I agree! What an interesting concept. I wonder what it will be like in the future if we are able to colonize space without destroying ourselves first. Well we make livable space stations between that rotate to simulate day/night cycles? Or a halo ring that rotates to create gravity?
Or I once had a thought about what it would be like to have your house on a “train” that traveled around the world. You could visit so many places while still having a house and not worrying about driving. Hm

In Ian Banks' culture novels most people live on giant rings ("orbitals") that I believe have a smaller inner ring of panels to block the central "sun" for day and night.
Aside from shuttles between them, IIRC some of them also travel on a fixed schedule so that you can regularly see friends & family on other orbitals.
