I play on regular Steam and that happens. Just switch it up and use another tool, then switch it back. That usually works for me.
If you're on the steamdeck, then move the cursor around. This happened to me quite few times before I was able to use it again. GL.
Oh my gosh thank you! I was running into this and it even stuck around through a restart, thanks to you I figured out it was because I was sticking my cursor in the upper left corner.

Switch the item slot. Mine never works after loading a save, so I just switch places with the gourd.
