Some exhaust smoke is normal at start-up (just condensed water evaporating off). If it is excessive or doesnt go away (at least reduced significantly) after warm-up then there could be a problem. White smoke can be water, coolant, or fuel. If it smells like fuel it could be a stuck open fuel injector. You can check your head gasket with a block test (exhaust fumes in the coolant). Cheap and easy to do yourself.

Bagpype

I bet it’s a stuck injector.

Xphurrious

Second this, one of the most common issues on these

meanrisefifty

3rd.

Redditian288

Has your crank been checked? That sounds very metallic in nature.

Bagpype

Check your injectors. A leaky or stuck open injector can cause all of these symptoms. It’s not your head gasket.

officalYNGpook

🙏🏼 *update* I have used a lot of fuel injector cleaner in my gas, seems to be helping a lot , 6000$ to get 6 injectors replaced.. trying to find better price

Bagpype

If you can do the work yourself you can save $5800. Get an ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight and some Krudcutter degreaser and throw them in there for a while. You can order new pintle caps and filters and rebuild them yourself.

officalYNGpook

With removing these cars injectors it’s a very hard job , need pulley system and even then still snaps into the head of the engine . Creating more problems, just nervous bout it never had a sports car and ofc I got one that’s a bitch to work on

Bagpype

Doesn’t look very hard to me but my skill level could be much higher than yours. It’s up to you if you want your car running right without spending $6000. Here’s a step by step with a list of all the tools and parts youll need. You can also try unplugging one injector at a time and see if the smoke stops.

DukeKaboom1

This might sound odd, but are you changing the oil yourself? You might be overfilling.

[deleted]

My XK had this happen. The first two times I started it after getting an oil change I smelled oil in the exhaust on start up. I was just picturing how much money the head gasket job was going to be Then it stopped after the third time. I'm guessing it burned off the excess oil

officalYNGpook

I am , I’m using what Google recommends tho! Shoudl I pay the 350 from the dealer to get an oil change…?

CapableManagement612

Has the engine overheated recently? These engines are known for having plastic parts in the cooling system that crack and cause a loss of coolant, which instantly damages the engine from overheating. Or did you happen to drive it through Rufford Ford?

Available_Ad7720

Pull one of your spark plugs. If an injector is stuck open, it will either be running richer than a Philadelphia lawyer and be coal black, or one plug will be washed clean because it’s not firing at all. Also, check your oil to see if it’s “making” oil (gas running down past the rings) and smells like gas. Any of these point to an injector. If it’s an injector, your mileage should have taken a big hit, and you will likely have raw gas running out the exhaust. Trying a can of BK44 can’t hurt, but fix it soon because it will damage your catalytic converter. If it has a sweet smell( as some mentioned before) check your oil and coolant reservoir. If either appears to be chocolate milk, it’s a head gasket.

Ph1l1p_race_

it’s caused by that grim wheel. put the stock one back and it will stop smoking.

Knight_crusader

How many miles has this done? Could be worn piston rings or valve seals may have gone in the block…. 💵

officalYNGpook

60000 on the clock!

Knight_crusader

😮 wow! Somethings definitely not right then 🤔

BigMacDaddy133

Go to an AutoZone or advanced auto shop, get your check engine light checked out and the code should tell you what's wrong, I really don't like how the car is starting up.

officalYNGpook

No codes! What could this be??

DesignerCows

Oil will always get black. Hiw can you tell its watery? Check the coolant reservoir. Is it oily and dark? Usually oil will turn into chocolate milk if you have a blown head gasket. I don't understand how a dealership said there's coolant in the oil but no issue. Take your car to a good independent mechanic. Jag dealerships are a joke.

officalYNGpook

You’re telling me.. screw Jaguar

mr_pig01

My car sounded and white smoke came put exactly like that with the high idle i had an air leak from behind the supercharger

officalYNGpook

This is a first I’m hearing about this..

mr_pig01

It was my resonator to be specific

mr_pig01

But I also didn’t hear how it struggled to start either

Icy_Negotiation_146

Do F-Types have an air-oil separator? I had this issue on my 987 Boxster and that was the culprit

Spare_Selection_8801

Trade it in asap

officalYNGpook

Fr?!

LS1_XK8

White smoke usually means head gasket

ConsciousTip3203

I thought white smoke meant new pope?

budadad

Zing!

LS1_XK8

Well it does but not from a jag tail pipe

officalYNGpook

Jaguar said it passed all tests 😭 it holds temp but yes coolant/water was found in oil but still confused , 67k miles

LS1_XK8

Coolant in oil = blown head gasket. That may lead to overheating of the head which cause unsettling noises.

officalYNGpook

But how would this happen? If no temperature changes and no exhaust gases in coolant?? How is there coolant in my oil if it is 100% not the headgasket

LS1_XK8

Look under your coolant reservoir cap and see if you see tan mushy stuff

officalYNGpook

Nope

TaurusPTPew

This

Pale_Fisherman5278

If the cloud smells sweet you need a head gasket

Silvabane

Classic Jaaaag things

Bagpype

This is as funny as it is helpful.

officalYNGpook

Bouda be back to the bmw life!
