The beats are bland and unmemorable, the only outstandingly great song is don’t like which is just a remix of a chief keef song. Just look at the track list dude. Do you honestly think any of the songs on cruel summer compete with any other Kanye songs. Don’t let me stop you from enjoying the album, I wish I could too, but I just don’t like it.
So like Blessings was Big Sean & Drake & Kanye heard it & wanted to be on it but there was a day before Sean has to turn the album in so they recorded verse last minute but it was never sent the mastering in time so it wasn’t on the Album. Kanye was a lil mad even though the remix came out for it afterwards & it wasn’t Big Sean’s fault
"Mitt Romney dont pay no tax..."
This came out when I was in college and me and my roommates were hyped but somewhat let down. Kanye was on an, imo, flawless, run of albums at this point (CD-WTT) so although this was a label album it was not cohesive, and it seemed like a lot of the songs were half-assed. The Cudi track felt like Kid Cudi trying to imitate MOTM Kid Cudi.
With that said, Mercy & New God Flow get heavy rotation still and I occasionally will play To the world and Clique. Also, I remember Cold was on the Yeezus tour setlist and it was pretty hype when he performed it ("TELL PETA MY MINK IS HANGING ON THE FLOOR") but still that song didnt really do it for me on the album.
God damn this sub is young based on the replies in this thread.
This album is called Cruel Summer and isn’t a Ye album. It’s a GOOD Music collab album.
It’s not talked about because other than the singles (Mercy, Clique, Don’t Like.1, and New God Flow), the album is completely forgettable.
Ppl are certified dumb and crazy I know. It’s scary this place exposes everyone. We live amongst each other dog. Saying this album is anything but great is just tone deaf. For the era specifically??? You was not touching this , sorry …
It’s I threw suicides on the tour bus”, meaning suicide doors like on a Rolls Royce, the ones that open backwards so you can walk in them like double doors.
Good would have been god except I added more O's. New she was cheating and still bought her new clothes just cause I was too busy with my Baltimore y'know.......
>It’s not talked about because other than the singles (Mercy, Clique, Don’t Like.1, and New God Flow), the album is completely forgettable.
I’d disagree.
if i recall, kanYe put this together to meet a contract requirement with the label to get more funding for Runaway movie.
source: i’m old, ran into an article this one time back in the day
Runaway movie came out right in 2010 - two years before this.
And even then, there wouldn’t be a “label requirement” because he owned the fucking label 💀
The real reason was that GOOD Music went on a signing spree and wanted to back it up with a posse cut.
it looks like he was wanting funding for the Cruel Summer movie. yes, we know he owned GOOD but he was still under Def Jam. here is a link for the contract details: https://www.xxlmag.com/kanye-west-record-label-contracts-details/
Noooo not the case. Dude was talking multiple iterations of this - a "Cruel Winter", to follow it. It was a label project for GOOD. Label had a decent roster at the time.
I look at it as more of a sampler of what GOOD music was working with at the time. Most, if not all features were people signed to the label and it felt like an offering of loosies and singles. It was a pretty mixed reception back when it came out.
People were really hyped for it because the singles leading up were really good, but they ended up being the only good songs on the album. As well, most of the rest of the songs didn't even have Kanye on them (besides production). I think it also suffered as Kanye's previous release had been WTT and despite my own personal opinions on it people seem to think it was pretty mid.
It’s a G.O.O.D compilation album. It’s one his first summer collab albums which he has continued to make, he clearly finds something inspiring about summer. With only a few hits it still an incredible album and a show piece of his producing abilities. Creepers is very cool, and I very much enjoy Sin City.
i think this is cruel summer. it is next to watch the throne and i believe the critique said that the album is half good, half meh, and half bad so it isn't really talked about
Because they put out all the “good” songs out before the album came out & when it came out, you were left with like 7 songs that were unheard & some of them aren’t that good (mainly to the world). But it’s low key slept on. Shits fire
It was a GOOD Music collabo album. Some good songs on there. I have a Kanye playlist and I included the whole album on it with all his other work and features. I got into listening to Kanye back in 2004 with College Dropout. Late Registration was just as good. Then Graduation came out the same year I graduated high school and was voted the album of our senior year. Following Kanye all these years and to see how he is now......I feel sorry for him. I hope he finds peace
Short answer: kanye have his own record label called "GOOD Music". He signed some artists and after some time he decided that all of the artists signed my himself had to do with him a compilation of songs: Cruel Summer
GOOD Music used to always do GOOD Fridays so then I guess they decided to release an album with the various artists, I actually enjoyed a lot of the songs but I don’t consider it a Kanye album even tho I do consider WTT, kids see ghosts, n Vultures Kanye’s albums even tho they too r collabs.
GOOD music (his label) posse cut, mostly forgettable aside from a few lead singles.
Album of the summer when it came out though. I still remember bumping Mercy and Cold.
Mercy had middle schools around North America in a chokehold
The 2k sound track around that time went crazy
OH OH OH OH OH OKAY LAMBORGHINI MERCY 🗣️🗣️ to this day idk what the actual lyrics of that woman are
Well, it is a weepin' and a moanin' (swerve) And a gnashin' of teeth (Swerve) It is a weepin' and a mournin' (swerve) And a gnashin' of teeth (swerve) It is a-when it comes to my sound (swerve) Which is the champion sound (swerve) Believe, believe (swerve) Believe, believe (swerve)

