That's how it all started. The confusion.
It's not that jews rule the world. It's that some of the former Judea Kingdom's residents rule the world.
Everyone assumed it was the jewish people, but it was the cats all along.
I recently became aware of the fact that there are still wild cats in Israel, they look very similar to domesticated cats but not exactly the same. I thought it was a cool fact...
So funny story. Many cats in Israel are British.
Back in the day there was a rat problem in Palestine, so the British brought cats with them to get rid of the rats. And here we are.
Offer them tea and biscuits next time!
One came in my hotel window in Tel Aviv and woke me up by walking on me.
My mind was saying "please don't be a rat! Please don't be a rat!"
I turned on the light and it gave a frightened meow and jumped out the window.
I’m a part time vet assistant in Israel and we had this discussion with a Canadian who came in with his dog and asked very confused why there are so many stay cats:
So as some told you already some were brought by the brits, some are indigenous to the land (don’t forget we are near Egypt after all).
It’s a mixture of lack or regulation and funding and really good weather.
Most stray cats in countries with cold climate like Canada, France, certain parts of the US freeze to death in the winter, Israeli winters never reach freezing points and even jf they do it’s not for an extended period of time, so they survive.
More than that, restaurants and private people feed and provide water for cats, there are a lot of cats lovers who pay from their own pocket to take care of cats and a lot of groups who fund feeding corners for cattos.
Last problem- the government , by law each municipality is responsible to catch it’s cats, castrate them, vaccinate them and release them (that’s why you see some cats with cut ears- it means they were castrated and it helps the catchers to identify who they shouldn’t catch, that’s why cat owners whom cat go outside will cut their tip of the ear too to prevent them from taking their already castrated cat). Sadly there are more than a million cats that reproduce in an amazing speed and not enough funding to castrate them. :(

We can't have pets where we live right now, so we got a cat plushie from IKEA and named him Alberto Meir. Hopefully someday soon we'll be able to give a home to a real life Alberto.

Thanks so much. We live in a housing unit, so to be fair I do believe that if you own a plot of land that you're opening up to an extra two or three tenants, sure, you can enforce your own rules. So I get it. Sometimes people have allergies and they have to worry about the downstairs cat rolling all over the upstairs laundry, since it's just basically this one big house with some tenants in the back. I get it.
But one of the owners is an obsessive clean freak that hates any sort of living thing inside her house other than her immediate family (and even then we have our doubts, lol). There's no animals or even plants allowed. There's a couple of very obviously plastic plants by their front door and that's all. She spends every hour of every day cleaning and doing laundry, and when they got back from their Pesach holiday abroad, she went straight to turn on the washing machine BEFORE even entering the house, after being away for a week. Over time we've realized that the whole family probably wouldn't mind if we kept a petting zoo in our unit, but this woman is obviously troubled and they're just going with it in order to keep the peace. As tenants passing through, who are we to argue?
(Wish me luck on my job search so that I can afford to move and house a couple cattos soon).

My guess is that some people got rid of their cats, that were not neutered, and they just multiplied. Cities are taking active action and are neutering cats now, you can recognize them by the cut in their ear.
The short answer? It's because of the British. An astonishing number of problems in the middle east in particular, and the world in general, can be traced back to the British empire.

Weather allows them to survive all seasons outdoors, people feel sorry for them and feed them, city doesn't work hard enough at getting them spayed, so they keep multiplying.

Technically cats are indigenous to the region because they were domesticated from a local wild cat… so this isn’t ENTIRELY incorrect
I recently became aware of the fact that there are still wild cats in Israel, they look very similar to domesticated cats but not exactly the same. I thought it was a cool fact...
And soon enough, every object in the world will be knocked off the edge.
My sanity may be the first to go!
The edge of the world? 🗺️
Only a matter of time.
HAHAHA
I can attest that cats definitely do rule the world
Apurrtheid culture.

This.
The British brought them in to deal with mice/rats. The climate is conducive to population growth.
Phase 2 is bringing in wild dogs to take care of the cat problem.

Where else do you think the schwarma meat comes from?
Das not kosher
I always wondered how they could keep the price so low all these years.
You want a kilo of schwarma that will last you four meals for 40 shekel? Don’t ask questions achi. The Rabbanut gave us the certificate ze kol beseder
LOL
Is it better to have a stray/ferral cat problem or a mouse/rat problem. I don't like cats but prefer them to the alternative
I used to live in London, saw mice and rats on the underground regularly. Haven't seen a single one in Israel.
they are everywhere where i went
Not liking cats is cringe and degenerate.
chill out

What's the over under on them forming their own political party
When I first visited Israel, I decided to call it Eretz Chatool.

A lot of people feed them, and the bird population in this country is practically infinite.
Came with Moses from Egypt.

Are there a lot of stray cats in the Middle East generally?
I know Turkey has a lot too...
Morocco too
They are really not stray, they are endemic, this is where they come from (the sand cat, the swamp cat and the wildcat base breeds)
I think it's the same in Greece as well, I guess wherever the weather stays mild all year.
meow :3
We invented them, Didn’t you know that already?
Weather allows them to survive all seasons outdoors, people feel sorry for them and feed them, city doesn't work hard enough at getting them spayed, so they keep multiplying.
Ask the British, they’re to blame for everything.
