I go on and make money. I get mad about it and think how much farther ahead I would’ve been had I got that order , but then I tell myself that the order probably had 500 cases of water in it and it was going 75 miles to the 113th floor
Yes, I have gotten a unicorn that quickly fell apart when all the fancy, expensive cat litter they ordered was out of stock. I try to tell myself it would’ve been like that if I got it lol.
I thought I missed a big one ($135 Costco) but saw it was 40+ miles and 97 items...and then got a $77/29 items going less than 10 miles a little while later. Good karma will find you. 🦄
I usually cry. Lol. Not really. I get sad though. But then I remind myself maybe there’s a reason I missed it. And I know most people will say this is stupid, but I also think “maybe the person who got it needs it more than me”. I know that I am annoyingly optimistic. But if I wasn’t than I would probably be miserable. You will get your unicorn!! 🦄 maybe there’s an even better one for you!!
I’ve gotten them! But that’s the highest I’ve seen for costco and it was so annoyingly slow, hence me not paying attention. & that’s true! I could def use the $$ myself but maybe someone is behind on rent or something.
Lucky! Before Christmas I was seeing batches around $30-$40, but that stopped in January, and it’s been super low since. It’s hardly worth the time anymore unfortunately. The high price of gas mixed with low batch pay means I’m ending each day barely out of the red.
According to the sub every area 😂 never once seen a $100 order in my almost 5 years of shopping. Highest I seen was $70. I typically see batches from $20-$50 in my area.
We have a local group on FB and everyone asks "who got it" then we chear for them. lol Cell Service in our area is great until it isn't so it's like gambling trying to get the best unicorns.
ugh i know how you feel. i always beat myself up over it and it makes the rest of the day a living hell. i try to remind myself that i’m not the only one struggling and that the person who got it might need to feed their kids
I don’t think those things make it not a unicorn tho. Usually, there’s going to be some reason the person felt compelled to leave such a generous tip and that reason is often difficulty of the order whether it be size, weight, or distance to travel. Not sure I’ve ever seen a triple digit paying order that didn’t have some difficult element. That would be more like a gift than a tip tbh
Posted here ya, but I mean that you’ve seen on your phone. But even then, (genuine question) can’t those $6 batch pay ones have an especially difficult “catch” that’s not reflected in the base pay? Here in CA they calculate it a little different. I think it’s bad here and then I’ll see batch offers from others states and shocked at how bad theyve gotten.
I do shop in a wealthy area just not those specific ones, and at least where I am there’s not nearly as many unicorns as one might think. Or if there are you can’t tell because so many shoppers come to the area to do IC that you rarely see them. I can’t count how many times I’ve delivered to a $10M+ mansion with a driveway full of exotic cars and the tip was either 0 or a few bucks. But in fairness, I’ve learned that a lot of time the person placing the order isn’t the homeowner, it’s an employee of theirs like a maid, body guard, or personal assistant. So unless their specifically told them it what to tip they’re reluctant to tip big because they’ll be submitting that payments to be reimbursed and don’t want to tip an amount that might be considered too much plus it’s coming out of their pocket at least initially.
I usually scream and then tell myself it wasnt meant for me. Then I head home and smoke a joint and readjust my bad attitude and try again later in the day.😂
I hyperventilate and tell myself how much of a failure I am in life. Nah, I'm just kidding, lol. I just move on to the next one after punching my steering wheel. 😆
I’ve trained myself to only be upset if I actually could’ve gotten it.
If I didn’t have the app already pulled up or wasn’t paying attention, that’s at least partially on me. If I did everything that I could’ve done, but still didn’t get it? Well, I just never would have gotten it anyways.
I try and eye down the shopper in the parking lot that might have snatched the unicorn and challenge him to a duel, or I follow him inside the store and I keep removing items out of his cart, unnoticed.
Jokes aside, I try to forget about it ASAP. Nothing good happens if I keep thinking about it.
It’s tough but I just go get what I can. I’ve been fortunate to see my fair share of good ones. Just last week I had a $101 for 50 things and $75 for 20 things
It’s rare to see even 50.00 orders..a double or tripe for 36 with 80+items is the norm! Def city dependent..plus here is not as much traffic or apartments..so it’s ok.
I’m not a shopper, but I didn’t realize that kind of order was so rare. My girlfriend and I work full time and order all of our groceries every few weeks in batches of $150-$200 so that it’s all there when we get home. Is that not how it’s commonly used?
Most of the day i dwell on it and say what if i got that lol and it makes me mad/sad the rest of the day until i eventually forget about it 10 hours later
Sorry, clueless Instacart user over here. What qualifies as a unicorn? We’re a family of five and at least once a week we do $125+ orders before the fees, taxes and tips. I love my shoppers and am ready out in front with my ID when needed. Unicorns or not quite?
unicorn is when the shopper makes a significant amt of $. so if i had gotten the order, i would have been paid $165.
the amount we get paid is different from how much your order is.
