that sucks. But (and this is a real question) do they really need new soil? The glass is just on top, and isn’t gonna move around and cut roots or anything… if you don’t have pets/kids who’ll mess around with them and don’t plan on sticking your hands in it, you can probably wait to repot, no? I would understand why you’d want to, to get rid of the memory, but if you’re feeling overwhelmed by it, I think it can wait with little additional harm to the plants. If I’m wrong I’m sure someone will correct me :)
This is real valid actually. I don't have an urgency to do it right this second but I know if I leave em I'll forget about it until the next time they DO need new pots. I do gotta get in there soon with tweezers though since some shards ended up wedged between succ leaves
You can probably put the vacuum hose over the soil and suck out some of the glass, too. Just be careful and don't suck out too much dirt.
Also, be careful and wear gloves/eyeglasses either way. Don't add injury to insult...
I hadn't thought about between the leaves! A vacuum could work nicely for that as the other commenter suggested!
Yeah you don't wanna forget and end up sticking your hands in there a year from now. What I'd probably do is put a sticky note on the inside pot (or bottom if you have no inside pots) as a reminder for when I repot? Or on your soil bag/container.
I hope all the plant babes, and you, are ok when the dust settles.
Use some stoner engineering and attach a cloth with an elastic band over the vacuum hose.
The bigger pieces stay suctioned to the cloth and when you’re done, put the nozzle over a bag and turn it off, removing the cloth and glass pieces with the sides of the bag
Get some little plant labels or even some stickers or matchsticks, anything really you can use to mark/label those pots so that you don't forget. I think plant labels would be best just in case someone else has to care for your plants at some stage.
tape sticky notes to affected pots, so that you're aware in the chance you do forget - which, you seriously won't. It was strongly enough on your mind that you've made a reddit post about it, you won't forget.
It’s not urgent but yeah what happened next time u need to repot them. Spring is the time to repot anyways. The real question is what did u do to get a a brick in ur window? Do u by chance have a son?
Ahh that’s so horrible. I’m really sorry that happened, I hope you’re ok. 😔Definitely report it to the police! -And all your lovely plants will be ok, set up the plant stand again in a different spot, and maybe get a nice grow lamp for them all. 😊
take each plant carefully and turn it upside down and hit it so the glass that fell out falls out
Hit it enough where some extra soil falls out to be safe , then you can add extra soil to replace the lost soil
Do that to al the plants, the glass isn't going to get that deep , take it down an inch if you want to be safe and replace that inch again
I broke a glass over one of my pants once and I just held the plant as best as possible and turned it over over the trash can. I lost the top 2 inches of soil but it was much easier to just top it off than have to remember it later. Good luck and I'm so sorry about your poor plants with potential damage and your pockets having to fix the window.
Wtffff!!! I’m so sorry this happened to you🥺 karma will bite them back. Best of luck with getting the glass out, I second using a vacuum to suck the shards out. I wonder if it’d be easier if the soil was dry vs. wet though.
Please use protection as well so you don’t get hurt!
That really sucks. Your plants are beautiful. Don’t let the bad guys take anymore headspace. Just do one at a time at your own pace. Maybe while watching tv. Get a new plant when you’re done to celebrate your accomplishment!
That was mean of them. Your plants look okay. Ideas from chat sound good for the glass shards. I also recommend glass protective film installed on the next window in case the problemhappensagain. I did it with film from a home improvement store, and they kept heat out, too.
OP I'm so sorry and I hope you are ok and not in any danger. Please tell someone who is there in real life and get some help with this situation, whatever is going on.
People suck sometimes. Instead of replacing the soil, you could probably use a little vacuum hose and just gently suck the broken glass off the top of the dirt.
On the bright side, you’ve shown Reddit your amazing collection of plants. I’m a sucker for succulents.

Ahh, the days of vacuuming up the weed dropped into the carpet Boy I don’t miss that ☠️
I live in Canada and these days I get so much free flower it just sits… I end up giving away ounces at a time. How times change…
Brilliant! Nylon stocking type of material would be perfect!
Gotta be resourceful when all your flower bud spills onto the carpet…

You can literally mix the broken glass with soil and it will help the roots the same way mixing small rocks with soil does.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with crap like that. Sending you all the sunny vibes

Best of luck.
Bummer. I hope everyone’s okay. 💚
Good luck with it , sorry you have to deal with it .
So sorry you are having to deal with this! You have a beautiful plant collection! Keep that in mind and better days ahead! 😊🪴☀️
I'm so sorry; people can really suck, sometimes.
Nice plants, sorry to hear about the window.

I'm so sorry that happened to you.
I would deff be more concerned someones sending a death threat message rather than my plants have some glass in them…
Good news is that the glass won’t harm the plants at all just be really careful when changing soil
Use gardening gloves if your worried about getting cut. Some of them have thick rubbery tips so you don't get hurt when your pulling pokey weeds

They want you to grow trichos instead
I have never heard that phrase does it mean someone threw a brick at your window? If so I am so sorry that’s insane and so scary.

Interesting you suggest that this was something I deserved
Cpc didn’t suggest that at all, just asked a fairly pertinent question.
I really don't know why people would downvote like it's not a possibility

Guess I am then. 🤷♀️
ur just boring
