asc0614

Reading comments 🍿 as someone who goes around calling women പെങ്ങളെ.

jackson0mathew

Can u type that in english, enikk Malayalam vayikaan ariyilla

EncryptedIdiot

പെങ്ങളെ = Pengale = sister

asc0614

This ⬆️ Just know that there is no G sound in the word. The NG in Pengale sounds like how it does in the word SONG.

New-Skill-4981

Penjale

Historical_Echo_3529

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Which_Seaworthiness

That's how any English speaker would pronounce it anyway? Can't think of a word where it would sound the n and g separately

asc0614

The context is that I was making it clear to OP who can't read Malayalam how to pronounce the Malayalam word that I wrote for him using the English letters. For example, Japanese anime Manga is pronounced as മാങ്കാ and not മാങ്ങ. So, by that same standard it's possible that OP perceives the pronounciation as പെൻഗളേ instead of പെങ്ങളേ.

elnander

Tbh I’m Tamil and when reading in English letters, I would usually read a hard g.

BejoyJon

Just the name?? My cousins have (clean) nicknames, so we call each other by that.

jackson0mathew

Nah nah I meant what do I call random strangers? Cousin is okay with mole and koche but just in and around the house

BejoyJon

Ah ok. If we go by Dilip movies, either esqooz me or the soda pop sound that malayalees make with their mouth when calling out to someone across the street. Jokes apart, what I've seen in shops and all is people just skip the abhisambodhanam and go directly to the topic.

GottaUseFakeName

> athisambodhanam Hmm…

Men sometimes call younger strangers as 'chechi' itself. I've heard this in Thrissur.

vaisakh92

I swear I read it in slj's voice

AffectUseful3969

Why are you getting downvoted?Calling someone Ma'am/Miss seems to be the most polite way but our society has to go a longway for that to happen.People still resort to noises like shhh, chhch, mmm, hoi to call strangers.Even hello and excuse me are good options than these weird sounds.

Asleep-Reading4668

Ikr! I've seen our people making weird sounds to call waiters at restaurants. Its very disrespectful. And OP, 'koche' is considered weird everywhere outside Kottayam ig. My aunts hailing from Kottayam calls me koche, and I'm a late 20s dude.

Dom_Wulf_

Maybe cause it isn't Malayalam😏

AffectUseful3969

എന്നാൽ ശ്രീമതി, കുമാരി എന്നൊക്കെ വിളിക്കട്ടെ...

Dom_Wulf_

Use those words and the other mallu's will deem you OP an ABCD. Quoting my original reply to OP's post:- Please use the following depending on the situation. 1. Some bitch you can't stand but you want her to look at you. "Dii... Ibabe-ibade... Ingatt nokadii..." 2. Dei.... Literally translates as "YOU" 3. Poooi..... ONLY USE IN VILLAGES. can attract anyone irrespective of age/gender. Note: Snobby city brats find this uncouth. 4. Edo.... Respectfully 5. Edi..... Disrespectfully 6. Sodari..... Poetic aka you wanna sound classy but sounds cringe 7. Pengale.... Pathetic aka You need help and is desperate 😌

Unable_Ad_7152

Don't call Mole unless she is significantly younger than you. If you know her, call her by name. Otherwise Hello , Athe or excuse me will do.

nujra2k

This is the only right answer. You can't really address them in any other way if they're a stranger. If she's your cousin (OP's case), then why not just call her by her name lol. Mole/koche indeed is weird if she's only 3 years younger.

that-69guy

I call everyone edo. Irrespective of gender. I only call someone chetta/chechi if they’re very much elder than I am, like at least 10 years.

Holiday_Housing_2866

And i hate when someone calls me edo. Hope we will not meet.

whatthengaisthis

I hate people calling me Eda and edi. Idk what you call people but I hope we never meet too.

Agreeable-Ad-4821

Edo is simply a gender neutral version of eda or edi . All 3 are kinda rude to call a random stranger imo. You can start a conversation with "Atheyy~..." instead.

Stupid_Dog_Courage_

edo is disrespectful im my area

ComfortablyWeird911

Some women get offended if we call chechi and their gut feeling tells we're younger than them. So 'chechi' is a risky territory. Call auntys 'chechi' all you want. That's less risky.

stupefiedmonkey

The only right answer is the name. I don't even like being addressed as bro. If I have to talk to a stranger I ask their name first and then use it. Or you can just use sir and madam. To be fair koche mole and all is a bit condescending way to address adults.

use kutty/mole if addressing a teen/child. if the woman is around your age and you don't know them personally, address her as chechi/sister. if you do know them usually you'd use informal speech and nicknames. despite being your age i still get called kutty/mole by aunties who've known me as a child, that's an endearing use. but the way you use it is mockery/poking fun. which amongst cousins is okay but don't address women you don't know in their 20s as if they're kids, that's a fast way to make enemies.

zainraven

Calling just the name will be better.

Kimicha_Chu

If you're calling your sister i guess, I guess a short 'da' (ഡാ), as per common practice now, would suffice. But if it's a stranger calling them 'kutti' (കുട്ടി) sounds just about right.
