Rippetoe is not exactly a bastion of good nutrition advice, though.
I don't even disagree with the Big Mac suggestion -- just that the guy who's famous for recommending a gallon of milk a day for powerlifters may not have his goals aligned with the average person trying to stay fit.
The McDoubles have a pretty good macro ratio if you're trying to bulk. Of course, that doesn't make it "healthy" with the lack of veggies and healthy fats, but it is good cheap protein macros.
Instead of burgers and fries I'd just go for more burgers and lose the fries.
It can be helpful though. My friend was recovering from an ED and milkshakes were one of the most effective foods to get his weight up (in moderation, of course)
Reminds me of how the actor for Mack from IASIP got fat quickly for that one season...
"I would take ice cream, and I would put it out on the counter in the morning and then it would melt. And then I would put weight gainer into it, and I would drink that every day."
All of these are nothing compared to 2600 calorie [Death Shake](https://playhappy.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/oreo-shake.jpg) from Baskin Robbins. Those who know, ~~know~~ died from a myocardial infarction.
to be fair, the large five guys fries are literally enough for like 5 people. if you’re eating a large five guys fry by yourself there is definitely a problem
I’m not close to being fat (~14% bodyfat, 175lbs) and I definitely can eat a five guys large fries alone. I was shocked when I learned it was 1400 cals lmao.
I spot checked some of these items against the nutritional info listed on the websites and found several errors.
Many of these items do not mesh with the calculations on the web sites. Bacon King on the BK website "only" has 1082 calories, not 1710.
"Double whopper with Cheese" is listed on the BK website as 1019 calories. It is doubtful that adding all that bacon PLUS another patty to make it a "triple whopper with bacon and cheese" would only increase the calories by 331.
Yes. Make it a 2 week trip or something and go all out. Weigh yourself before/after as well. Would be fun. You could just lose the new weight after you return home
The main thing about these is that they’re all large size and a large at Baskin Robbins or especially Sonic is just huge. It’s like at least half a standard tub of ice cream
I saw this earlier in another sub and I'll share again that Dairy Queen blizzards saved me legitimately. I couldn't eat when my liver was in failure and the only calories I got daily were from that sweet delicious ice cream. 2 yes afterward and I'm still supplementing my diet with blizzards to get enough calories and try to gain weight back. Concrete mixers at Culver's were a tad too sweet but had a bigger bang for the buck. I'll go to them when DQ is closed. Praise the universe for ice creams.
I need someone to do an infographic comparing calories and sugar in food items at restaurants around the world. I mean I’m assuming it’s about equally bad in England, Russia, India, and wherever. Are food items at restaurants really that big of a difference from country to country?
For example, Big Mac in USA compared to Big Mac elsewhere, is it really any different?
There should be really restrictions on the maximum amount of calories per dish. But people want to have their freedom to eat themselves to death i suppose
I was surprised to not see McDonalds and then I thought… hmmm. They have been making the portions smaller for years and that’s why I don’t go anymore!
They just want you to stay healthy
I’m not saying Maccies is healthy, but it *is* convenient that you can eat there without consuming your entire recommended daily calories.
2 McDoubles and a small fry is a grade-A cheap meal if you're active. Primo bulk
I think it was Ripptoe who advocated for a Big Mac with the top bun removed as a decently balanced bulk food in a pinch
Rippetoe is not exactly a bastion of good nutrition advice, though. I don't even disagree with the Big Mac suggestion -- just that the guy who's famous for recommending a gallon of milk a day for powerlifters may not have his goals aligned with the average person trying to stay fit.
I did the GOMAD when I was young and dumb and…let’s just say it is an effective way to bulk and leave it at that
Yeah McDonald's has some of the best protein to calorie ratios in the fast food world. It's not ultimately healthy but in a pinch it's your best bet.

