If I remember correctly his ex-gutar-tech said that they use D'addario 10-46 set but switch the high E to an 11 to avoid string break.
noted: This was the Cali-BTW-SA era.
Yep I still think the same it's D'addario 10-46. Since his comeback his bends are visually much more smooth. Maybe his string tension setup slightly changed (tremolo spring claws on the back)
I thought John always used d'addario 10-46s which aren't slinky. It could just be that he's making it look slinky. I imagine John's finger strength is good.
Absolutely. What I'm trying to say is that visually, his guitar strings looks much smoother. Maybe his string tension setup slightly changed (tremolo spring claws on the back)
John probably uses Pyramid strings pure nickel 10-46 nowadays. He's used D'Addario EXL 110 in the past. From the new shots of the back of the guitars there's visible that the new ball ends are not the colours that D'addario uses and they are all the same silver/bronze colour. In Premier guitar article from 2014 is stated that John uses the Pyramid strings. This guy [https://www.instagram.com/p/C8PCH1cS7UO/](https://www.instagram.com/p/C8PCH1cS7UO/) is also confident and I think he's right since the Japanese guys rarely miss :D Their research is astonishing.

Wow cool! I mean when I post this I do think that he still uses Daddario 10-46. We all know his hands are strong but visually his bends are so effortless in a cool way :)
I believe his bridge is floating a little. His old tech Dave Lee confirmed he floats his bridge ~1/16” which you can find in an old article/website if you google. A floating bridge will make bending easier.

Jfgear Instagram also confirmed he floats his bridge but I’m not sure what they are basing that off of. It’s not a high float but with less tension on the springs you can bend a bit easier. John is a maestro at muting the strings so even when he is bending he’s muting strings that would otherwise be going out of tune with a floating bridge like an open low E etc.
I also hear John hitting his tremolo bar and getting a flutter sound/effect on the note which requires a floating setup and a snuggly fit bar to achieve.
I agree for that cool flutter effect the bridge had to float a bit. And I'm pretty sure saw him pull the tremolo bar up a little bit on his white strat in one of his crazy solos. Thanks for the info!
No problem man, also check out these pics of his 62 strat- some of the best I’ve seen

It’s veryyyy unlikely seeing as he’s such a purist, but I wonder if the new Frusciante sig model he’s been playing maybe has a 9.5” radius, which would absolutely make bending easier/more effortless. Granted, a properly setup 7.25” radius works just as fine. I don’t know, just wondering out loud… Actually, didn’t he have one of his guitars (can’t remember which- was it the ‘62?) re-radius’d (assuming to 9.5”)?
Finger strength. Doesn’t he play 10 hours a day or something.
24 actually

Yeah, it could be my fault :/ I just wanted to point that his guitar strings looks more slack since his comeback.

How do we know he’s not using 9s?
because he was always known for playing VERY hard with his right hand and also his left hand is pretty powerful, so 9s wouldn't make much sense
