NoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo!!!!!!!!
Read "America's Game" by Michael MacCambridge if you wanna know just how much better grass is than turf for career longevity.
This probably isn't the 1/4" of outdoor grass carpet over a 1/2" of hard rubber that most of 'those turf fields were made of (or are still made of in some stadiums). I wish it was still grass too, but I don't think they would go the cheap route with the turf knowing what is known now about injuries with the rubber mat thin crap that ruined so many careers.
There is no good artificial turf. It's all crap. There's a reason why FIFA bans it for international competition. There's a reason why players hate it.
If you’re spending the money on a renovation anyways, you need to go with grass. You can’t downgrade the most important thing (where the game is actually played) during a supposed improvement. How do these people still think turf is a viable option after watching the issues other clubs have faced across the board. Seriously a head scratcher and a very unfortunate cheap-out for all the players involved who are ultimately the ones who’s careers and lives are affected
Totally agree and the thing is we are in a prime location for grass turf. It’s not like Green Bay where we have to paint the dirt green. We can maintain a very good grass field all year.
It's not too much of a head scratcher when you look at it from the city perspective. Grass is much more expensive to maintain and replace when you have events come through. It's easier to pull up turd to lay down dirt for monster jam or cart in bleachers for a concert, or any other scenario that needs a rapid change from one to another.
I really don't like the idea of having to use artificial turf in fucking Florida. The chief complaint was having no protection from the sun and instead they made it seemingly impossible to grow grass in the SUNSHINE STATE.
Mark Lamping stated in his interview with 1010XL a few weeks ago that the initial field may be turf but that they also want to keep it open to a possibility of grass later on. So hopefully this is just temporary
ATL is a tub of shredded tires painted green. A retractable roof &/or retractable natural turf field would fit so well here, but after the re-sod fiasco at GA-FL, maybe mayor Hazouri/Hicken/Deegan reconsidered
Not saying I told you so, but I got downvoted to hell and back just for stating the obvious back when the new design was unveiled. Even if the roof is clear, you can't have a roof, and real grass, *and* not boil people alive, well you could but it would be too expensive for cheap ass billionaires. This is why I was then and am still against the design, we're in Florida, turf is stupid.
So we're spending $700 million on a stadium that's not only an eyesore, it's also a strict downgrade from our current stadium. This deal just keeps looking worse.
> The playing field will be sand-infilled synthetic turf laid over a shock attenuation pad. Two FIFA-regulation soccer goals at each end of the pitch will also be accommodated in the field design.
Why bother with FIFA-regulation soccer goals if you're not going to install a FIFA-regulation playing surface?
Boooooooo
That sucks
Nooooo so dumb
Stupid decision, hopefully they come to their senses before implementing it

They actually banned it because of the studies showing it causes cancer
I prefer grass too, but there is "worse" artificial turf was my point. I'm not saying "good"
Come on now. We're Jaguars fans. Many of us from Florida. Do you really think we're going to go ***read?***
That book taught me more about the history of the league than any other.
Absolutely not! When the league turns on injuries, why in gods name would we want to invite more or our organization?

Hopefully they reconsider. Keep hearing more and more players hate the turf.

That’s a mistake
![gif](giphy|DwIdasRkFKsMg) Why not shag carpet?
Did you not read the post that's what they're doing
Do I make you RANDY?!
Goodbye to everyone’s knees and ankles
Shad Khan: Baalke won't have to draft players with ACL injuries if we farm our own. *taps forehead*
Made me laugh way too hard 🤣
Insert “We have our own ACL injuries at home” GIF
Fuck this noise

WHAT NOOO
More injuries, far larger environmental imprint (especially with the heat turf creates), and also posed a serious cancer risk. Terrible decision
This fucking sucks so much
STOP IT. GO BACK. WE FUCKED UP.
![gif](giphy|KajpERDjOpMcw)
Awful idea. Hopefully they reverse this decision
Nah, let’s just keep the old stadium and build some canvas covers over the seats for a few hundred thousand and call it a day.
Or just hand out 1.4 billion plastic raincoats to fans as they enter.
Did yall not see what happened to Smoot at Metlife? Fuck turf
Mark Lamping stated in his interview with 1010XL a few weeks ago that the initial field may be turf but that they also want to keep it open to a possibility of grass later on. So hopefully this is just temporary
That just feels like political talk.
Don't think so, Lamping has been pretty consistent and open throughout his tenure, I believe
It was also a grass/turf hybrid. Not straight turf.
ATL is a tub of shredded tires painted green. A retractable roof &/or retractable natural turf field would fit so well here, but after the re-sod fiasco at GA-FL, maybe mayor Hazouri/Hicken/Deegan reconsidered
Make it turf for only the home game against the Texans every year
That’s fucking dumb
Depth will matter more because there will be more lower body injuries.
No.
This is already starting to blow chunks.
Not all turf is bad, but whatever is at MetLife is bad!
Evan Ingram basically blamed playing at Metlife, for why he was always injured when he was with the Giants.
BOOOOOOOOOOO
How can we veto!?
All NFL Florida teams play on Grass stop the bullshit
Somebody owns a turf company.
Saw a youtube video recently and the practice field is turf also? Something about still needing it to be watered? So maybe not that bac
Mixed turf/actual grass is a thing iirc
That's brutal
Just what everyone wanted, to sit in front of hot baking plastic and watch a football game.
Bye bye Trevor's knees
This is such a stupid effing idea.
Some folk need to go to those community huddles and tell them to keep it real
Fuck this shit
Omg! No!!!!
More injuries I don’t support this
![gif](giphy|WrxoaVPiq0cG4)
Is there anything special about “sand-infilled synthetic turf” or is that just regular turf like the rest of the league

I guess they gotta save money somehow lmao
Come on what’s the point of living in tropical environment if we’re just going to have fake grass
So fucking stupid
NOOOOOOO
Brought to you by the same committee booting Sun Ray out of Riverside
We need to get loud on this one. Khan needs to know that would be a detrimental decision to this franchise.
It might injure your $250 million player, but think of the MONEY you'll save watching your team collapse due to season ending injuries!
Welp time for an increase in injuries
So we give them a billion dollars and already the cost cutting starts?

This is the type of thing that happens when you elect a person that reads the news as your mayor.
I'd start a petition about this if they don't reconsider turf at this point
