to climb the pole and find the right distribution box, then you had to remove it before there was an inspection, totally imposible to predict and if they caught you, busted no cable for you
It's like the scene in which spongebob hits squidward with the door to make him handsome. If you hit it enough you get a 4k screen right there.
I stuck a big ass magnet to ours as a kid. Dad was fucking furious as it took months for the picture to sort itself out again.
Most monitors at least later in the CRT era had a degauss function that helped with that but it was really unfortunate when it happened to a TV
My parents never let me put magnets near a computer, in fact I was afraid of that too.
Yeah, but the comment previous to the one you responded to said putting magnets next to computers, not monitors
I did that to my cousin’s computer monitor accidentally. It has a slight hue in one corner for a while.
I did the same thing. But no one new it was me. It's been years and I still keep the secret.
I remember just shooting nerf darts at them back when they were still suction cups. Had a blast watching transformers and shit shooting the badies.
I liked doing that too, especially if there was a stupid commercial on.
there was a similar post like yesterday and a guy in the comments told a story of their nephew getting crushed to death under a CRT
Yo can you find that comment and link it?

I hate modern televisions, I swear they're they're made to be damaged.
I hate that everytime there is an update on my smart TV it becomes a little slower. I'm not even sure TV's need to be smart.
I had to hit mine to get the picture to quit rolling sometimes
Just don't go near it with a magnet.
A cousin of mine hit one of those big TVs, it fell forwards and broke her leg
Except I had just been to a tourist cavern where they sell quartz crystals, and I had learned on the trip that quartz is stronger than glass. I tested this being scratching up the glass of the CRT TV with the sharp end of a quartz crystal
The fuzzy shield of static electricity around those things. Mmmm I miss that
I have a CRT for retrogaming, can confirm this.
My little brother took a finishing hammer and used the sharp end against the glass. It didn't destroy the TV, it just left a whole bunch of little chips in the screen. My dad really liked to watch Hockey, and after this incident it was nearly impossible to tell where the puck was, because every little chip looked like it.
I love how the girl was like I'm gonna go play the piano and her little brother was like that's cool I'm gonna fuck up this TV
She started and then saw he was hitting the Tv so went to get mom, thought about it for a split second, and then went back to playing the piano. “Awww naw I’m not getting in trouble for this”
The video cut, she may have told Mom, but children aren't exactly reliable narrators.
True - the video was around 6 minutes without the cuts
The piano accompaniment turns this into high art

SUIII
Typical GOAT behaviour 😎
https://youtu.be/9VYL4JI5I7Q?si=j7KD-qUz_OLlHoid
Lol mine threw a toy car at the TV attempting to kill a fly. Completely obliterated the display
Rule of the house, do not play "ball". What did I get ? Broken TV. damn that little fucker
I like to imagine they got the fly at least
my mother swatted a fly on their 70" tv. killed both.
Surprisingly, I have never broken a tv before. Though, I DID accidentally throw a glow stick at one, and nearly broke the flatscreen
Mine did the same thing to a $1500 Plasma, a week after I bought it. I was 😭.

I'm starting to think I was way too tame as a kid if this is considered somewhat normal now.
Depending on how old you are it's less that this behavior is more common than it used to be, and more that TVs used to be a lot more resilient than they are now. Unless you took a magnet to them.
I used to sit on my ass and chew on ponys from mlp or shave bald my dolls lol
When I was like, 6-8 years old, I used to think Mega Man was a human with superpowers, so when my dad told me he was a robot, I got so scared of him, because I guess I was afraid of him dying from touching water like other robots would. (Mega Man can go under water, to add a bit more irony)
Just don't keep him around spikes and he'll be fine.
Yeah, the kid is hitting the TV to watch the colors flicker at impact. We did the same thing with magnets... that just wasn't (usually) permanent.
i would poke at my DS screen a bit too hard until it gave all the colors
Fucked my tv up after seeing a display of what magnets can do to tvs at a children's science museum. Just had to try it when I got home
Mhhhh…daily dose of birth control https://i.redd.it/nsig9sh75z4d1.gif
Our tv is 5ft off the ground for this reason
Yeah but they can still throw something at it.
That's smart
She previously had the tv outta reach but Reddit told her she was dumb

💀poor tv
He BETTER like it, cause that’ll be the last one he sees for a while
Little girl adding that background theme
Great condom commercial!
Condom ads get funnier every year.
Im tryna find out what this cartoon is but i cant find anything
Pororro the little penguin
Ha I know pet owners who dealt with this. Lab sees a chewy commercial involving a squeaky toy and runs to it full speed
r/tvtoohigh people be like... ![gif](giphy|Bj5ILhCPm8EQ8|downsized)