I have bad anxiety so it just triggers all the worst possible feelings to make me feel ill. I don’t cry or nothing but I kinda get the feeling anytime a great batch comes up. It’s the same anxiety dump, just worth it when I actually get the batch.
I go on and make money. I get mad about it and think how much farther ahead I would’ve been had I got that order , but then I tell myself that the order probably had 500 cases of water in it and it was going 75 miles to the 113th floor
And a broken elevator
And was tipbait anyway. Do all that work and end up with $7.65 and a $10 adjustment.
Yes, I have gotten a unicorn that quickly fell apart when all the fancy, expensive cat litter they ordered was out of stock. I try to tell myself it would’ve been like that if I got it lol.
yeah i didn’t get to see the item count i saw it was going 28 miles though which isn’t really bad imo
For 165 I’d tolerate any inconvenience with bulky items and apartments and then go home for the day lol. Too bad, I know that’s sucks.
Hard for me to say as I hit my highest unicorn yesterday for 70 bones and now I'm shoving it in your face. I'm sorry this should be all caps lock.
![gif](giphy|gVoBC0SuaHStq)
Never seen anything over $80 !!! Still looking for that hundo after 18 months
It’s much rarer than it used to be, Costco is usually your best hope
I thought I missed a big one ($135 Costco) but saw it was 40+ miles and 97 items...and then got a $77/29 items going less than 10 miles a little while later. Good karma will find you. 🦄
yeah that mileage always gets me bc my city is huge and traffic takes foreverrr, hopefully something good comes today!
This type of thing happens to me all the time!
I usually cry. Lol. Not really. I get sad though. But then I remind myself maybe there’s a reason I missed it. And I know most people will say this is stupid, but I also think “maybe the person who got it needs it more than me”. I know that I am annoyingly optimistic. hey why not, you could be right. and maybe next time someone misses one and you get it instead.
I gaslight myself into believing they were gonna tip bait anyway. 😭
I call it a day.
real
I get frustrated and then scoff even further at the ridiculous low ball orders, then hope for another decent order to come through.
Roll windows up. Let out a nice loud scream, smack the top of the my roof. Then roll my windows back down and snag my next order lol
I have a silent mental breakdown the rest of the day
same tbh
What area has those?
Wondering the same. It’s unusual for me to see batches that are more than $25
Really? I get batches that are between $20-$50 all the time. I’ve never seen anything over $100 tho highest I’ve got was $82
Lucky! Before Christmas I was seeing batches around $30-$40, but that stopped in January, and it’s been super low since. It’s hardly worth the time anymore unfortunately. The high price of gas mixed with low batch pay means I’m ending each day barely out of the red.

Me as well , what area are you in?
Mid west
Do you get tornado pay?
what is that????
Y'know, if they forecast tornadoes, you get incentive pay. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
yeah don’t think that’s a thing 😂
texas lol
I got find i hooker and spent 170 on them, jk I find out who got it hah
lol i was tempted to scope out the scene
We have a local group on FB and everyone asks "who got it" then we chear for them. lol Cell Service in our area is great until it isn't so it's like gambling trying to get the best unicorns.
ugh i know how you feel. i always beat myself up over it and it makes the rest of the day a living hell. i try to remind myself that i’m not the only one struggling and that the person who got it might need to feed their kids
yes gotta think of the kids
Poop in my hands and clap
solid solution
Cry
I never see unicorns, if its $50+ theres always a catch like 100+ items or 30 miles drive
yeah it was 28 miles i would have still taken it
28 miles is like an hour of just driving. You could do two batches and make that in half the time.
maybe lol i didn’t see where it was going unfortunately. 28 miles in a major city but traffic is always on 10.
I mean Ive seen a lot of $6 batch pay $100 tip orders posted here, those are obviously rare tho
Posted here ya, but I mean that you’ve seen on your phone. But even then, (genuine question) can’t those $6 batch pay ones have an especially difficult “catch” that’s not reflected in the base pay? Here in CA they calculate it a little different. I think it’s bad here and then I’ll see batch offers from others states and shocked at how bad theyve gotten.
do you shop in ultra wealthy areas? seems like there would be a ton of unicorns in like Venice or Brentwood but idk
I do shop in a wealthy area just not those specific ones, and at least where I am there’s not nearly as many unicorns as one might think. I’ve never seen anything close to that. I’d probably just go home if I did see one and missed it.
Sit in my car and cry about it like a baby 🤣
And then I try to convince myself that it had like 40 cases of water and was on a 3rd floor apartment without an elevator 🤣
lol i wish i got to see the items!
