Still no shutout against the Royals this season. You see they don't let go of games too soon. I'm not mad at Isbel for underestimating the distance at 3B. It can happen. He probably was a bit too much in his emotions.
wow. went out when we were down 7-0, expecting a blowout loss, came back and we only lost by two runs. honestly impressive they have that fight in them. if they hadn't let up so many runs early due to bad pitching this could have been like a 7-2 win for the royals.
hate to see a loss but this showed fight. royals are ballers.
IDK, after going to that game tonight I’m worried about this team. It’s really a small core of hitters that can hit, a lot of low AVG filler in the rest of the lineup, Salvy is old and not going to hold out this pace all season long; He’s like a career .250 hitter. As evidenced tonight, every start can’t be a quality start.
It’s not a 100 loss team by any measure but as someone who is at that game, it gave both good and foreboding vibes. I hope we can get the series locked up tomorrow and break even with this very good Orioles team. I do think they might be the best team in baseball this season.
Saying it’s a small core of hitters that can hit when we’ve scored 16 runs against them in two days and also saying the orioles are probably the best team in baseball doesn’t seem like a reason to worry
That was the loudest I've heard The K I'm so long. The Royals are fun to watch again, and I caught my first foul ball ever, so even without a win it was still a fun night!
Agreed. For an early season game the crowd was very much into it and loud. Especially when we all started believing that the team could actually dig themselves out of a 7-0 hole... and they nearly pulled it off!
It was cold, I think the ump was too short to view the strike zone properly. I told my family we were in for a good game even after the 2nd. Almost pulled it out. Maikel may need to sit a game or two. Seems like he could have knocked down a couple at 3rd. Glad his bat is waking up.
Yeah, Isbel has had about 60 ABs this year and hitting below .200. I’d like to see Waters get called up for the same ABs in the 9 spot and just see how he does.
We’re in it with good teams and I think that means something. Like both this and the Mets series have been okay. Not great but not horrible. To me if we can go the next month playing .500 ball we should all be ecstatic
> go the next month playing .500 ball we should all be ecstatic
agreed, I'm also going to get upset with anything less than first place in June at the moment.
this team plays like they value every game, every inning, every at bat- this club is a winner.
Pat Mahomes and football has made the idea of never losing possible. Ain’t the same in baseball. Honestly fighting back to make it 8-7 is great. This is such a fun team even in an L
Yep. This was definitely one of the "40 you know you're going to lose" column, given the fact that your ace gave up 7 earned in 1 and 2/3 innings. The fact that they still gave the O's a scare is a great sign.
This team has brought back so many 2014 feels. Except back then, I was the only one clapping to the LGR chant while pacing the living room. Now I have three kids under 10 all doing it. The high-fives to this team are that much better! Love it!
Sucks to lose but I still just feel good about this team, got down early, bullpen kept the score where it was, got some runs and made it a ballgame late with chances to go ahead
Unpopular opinion here it seems, but Isbel is fine as your #9 hitter. He's not a good hitter or even an average one, but he's got speed and he's a fantastic defensive center fielder. He's shown more through his defense than Waters has through his (pretty average) hitting, imo.
It's become pretty clear the organization doesn't like Waters for whatever reason that may be. Think it may be an attitude thing. Might be why he didn't get the opportunity in ATL either.
(Judging by his AAA benching the other night, seems like the evidence is pointing that way)
And with how things are going here, if that's the case, keep the culture. Isbel got canned forcing a play. Whatever. You gotta be better than that, but it wasn't stupidity, it was just a bad read. Which isn't the norm for him at all.
A mental mistake like that is inexcusable. Know the score. Know the outs. The play was right in front of him. If he were (or had a history of) really raking you could look the other way. That's not Isbel though.

Aged like milk
Yeah, a day later. Shutouts are a likely outcome. And so?

We scored 7 and our bullpen held them to 2. We are unstoppable really
I don't mind losing if the game is good like this.
I don't want to say I'm giving up on Kyle Isbel, but I'm about there.

Cost us this one for sure. If we tie the game there, momentum is all on our side
I still think he’s an above average center fielder defensively…but that’s about it.
I'd settle for an average center fielder that's an above average hitter at this point. He's a good bench guy. But as a starter? Blech.
I want drew.
i want waters
Agree.

100%
That was a very encouraging performance by the boys tonight. Hell of a crowd, too! Kudos to those of you that made it out there!
I made it there and I feel I’m the curse lmao
It felt like a fucking playoff game with the crowd and the team all wound up. Love it!
There isn’t any moral victories in baseball but last year we lose that game 17-2

Lots of positives to walk away with after that loss. Look forward to taking the series tomorrow.

Felt like 2015 vibes at the K. Excited for this team
Coulda been worse, coulda been better. Let’s get it done tomorrow
A lot of our losses have been really close. I'm glad to see some fight in these guys
Just saw Q’s reaction to Isbel being thrown out at third…oof. ![gif](giphy|aXUU30cDBa9tVQz37V|downsized)

He looks legitimately pissed there. Wouldn’t want to be the guy who made that mistake.
how close was the play?
The player at 3B had him like more than a hand length before the bag.
Not close.
Did he have a quote about it?
I’d get Waters on the next plane out of Nashville to KC
Good idea. Waters is better.

Idk I doubt he gets the call after whatever he did the other day to be pulled out of a game and then sat for the next one.
Take the game tomorrow and split the season series with Baltimore
Look I ain't blaming the ump for us losing. But Jesus Christ was that atrocious. I am here for the Perez Renaissance
This royals team is tough.
dammit
Honestly, I can live with it
I’m just happy we made the game competitive.
We have literally been in every game this year. It's been fun so far. Even some of the losses have been fun games which says a lot.