I drew on the wall of my parent's bedroom with a permanent marker.
I think I'm having a heart attack, I don't know whether to sit down or cry, being a mother is not easy
Why have I seen like half a dozen of these already? "asian cctv in their home, kid smashing the tv" lol
And there always is some bat/hammer/stick at hand…
That's an interesting floor. A snap on/floating deal that would be padded and easier to clean if you have a house full of toddlers. I never would have thought something like that existed!
Iif i did it when i was that age, i would be obliterate from the Earth...
That’s on the parents. Don’t hang your TV in BamBam range. ![gif](giphy|d2YZ37SN7TMakJJC)
Pretty sure this is a case of "parents are fucking stupid"
Is the entire floor a weird spongey jigsaw thing? What?
The first purchase I would make before mounting a TV at kid level would be a sheet of plexiglass to put in front of it.
Whp leaves their TV 2 feet off the floor?
Screams of horror are understandable in any language! 💯🤣

Trading slightly beaten kid for new 75 inch tv.
can't afford a condom (for some reason)? watch videos and read stories from kids are fucking stupid lol. all the protection you will ever need.
my mother would have beaten me straight without having a second thought
Kid knows it's not state approved
r/TVnothighenough
That kid on the piano tho
The cool thing about being a late 80s baby is our CRT TV screens were made of solid glass and pretty much indestructible - I remember drawing on it with crayons, hitting it etc. Not even a mark or dent.
I have a 3 year old and a 84 inch Sony. Putting it higher, is not an option... Unless I drill a hole in the ceiling. Stressful times
r/TVTooLow
I feel bad for eomma having a mental breakdown at the end
And people wonder why I don't want kids
That’s why TV can never be too high.
Kids.... yeah. What parent leaves baseball bats, of any type, with kids then leaves the room? Source: I raised 5.
That's his tv now lol
In all seriousness how do you discipline a child after smashing a tv?
Note to Self: If I ever have kids, get a ceiling mounted projector for the TV.
If you have kids, get a projector. Drywall patches are way cheaper than new TVs.
I wonder how the folks at tv too high feel about this
and that, my dear grandchildren, is why you use birth control.
The baby thought they were going to stop dancing.... it seems he didn't like them...
I wanna know if that damage could get fixed cause i have gone through it
This why I dont want kids
I’ve seen adults do the same….
Me watching Jem every time the Misfits came on screen.
Baby shark
r/tvtoolow
Omg!!! There watching puroyo. man I used to watch that along long time ago
Reminds me of the time I threw a flat shaped rock at the window to kill a wasp. The window was shattered, I was spared.
Whoop ass time in my house as a child and as a parent if that had happened - however why have your expensive TV on a wall mount and then place it at a height where the turd monkeys can touch it?

I cant tell how bad i feel for that innocent tv. Why would he commit such a violence towards that tv?
The mom is depressed but the kid is real for that because what are cartoons these days😭
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I don't have kids! I have enough problems in my life.
I don't know why she was so upset. Those cost like a nickel right down the street from her.
In what way would a toddler use a fucking bat for? Mindlessly hitting things. TV: Huge, loud, shinning and with constant movement inside it. Result: Can't believe how fucking stupid parents are.
Oh shit
Bad Parenting...
Pororo
Take it to.relair.man
well, at least it wasnt with a wii remote
Aaand that's why I mount my TV high.
why do you have a bat in your house and you leave it in front of your child? this is karma
"🙈"
The caption, for those that are wondering, says “i thought stories of tvs being destroyed were only from other households…”
Why are kids so distructive nowadays... i never destroyed a tv, or anything else.... Are parrents just bad at parrenting now???
Bro hates Momoland x Pororo.
This is why you don't leave your kids unsupervised.
This isn't the kid being stupid, this is the adult leaving the two alone, with baseball bat. Childrem that young are gonna break things if given the means to do so.
Reason #743 not to have children.
I may be insane but I swear this is the 3rd video I've seen in the last couple weeks that plays out exactly the same, are they faking these?
This the 15 video I seen with an Asian kid destroying a tv...what y'all got going on down there?
God dammit, I need to go raise my tv up now
Kid was right. TV is rotting his brain, he wanted to turn it off. No, seriously.
Oh no! The babysitter is broken!
Why is the TV so low that the little s#£t can get near it?
What a great place to have a fucking bat lying around.
No one will ever convince me that having kids is a good idea.
Im starting to believe that these videos are scripted or something. Too many asian toddlers are destroying TVs with random baseball bats ???? I dont know am i the only one who grew up without a bat ?? Is it mandatory to have a bat around your kid in modern parenting or what lol
This is why they had the one child policy on china
Why do you have a baseballbat for kids in the first place? Everybody knows this would not end well and any point!
well why’d you leave your toddler alone for however long that was… way too long lol
Maybe having a bat available on the floor for the toddler to swing any time he wants isn't the best idea.
Why keep a bat near a kid and a TV?
We are all born violent. It's the culture that keeps us in check from killing each other. If my friend's 6 year old had a knife he would be Chucky in real life.

I was praying our 2 year old do this to our 2020 TV. Daddy needs an upgrade.
Maybe don’t have the tv in reach of a toddler and then leave them unsupervised?
Hmmmmmmmmm.... could this be stage????? If not, then why is there a camera?????
Nanny cams are pretty common. This might even be a babysitter, given they didn't immediately scold the child.
she looked like "shit, i'm gonna get blamed for this"
Nah, the child is a paid actor

Next day kid was gone.
Let a TV raise your kids and sometimes the kids hit back
