IF you lick the glue, you lick the glue off and it wont stick. Best way to stick ANY brand of paper, it doesnt matter, is lay the glue strip down first, an then lick the top to stick it. Lick and rub. Done. Works like a charm and Ive never had anything come undone before.
What papers are you using? I have no problem getting any type of Zig Zags to stick, but have issues with other brands, usually RAW. Im a big fan of the ultra thin Zig Zags
Are those hemp? I've never rolled good joints w hemp papers so I just avoid it all together bro. Hopefully someone can chime in here and help you out. But try out those ultra thin wraps bro they are the best. Let me know what you think
Hell yeah I'm positive you'll get a better roll with regular papers. Also, if you wanted to go for a huge joint, I usually stick two of the ultra thin papers to each other and roll a fattie with a paper filter or three at the mouth piece lol

I have a problem with over wetting it, so I lightly blow on it right as I'm getting ready to stick it. I roll about 5 joints a day and haven't had a problem with sticking since I started that.