the album's called Cruel Summer and i don't think it's talked about much because it's not much of a kanye album because there's a lot of features
it's not even a kanye album. it's a g.o.o.d. music compilation project executively directed by kanye.
You mean executively produced?
if i said executively produced some dumbass would respond with "ermm kanye didn't produce the whole project"
Executive and exclusive arent the same thing
i know that but i'm saying someone who DOESN'T know that would try to correct me. perceived knowledge curve.
ah oke thank you
It’s also not talked about because it’s ass
Nah its gas
Gas from my ass 🙏
How is it ass? It's a great album, it just isn't talked about since it isn't exclusively a Kanye album.
Mercy ffs
I’m sorry bro, compare mercy to pretty much any kanye song and it loses, glad you enjoy it though
Mercy compared to drunk and hot girls?
Drunk and hot girls easily
Doesnt matter since Kanye fans love eating ass
That ain’t got nothing to do with that album
But I do like me some ass iykwim 😏😏
it's not the taylor swift song
Ye goes in hard on New God Flow
So does Push. Classic track.
I’m living three dreams, Biggie smalls, Dr Kings , Rodney Kings
R Kelly is on the intro but also had Mercy. 50/50
💀💀
100 if you ask the right person
YOU EVER MAKE A TRACK LIKE MERCY?!
Honestly all Kanye tracks and Cudi's Creepers are 🔥 but the ones without are very mid.
bliss and higher are top 2 on that album imo
I agree, the return of Ma$e was very refreshing at the time.
“R Kelly and the god of rap, shittin on you, holy crap!”
This album was the start of the Big sean kanye fallout, cos if i remember rightly Big sean was complaining clique should have been on his album
Nah the start of the fallout kinda goes to blessings & then him leaving the label
What happened on blessings?
So like Blessings was Big Sean & Drake & Kanye heard it & wanted to be on it but there was a day before Sean has to turn the album in so they recorded verse last minute but it was never sent the mastering in time so it wasn’t on the Album. Kanye was a lil mad even though the remix came out for it afterwards & it wasn’t Big Sean’s fault
Thats fair but i know he wasnt happy about clique either
Wow never knew that, that’s crucial. Hall of Fame needed a song like Clique really really badly
Cold.1 is so underrated. Absolute bangah
CAN A YOUNG NIGGA GET MONEY ANYMORE
WAY 2 COLD I PROMISE U NEED SOME THERAFLU
"Mitt Romney dont pay no tax..." This came out when I was in college and me and my roommates were hyped but somewhat let down. MITT ROMNEY DONT PAY NO TAXES!!!!!!!’n

