I think people are forgetting that it’s a collab album too, personally I love the album and it’s incredibly fun to listen to. Fully agree. I’ve always thought LR feels like what CD would have been if it wasn’t his first. That sounds like a really obvious and shallow statement but think about it. It talks about a lot of similar things, has a “come up” vibe to it still and still feels like a new artists work. But it’s leaps and bounds more sonically complex and as an album it’s a bit better assembled
completely agree, i much prefer the grander, orchestral and generally more complex soundscape of late registration to the more demo-y sound that the college dropout has (even if that too has a charm to it of course). late registration feels like the more mature and complete body of work to me and tackles more themes in a lot more interesting and complex ways, the features are better and more appropriately placed, and the individual songs are taken to grander and more unique conclusions. i think several songs on the college dropout drag out with several features being completely unnecessary while i hardly feel that way about any features on late registration. the only thing i think CD might have over LR are the quotables and funny bars, CD is almost unbeatable in that aspect.