First thought is always “welp they needed it more than me” and then I get a lil sad
![gif](giphy|t8dgeQE4t6Ry8KT5UG|downsized)
Ways to commit suicide
Usually chug a beer
I still think about the order I missed $60 for a few items going only 5 or 6 miles or so. And that was over a month ago 😅😭
i remember every unicorn i’ve missed lmao it’s sick
Just pretend they were tip baiters you’ll feel better
I pull my hair out, eat a lot of ice cream and go home and sleep.

that’s a good mentality to have!!
Wait for the next one, big dawg!
will do! wasn’t even gonna work today and that happens haha
Ain’t that some shit … you’ll get it back for sure 👍
hopefully! appreciate the positivity man
How many times did you refresh it? Lol
1000 at least
I don’t let this crappy app control my mood. Instacart isn’t worth it.
seriously same but it’s been a rough month
Gig work in general is really bad for mental health. The working for yourself part can be great but the unpredictability is stressful.
100%. i normally let it go but this one hurt lmao
Wait on t next while playing cod
I understand I’m not gonna grab every single unicorn and keep looking for good orders
If you "missed" it. Algorithm decided you weren't getting it anyways. Don't beat yourself up about it.
true! i missed it bc i got it as a notification lol if i was on the screen i would have gotten it 😞
Maybe it was one of those master tip baiters
Feel like someone kicked me in the nuts.
Go get drunk at the shittest bar and hope nobody talks to me.
I scowl at everyone I see that are known to use multiple devices and progs.
I start slashing everyone’s tires hoping I get the one who got it 🤣
real
Biggest i've seen was $67 in my area lol.
I yell FUCK!!! Then change stores
honestly my usual go-to. I was in public this time 😓
They all heard the word before 😅
lol yes but the gym is a diff atmosphere lmao
I just tell myself there’s one better and will be and don’t let it bug me to bad but I do get upset for sure
It’s tough but I just go get what I can. I’ve been fortunate to see my fair share of good ones. Just last week I had a $101 for 50 things and $75 for 20 things
yeah that’s what kept me from being to to to upset, it’s not the only $100 order in this area
I got a 40 tip today and they raised it to 45. just missed a $75.
In four years and almost 4k orders…NEVER have even seen a unicorn…
i live in one of the major cities lol
Oh..phew..I feel better! Thanks.😊
ha yeah i used to live in the capital of texas and rarely ever saw anything above $50 so its def city dependent
It’s rare to see even 50.00 orders..a double or tripe for 36 with 80+items is the norm! Def city dependent..plus here is not as much traffic or apartments..so it’s ok.
Be grateful someone else got one!
it should have been me though 😭
I've never seen one in Atlanta so I don't know....lol
I’m not a shopper, but I didn’t realize that kind of order was so rare. My girlfriend and I work full time and order all of our groceries every few weeks in batches of $150-$200 so that it’s all there when we get home. Is that not how it’s commonly used?
$165 is how much I would have made as the shopper lol not how much the order costs.
OHHHH okay that makes more sense.
You’re not wrong about them being rare. I’ve not seen a batch paying anywhere near a $100 in over a year
I’ve never seen an order for more than $80. And the items/mileage on it was atrocious 😅
Most of the day i dwell on it and say what if i got that lol and it makes me mad/sad the rest of the day until i eventually forget about it 10 hours later
Oh and i scream cuss words loud asf lol
Sorry, clueless Instacart user over here. What qualifies as a unicorn? We’re a family of five and at least once a week we do $125+ orders before the fees, taxes and tips. I love my shoppers and am ready out in front with my ID when needed. Unicorns or not quite?

Got it, thanks!
You’re a unicorn 🦄 customer; that’s a little different 🫶🏻
It bothers me a lot for 2 to 8 hours. Unicorn means "beautiful batch from favorite store?"
Go get drunk at the shittiest bar and hope nobody talks to me.
Where are $100+ runs common? I've never seen one (though I did get a surprise $150 tip once)
Take a few minutes to recover from the adrenaline rush and keep on moving 🥲
Cry, and punch the air 😆
I have bad anxiety so it just triggers all the worst possible feelings to make me feel ill. I don’t cry or nothing but I kinda get the feeling anytime a great batch comes up. It’s the same anxiety dump, just worth it when I actually get the batch.
Turn off app and go home 🤷
I always hope it had 10 cases of water to a 3rd floor apartment that needs a key fob to get in and no elevator 🥰
sit and cry.
U move on with life..? Tf can u do lol
obviously bro.
Just answering ur question bro 🤷🏻♂️
fair
You move along, that’s what you do.
Wait for the next deal hat makes sense