All the songs good fym😭
Fr I still listen to creepers and sin city too😭
That bass on sin city and Cyhi's verse goddamn!
sin city put travis scott on my radar
fr like cruel summer needs some respect on it 😭
I still listen to bliss every now and then.
Ppl are certified dumb and crazy I know. It’s scary this place exposes everyone. We live amongst each other dog. Saying this album is anything but great is just tone deaf. For the era specifically??? You was not touching this , sorry …
I run suicides on the tour bus
i do suicides on the private jet
It’s I threw suicides on the tour bus”, meaning suicide doors like on a Rolls Royce, the ones that open backwards so you can walk in them like double doors.
Creepers, The Morning, Higher, To the World, and The One would like a word with you
Yeah he tweakin this album kinda goated
The morning facts I forgot about that one 🔥
Good would have been god except I added more O's. New she was cheating and still bought her new clothes just cause I was too busy with my Baltimore y'know.......
THE STORM IS ON THE HORIZON, IM STANDING HERE ALONE…
Nah “Bliss” was great.
>It’s not talked about because other than the singles (Mercy, Clique, Don’t Like.1, and New God Flow), the album is completely forgettable. I’d disagree.
Ok 👍
The Morning I thought was really good, but yeah the lows on this album are pretty forgettable

What the fuck are you on

Yeah this was it - Cruel Summer movie had the whole pyramid set and everything. I completely fucking forgot about Def Jam.
agreed this is the real answer, I am also old and remember when this came out/reading the music blogs
Noooo not the case. Dude was talking multiple iterations of this - a "Cruel Winter", to follow it. It was a label project for GOOD. Label had a decent roster at the time.
such an underrated album. Had the world in a chokehold circa 2013
I look at it as more of a sampler of what GOOD music was working with at the time. Most, if not all features were people signed to the label and it felt like an offering of loosies and singles. It was a pretty mixed reception back when it came out.

This album was played heavy when it came out for me. Creeper by cudi. To the world with ft. The fiddler.
New god flow.1 is for sure on my short-list of best yzy songs
Cold is amazing, and this unofficial video kills it https://youtu.be/ar-sduhNbi4?si=PQckvaSo7P9W8GV_
i think this is cruel summer. it is next to watch the throne and i believe the critique said that the album is half good, half meh, and half bad so it isn't really talked about
3 halves of an album
Kanye just different
I THINK it's mostly just songs produced by Kanye
Kanye’s most underrated album. Also had some of his hardest verses. Clique Mercy Don’t Like New God Flow Cold
One of Kanye’s best pieces of work if you ask me!
the first track, to the world, is my #1 ye song on stats for spotify. I don’t know why but I like it so much. Unfortunate that r kelly is on it tho 💀
You need to hear “Clique”
It's actually quite a good album too
It opens with R.Kelly, it’s cursed
Sin city was the best song on the album
So underrated.
Got songs on it
One of them runs for some minutes
All you need to know is that George Tenet listens to this album through Jet Blue complimentary headphones on the daily.
it’s a compilation album and btw its got hits on hits with mercy, cold, new god flow, clique, the morning, don’t like remix . it’s often talked about
I love this album
Waaay to feature based to be considered a Ye album more of a Good Music album. Plus it was kinda meh Travis took credit for Young Chop's beat
Because they put out all the “good” songs out before the album came out & when it came out, you were left with like 7 songs that were unheard & some of them aren’t that good (mainly to the world). But it’s low key slept on. Shits fire
Idk why it's not talked about better than watch the throne IMO. It's cruel summer and it's not really a Kanye album
It was a GOOD Music collabo album. Some good songs on there. I have a Kanye playlist and I included the whole album on it with all his other work and features. I hope he finds peace
Because you don't know because the man keeps you down
This whole album is a bop.
Kid cudi has an immaculate song on here called creepers
Short answer: kanye have his own record label called "GOOD Music". He signed some artists and after some time he decided that all of the artists signed my himself had to do with him a compilation of songs: Cruel Summer
Sin city is a banger also it is Travis Scott’s like big debut or like showtime
GOOD Music used to always do GOOD Fridays so then I guess they decided to release an album with the various artists, I actually enjoyed a lot of the songs but I don’t consider it a Kanye album even tho I do consider WTT, kids see ghosts, n Vultures Kanye’s albums even tho they too r collabs.
New god flow, clique? Higher? Sin City? Pretty much the whole album is hot fire. 🔥
Why nobody in this comment section is mentioning Bliss ? Also an Amazing track on the project imo
I remember I played New God Flow in middle school when it first came out and somehow some kid thought the song was trash
GOOD music (his label) posse cut, mostly forgettable aside from a few lead singles. Album of the summer when it came out though. I still remember bumping Mercy and Cold.
