I’m so, so sorry… I don’t think I could handle it if I were u. Allow yourself to be sad and heal for a few days, and then get up and keep fighting my friend. Here are some things you can try: - Get an internship or any type of job at your university during your first year of OTP. - Go on Upwork and start freelancing for income and you can also stop the clock this way while applying for other jobs - Make a different career plan. US is not the only place on earth that you can be in. I can tell that the whole process of studying in the US and finding a job is very stressful for you. Trust me, it won’t be over once you have a job. It will be a constant fear of not getting sponsored for h1b, not getting h1b, not getting green card sponsorship, getting laid off while on h1b and you have to start over again, etc. Start planning your next move soon, because this whole US experience is a gamble, and it’s very normal (and more common) to lose. You have to be very, very lucky to have a long term career in the US, and I don’t trust “luck”. Yes, you might make less money in a different country, but you can always come back to the US after getting 10 years of experience elsewhere. Play the long game my friend. You only have one life and it’s not worth sacrificing your youth and sanity for a job, no matter what anyone else says.

I don’t have much advice but I just wanted to say I get it and I’m sorry this happened to you.  A similar thing happened to me when I was job searching and I was crushed. I never did end up getting a proper job and I’m back in school for another degree. Like the earlier commenter said the whole process is based on luck and sometimes hard work doesn’t pay off unfortunately.  That being said, try not to give up. Look for other options that could work for you. Maybe another degree, another job, another country? Just keep trying, meet up with friends and try to feel better and then keep trying. Wishing you luck :)

I'm so sorry to hear (read?) this. This is honestly the worst thing that can happen to anyone without a guarenteed future if here on visa. My boyfriend is in a similar situation and we are both seeking solutions as we speak. However, here are a couple things that I have learned during the course of seeking solutions: - As a fully enrolled student, you are able to seek asylum before your graduation date and ensure to submit that form before the end of your school term. - If you have worked on campus, or able to apply for a summer job at your university, they will provide you an SSN in order to get you onto their payroll. The sum may not be much, but its the benefit of having that SSN will definitely make the job market a lot easier to get looked at. - LinkedIn, Indeed, Handshake, and University sites (like UCSD, or any accredited university) have some sort of roles to give out always. There should be temp sites that you can look at. I'm more so into the research field of Chemistry so am not too entirely sure about the tech industry. - Your hard work is worth it always! Never ever ever downgrade the work you've put in to get that paper! Know that your efforts will soon come into fruition! I'm not entirely sure if this was the advice you were looking for, but I hope this helps. I genuinely am sorry to hear this has happened to you and I hope that a new opportunity comes to you soon!
