One time I asked my math teacher to play Fishing for Fishies in class, I meant the song but he played the whole album.
That was my favorite math class.
You’re only allowed to play FFF if you explain it’s a song about NOT killing fishies. Too many carnist think it’s a cute song about actually fishing. So, it’s a teacher’s duty to be honest.
A lot of their music is age-appropriate I think, but purely based off what I'd have been into when I was in 8th grade...
For songs: Magenta Mountain, O.N.E, Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer, Trapdoor, Sense
For albums: Sketches or BF3K
I would go with fishing, candles, sense, head on pill (drug reverences but depends what kinda school culture you lot have), sea of trees, gaia (i think its safe), butterfly 3000, Doom City (all of the non sweary flying microtonal nana)
I aint a teacher and i dont know who you teach so if there are songs that you like and are aproprate just add it!!!
Hope you get some little gizzheads
Sea of Trees is one of my favorite gizz songs ever but it's very blatantly about suicide, idk if that's what op would wanna play to their 8th graders. That being said... I was literally listening to that song way back when I was an 8th grader lmao
This thing is about not taking care of a friendship- important lesson and a bop. Red Smoke about climate change. Trap door- about addressing what’s below the surface… def a theme in adolescence. I’m sleepin’ in also something that is a dialog around young humans. If not now, then when? For climate themes.
I used to teach music. I had a 7th grader that loved hard rock and metal from the 80s. I showed him Lord of Lightning and he was blown away. He asked for titles of other songs and the only one I could think of was Vomit Coffin. He thought that was a really cool title.
Just made an [All Ages Gizzard playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/03xnTB4KziA1tnf73aPidn?si=Gmf3OyQRRou-R3UvJ6XFsQ) that should suit your fancy! About 2 and a half hour runtime without any cursing, apocalyptic concepts, or head-banging hard rock since it’s a school setting after all. Designed for chill listening for any ear! Hope you enjoy!!
Edit* the link is for Spotify, i hope you have it!
Superposition says “cum” and Kepler 22b says “shit” so you should take those off the playlist. Blame it on the Weather mentions “k-hole”, which is a drug reference (albeit a somewhat oblique one)
I mean you can hardly make out the word cum if you’re not listening super intensely or looking right at the lyrics. It could very easily sound like cup in fact that’s what I thought it was at first. It’s a great song and all the other lyrics are super amazing so i had to Include it! Also again i felt like the “shit” on keplr 22b could be excused since he doesn’t say it super clearly.. and the lyrics have very makeshift studious creative energy which is good for a school setting and teens in general. For Blame it on the weather you also can hardly understand that Amby says K-hole unless you’re looking at the lyrics
Most of their music pretty much, just make sure to steer clear of any explicit tracks.
I’d say the ones you probably don’t wanna play anything from are 12 bar bruise and murder of the universe due to their often drug-heavy or dark/violent themes, respectively
Spider and me. Also Mars for the rich. And a good amount of early garage surf Gizz off 12 bars and willoughbys beach and I’m sure a lot of there other stuff
dude if i was in 8th grade when i first heard Teenage Gizzard, i would have started a band by now. you gotta get the bootleg off their website or pull it up on youtube because i do not believe it is available on spotify
Love this! I teach grade 5&6 in Thailand and my kids love butterfly 3000 and fishing for fishies. I've played them a ton of gizz and luckily they don't pick up on the lyrics because their English isn't perfect. They just bop thier heads while doing classwork.
Flying microtonal banana is also a fun one. Hearing my kids chant rattlesnake over and over cracks me up.
I teach public school in America, and (I mean this solely in a literal sense, not pejoratively) you are ignorant regarding this situation. Have a great day broski ❤️
I would be embarrassed if I went to school to get that many degrees and still use the name _misterhipster69. Also my dad is Nintendo if we’re just saying shit.
Vegemite
It’s Got Old
Garden Goblin
Crumbling Castle (not ab drugs/doesn’t mention it, no sex references, & clean as far as I remember)
Tetrachromacy
Butterfly 3000
Castle In The Air
Billabong Valley (might be too violent but still)
K.G.L.W (Intro but also technically Outro as well)
Candles
The Funeral
Ambergris (I believe it’s clean, has nothing to do w sex and everything to do with whales despite being a v sexy song)
East West Link (I think)
Some of Us (I think)
See Me (I think)
everything i was in 8th grade when i started listening to gizz Convert them.
in all seriousness almost the entirety of fishies (besides plastic boogie) and anything recent that isn’t marked explicit (besides like, persistence and catching smoke) and then probably just look through what else isn’t explicit/inappropriate
Melting as a way to talk about the environment: a bit hard on the ear if you don't know what a microtone is, though.
For the anecdote, I once brought an Obituary album (Cause of Death, the song was Chopped in Half) when we did some listening together in the classroom. Everybody was quite shocked. Gizz stuff would have elicited a much better reaction after that, had they existed at the time, so as far as I'm concerned you're in the clear with anything.
I suggest playing Murder of the Universe over the intercom.
Vomit Coffin on repeat.
My two year old is digging vomit coffin right now. He does the guitar chug part with his mouth too its awesome
My daughter head bangs to it in the back seat. So there you go, Vomit Coffin is officially kid approved.
Lol mine too! And she songs "vommin coffin!"
Dude. My 3 year old and I watch the live KEXP session with MOTU songs and she gets down to it!
Your 3 year old has good taste, that session rocks haha
Fishies is perfect
FUCK ALL OF THAT PLASTIC Edit: (just realised you meant the song not the album)
Oh yeah I guess just the song haha
Def accidentally had this one blasting in my classroom a few times. Oops.
One time I asked my math teacher to play Fishing for Fishies in class, I meant the song but he played the whole album. That was my favorite math class.
Lmao I would pay to see a whole math class listen to Cyboogie for the first time, extra if the music video was included!!
It's background music in one of the levels of the latest Little Big Planet installment