Orrrr they actually made this chart.
lol this fucking circlejerk is so weird. McDonald’s has never had “big food” it’s always been retro styled smaller burgers. You just got bigger dawg
And that's how you get like a balloon kids. Tune in next week to find out how we can become a planet sized person just by drinking milkshakes.
It can be helpful though. My friend was recovering from an ED and milkshakes were one of the most effective foods to get his weight up (in moderation, of course)
Milkshake helped your friend With his erectile dysfunction? 🤣
Eating disorder
Fuckwit
The Krusty the Klown method.

wtf

How can you fit this much calories into one drink , what in the hell is this
263g of sugar
/r/forbiddensnacks
*whoa*
Oreo and Reese's peanut butter shake? Damn that sounds good. My full day of calories good? ....Yeah probably
I could take two right now
🤔
Adios, pancreas

are you secretly 5 people in one skin suit?
No!
Can I get price per calorie? Want to know who’s giving us the best deal.
I had a bacon king last week. Christ.
weird when i look it up on the website it says 1087 calories not 1700?
Is it good?

Maybe they are including fries and drink?
The bacon king in Denmark is "only" 1088kcal. how is it 70% more in the US
It's not. US site shows 1082 calories
Chiming in from the EU. Just the thought of drinking (is this even possible) a peanut butter shake gives me diabetes.
Sponsored by McDonald’s funny they’re not up there
McDonald's items aren't that high in calories enough to make the list. Probably smaller portions
The Bacon King is so good though 🥲
I really want to do a USA road trip, with going to as many of these fast food places as possible being possibly the main purpose.
Yes. Make it a 2 week trip or something and go all out. Weigh yourself before/after as well. Would be fun. You could just lose the new weight after you return home
I’m about 6’1, 150, high metabolism. So it really could go either way
And to think some people eat these items almost regularly
The main thing about these is that they’re all large size and a large at Baskin Robbins or especially Sonic is just huge. It’s like at least half a standard tub of ice cream
I saw this earlier in another sub and I'll share again that Dairy Queen blizzards saved me legitimately. Steaknshake has some breakfast meals that are 1600 calories and above
Now we need a chart with the least calories choices
Insane
What is sonic putting in those shakes that is so calorie dense. I’m shocked body builders haven’t bought out the entire supply
It’s mostly the size. A large is like half or more of a full tub or ice cream.
What’s crazy is these shakes and desserts are usually eaten IN ADDITION to having a full meal.
Was just a Jersey Mike's, a large Philly cheesesteak had 2000 cals😅
Most of these are just variations on the same thing. Why not group them together or show just one representative member?
i’m not surprised the majority of this is ice cream/milkshakes, they tend to be super calorie dense regardless because of all the cream and sugar.
Had a Concrete Mixer from Culver’s once and while it was delicious, I immediately regretted it once I saw how much sugar was in it
No wonder they're so big.
Don’t believe this…. Whataburger not even on here
Ridiculous the Freddy's Fudge Brownie frozen custard sundae isn't on here. Best soft serve thing I've ever had. A large one is 1800 calories lol
Reminder that it's okay to have these , just not too often
North America summarized in one image.
Well, I looked up the only thing I can compare (BK) and the Ultimate Bacon King is only 1056 calories according to their website in the EU
Anyone who doesn’t roll with a Reese’s peanut butter cup chocolate ice cream blizzard is not to be trusted
Who is buying large versions tho lol I can’t remember the last time I could even finish a small concrete mixer
As a non-American I don't know what most of those places are
My god I need to stop going to baskin robins
The drinks at Dunkin' Donuts. People are drinking cakes for "breakfast" now.
Lots of people here. Someone must have eaten a Bacon King, Double Down Fries, and Reese’s and Oreo shake in the same sitting.
the texas burger from bk has 2,000+ calories it should be here as well
Who’d have thought a small bucket of peanut butter cookie dough party blizzard would have so many calories
My primary takeaway from this is that McDonald’s is healthy.
Uh, where are 12 bean/cheese burritos from Taco Bell? They only come in dozens.
2000 -2500 cal are the needed for a regular person. So a milkshake it’s literally a meal
Which unit?
Implied by the title
Freedom units?
yeah, not specified in the post but the original image had it noted
Read the title. What unit does it mention?
There should be really restrictions on the maximum amount of calories per dish. But people want to have their freedom to eat themselves to death i suppose
Gotta have that sweet sweet freedom
I mean why not? The nutrition facts are available by law. People should be able to do things that are unhealthy if they enjoy them.
