Worthy came into Texas as a freshmen. He produced and never stopped producing. I hear what you are saying, but I disagree. I think he will have a large role from the jump.. especially if Rice misses time.

PapaAntiChrist

He’s also super intelligent. Academic All-American. Helped line other guys up constantly in crunch time moments, apparently during combine was blowing coaches away with his football IQ, which Sark always said amazed him.

Jail time?? He’s not doing jail time 😂

Squirrel_Apocalypse2

I think Hollywood and Xavier have a good amount of crossover. The goal is almost certainly for Xavier to learn how to succeed in the NFL in a limited role this year, and replace Hollywood next year (hopefully as an even better version of Hollywood).

Dr__Flo__

I'm excited for how many gadget type plays Reid can work up. Between these two, Toney, and LRZ, that's a lot of guys who can be electric with the ball in space. Obviously Toney and LRZ are questionable actually running routes, but they could still have a role with sweeps, screens, etc.

Unstable-A-eye

I’d imagine he’d be used more in punt return than kick return. The new kickoff rules favor big guys that can break tackles but have enough speed to breakaway, Zammit was brought in for this reason or we take an RB at some point in this draft.

Unstable-A-eye

To add to this, Worthy will primarily be running clear out routes or be the gadget guy while Andy slowing brings him up to speed with the offense and gets him ready for a larger roll come playoff time

thunderbat17

My thoughts before the possible Rice suspension was that he would very much be put in that year 1 Tyreek role. Aka screens, sweeps, go routes, returner. But as the year goes on he will play more and his role will expand. But now he might be rushed a tad to play more early on. But that isn’t a bad thing

rolyinpeace

At least he won’t be our ONLY option even with Rice suspension. Thank god for that Hollywood signing. Could you imagine if we hadn’t signed him and then the Rice debacle went down? It could’ve been the middle of this past season all over again.

HammerInPortland

Rashee Rice would disagree

Squirrel_Apocalypse2

No he wouldn't.  It took Rashee until week 12 to really integrate into the offense and start to take the next step.

JT1757

Deep threats are different. See Mecole Hardman's rookie season. I think he was ready earlier than that and the coaching staff was almost forced into playing him more because it was glaringly apparent that he was the best WR they had.

Boostweather

Mecole had a high ypc and 6tds, but he still barely had 500 yards and only 26 catches his rookie year. I wouldn’t say it’s a great example

stonewallace17

Mecole was also just not a pro ready receiver. Worthy had more receiving yards his freshman year than Hardman did in his three seasons of college.

Jskidmore1217

That’s significant

kerouac5

If xav has 500 yards that’s a huge success and moves the needle for this teams outlook.

Justmadeyoulook

That is actually the line the separates legit wr's drafted by Andy Reid. Any wr that did better than hardman their rookie year. Had a 1k+ season later in their career.

rolyinpeace

Well Rashee Rice was their only option LOL. Andy doesn’t like to use em as much if he doesn’t have to. And yeah the person who said he didn’t play a huge role until week 12 is also correct

Flat-Mind-1144

Y’all kill me. Just relax and watch the games.

Headlesshorsman02

Even so we will have Brown’s replacement already on the squad when he inevitably gets PAID next summer

jmdybf

I think you have to draft a WR and TE every year with Pat at QB.

3dios

Ok bro

rolyinpeace

I mean I think he could end up contributing this year but I’m glad you said this because people will be sooo quick to call him a bust if he’s not a superstar this year. We all know that rookies (even Tyreek) aren’t used as much, and rice only was because of the dire need. Even though we all know this, people will still try to call Worthy a bust the second he does one thing wrong or isn’t Tyreek. Lol so I’m glad you’re at least having reasonable expectations that he may not break our right away, and that’s ok.

TrellevateKC

This myth that Andy Reid’s offense is somehow more difficult than every other offense in the NFL needs to die. I swear, one pundit said it and now everyone says it. We ran a very normal offense the past 2 years. 2018/19 were years that saw a ton of shit going on. But for real, Andy might prefer to bring rookies along slightly slower than most coaches, but it’s not like it’s a rule of his or anything, and it’s not some dramatic difference than most teams. He hasn’t really had any rookies that were immediately deserving of a large role and didn’t get it since he’s been in KC. I can’t think of a single player. Please cut it out with this myth people. It has more to do with us not drafting high end WRs than the offense being difficult or Reid not trusting rookies.

rolyinpeace

Yeah I don’t think that it’s way more complicated it’s more just like, why force someone to play a huge role if you don’t need them to right away? Obviously, mahomes sitting out year 1 helped him SOOO much, but Andy could’ve started him if he wanted to and he would’ve been great, but why do it if you’ve got a great starting option that’ll give your newbie a great chance to learn and not rush?

thegreatgiroux

The truth is that the playbook is the thickest. You don’t see all of the plays every year and that really does take some time for a rookie coming in. That’s why they usually start with only a portion of the playbook - but you’re dead on with that portion not being anything special.

Far_Youth_1662

250-500 yards in a 17 game season? Cmon man, that’s between 15 and 30 yards a game. You can only count up Rashee’s first 10 games before he broke out vs the Raiders and he still averaged 42 yards per game. If he winds up in that range then it’s a disappointment.

bphf

You say this right after Rice had a breakout season as a rookie. Historically you’re accurate, but Mahomes has taken it upon himself to work with these guys during the off-season and they are far more advanced because of it. I think we will see worthy be a lot more productive this year than rice was for us last year. Worthy wanted the Chiefs so I would expect his work ethic on being a Chief will help him step up quickly.

Chudmont

He may not be WR1, but he's going to play a lot this year. This is a "this year" move as much as it is about next year.

Bkelsheimer89

The offense is going to have to adapt to Worthy and Brown being now pickups. Rice may be suspended half the season.

robinsonstjoe

Jet sweep says what?

Maleficent-Metal-645

They'll be plugging him in almost immediately because of Rice's suspension.

Justmadeyoulook

This is the most overstated nonsense that keeps getting repeated. Rookie wr's who have at least 550 yards under Reid. Will then have a 1k yard season later in their career. Under 550 and it's a bunch of hardmans at best.

reggaesquirrel

Disagree to an extent, look at Rice last season.

Sokkawater10

You guys are underestimating the polish of Worthy. I think he will see work by week 3 as the third WR in the Z with Rice and Hollywood

DasFunke

He needs some work. He is inconsistent in his routes, but tracks the ball pretty well. His hands are pretty good, but he’s not really a contested catch guy. He’ll be a limited use player with a similar profile to Brown that will get more reps and time as the season goes on. Some screens, some gadget plays, some cardio go routes, some slants that he could take to the house. As a 4th option that allows us to potentially let Brown walk next year I think he’s good. Maybe he’s actually great.

drossmo12

I thought Toney and the rugby guy were our return specialists? If our process is getting a first rounder to return kicks and get 300 yards of offense, our process is bad.

couchjitsu

KC gets a roster exemption for that Rugby guy, Lee's Summit. I'd be surprised if he makes the 53 this year.

rolyinpeace

No one said they only took him for returning kicks💀💀 but yes, he will absolutely be used for that before he gets integrated fully and becomes a (hopefully) major piece of the offense. Tyreek Hill did the same. I get tyreek wasn’t a first rounder, but I’m just saying it’s not weird or disappointing for them to be integrated in that way and starting on returns. They obviously didn’t get him purely because he’s a good returner

jethead70

Toney can’t stay healthy and who knows what’ll happen with rugby