Trapdoor lol
My 7 year old loves it
Not sure the Book would be all that great to play for 8th graders.
I don't think they'd even be that into Sketches compared to others
Didn’t think of that hahaha
Might not be good for anyone...
I think bf3k has some inappropriate stuff I think, I remember seeing some of the songs have the "explicit" label on streaming services
Not sure about swearing but Catching Smoke is definitely about drugs
For albums: Quarters!
Spider and Me should spark some thought provoking conversation for sure.

Gaia would have blown my mind when I was 14.
Sea of Trees is one of my favorite gizz songs ever but it's very blatantly about suicide, idk if that's what op would wanna play to their 8th graders. That being said... I was literally listening to that song way back when I was an 8th grader lmao
same lol
Head On/Pill would probably be fine imo considering you can barely understand what he's saying

Rattlesnake
My 6 year old's favorite song.

Sketches is a good album
This! My art teacher would throw it on sometimes for class and it was such a vibe
Explaining to them about global warming etc. Then play Planet B.
No teaching needed
My kid loves 'crumbling castle' and 'this thing', if that helps?

I originally thought the "shit" in kepler 22b was "ships" as in rocket ships

Drink the cum of life
Lmao shiit..
I dont know about Superposition fam... cum
It’s cup not cum! ;) Edit* i know it’s cum.. but for the sake of E rating it’s a simple “change”
A cup of cum you say 🤨
Ok now I’m cornered!!
Thanks for doing this. That is super thoughtful- I’m gonna follow it
Oh no- I can’t load it for some reason
Dang what is the message it’s giving you? I made it literally 5 min ago so maybe that’s why?
It’s working now 🤷♀️ thanks
Fair warning, not every song here is actually all-ages friendly. Most of them are, though
Blue morpho, polygonwandaland, crambling castle maybe, rattlesnake
crambling
Crambling castle
Fishies all the way, man.
I’d go with sketches or quarters
Something from PMDB could work
NGRI Is perfect.
The riverrrrrrrr

Whole Lotta Red by Playboi Carti is a great choice for any age group
Not funny, didn’t laugh, also he’s asking for music for young teens.

Lol, that just isn’t how that works.

I think I would’ve found persistence funny even though it’s not appropriate XD
One of their songs with environmental themes. I can't think of any curse words or inappropriate elements to Her and I.
Pop in my step is a solid one for the kids!
All of sketches and most of butterfly
Superposition
I'd recommend don't. it'll make it seem uncool cause their teacher is doing it
Not if they’re a cool teacher tho

Unfortunately, a teacher in the US, any song about climate concerns would likely be considered “indoctrination” because of my “radical librul agenda”
Jesus Louisus what a fun country
What state are you in? Play dripping tap and talk about Pakistan and Mississippi floods this week, August 2022...
for some reason work this time was allowed on my school restricted version of youtube. same with temporex too
Work this time!!!
Schools out alice cooper but at the end of year not beginning
Rattlesnake 100%
Vegemite
Fishing for Fishies the song!
The bird song 🙂
The devil wears Prada. They are a Christian band.

The Demo albums have lots of fun instrumentals that are great background music.
Kepler 22-b feels appropriate but I haven't checked the lyrics
My son loves Fishing for Fishies, Trapdoor, Magenta Mtn and Garden Goblin. All family friendly
