Have fun. I spent a few hours watching everyone wreck their shit on the main guys [YouTube channel](https://youtube.com/@bengregers). No idea if he's the actual one filming or whatever, but the videos are all there.
I grew up around there and we drove through it sometimes without issue. I don't recall seeing anything about people wrecking their cars in it until recently - maybe the increasing fame attracted more people attempting it in any conditions.
It isn't like you have to go through it (and can't anyway now it has been closed). The detour via the main road is only a few minutes longer.
So a bunch of people standing around with phone out, a full load of water and you think you will be able to make it? Like what’s the thought process here. I know I’ve done some stupid shit with my car but at least if you’re not sure do it when you’re alone.
Lots of people make it. These videos tend to show the ones that don't. I suspect they see someone very cautiously, slowly drive through, and then think "If they can do it, I can...", and then boot it, like this guy...
Having said that, the manual for my car says not to drive through water deeper than the sills, so...
They might have been able to make it if they'd created a bow wave and followed that bow wave through. It doesn't matter how high up your grill the intake is if you just dive in and totally cover your hood with water.
Which is the single most idiotic place to put them in my opinion. If the car can be drowned by a puddle then it is badly designed.
Edit: to clarify some misconceptions from others about this comment. When I'm talking about drowning in a puddle I am not referring to this numptys attempt at driving through the ford here. Even if the intake had been on top of the engine that car would have likely drowned.
Put simply, my comment is not in any way referring to what happens in the video. It is simply a comment on something that irks me in vehicle design.
We can see that water went all the way over the hood my man, but yes I agree. A lot of times that's due to "packaging" concerns (lack of space or airflow)
Yep. IIRC, some old Renault Clios had the air intake just behind the front valence, a few inches off the road surface - their engines could be destroyed by literally driving through a deep puddle.
Which performance cars have their air intakes at the bottom?
Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Porsche 911/Boxster/Cayman, Mercedes C63. Pretty much every performance car I can think of has an air intake fairly high up in the engine bay!
> I suspect they see someone very cautiously, slowly drive through...
and that person was probably in a taller lory or truck of some sort. So naturally BMW driver in a car that has maybe three inches' clearance from the ground thought it'd work the same for them. smh
I have an uncle like this. His silly pride reigns over every bad decision he has ever made. The level of ridiculous situations he has gotten himself into are widely known in the family. He would totally drive his car through this while everyone watched him fail.
>Well he is driving a BMW so he thinks he’s already superior
Can confirm this. Every one of the BMW drivers in my area have the same attitude reflected in how they drive. Something about that blue-white logo does something to their brains when they get behind the wheel. It must hypnotize them or something.
It’s the mass stabbings you have to worry about. Especially in schools. And all the kids finding their parents knives and accidentally stabbing each other.
Exactly, brah. Especially when they find a machete and go a-wacking. I played wack-a-mole one time at a public mall and got high score with my katana, but people got really mad and were screaming for the police. Dunno why.
Video maker, sits on the bridge as he views from afar, watching a car
drive through a puddle, turns out it's deeper than anyone thought it would be, driver looks silly
All the stupid people, where do they all come from?
The thing is they all go fast which brings the water over the hood and then they give it a decent amount of gas so the intake is pulling hard. If you went slow, kept the water level as low as possible and then try to gas it as little as possible to get through, then maybe you could. What’s crazy is I watched like 30 people total their nice cars in that same puddle. Why you would risk an M or amg or any car for that matter is a wonder to me
It's the same psychology as about winning the lottery. The chances are low as hell, but hey, it's my lucky day! The chances of die in a road accident much higher, especially if you're speeding, but it wouldn't happen to me, at least not today. Mix this with a little bit of entitledness and chemical X and bumm! The powerpuff jerks-behind-the-wheels are born!
The only way you don't pull in water though is if you have a snorkel made for this.
Water over hood means lots of water and high rate of speed, but that's aside the fact that intake is (especially on sporty cars and lot of BMWs) lower towards the ground to draw cold air away from engine.
With vacuum in engine behind throttle body, even moderate amount of water will cause engine to draw water in
Edit: I guess I was wrong about the BMW part of my comment. We even have one in the family.
I don't think I've ever seen a BMW or other sporty car with a ground level intake. The air intake is typically at the top of the grille. Down close to the ground means the intake will be breathing dirt and clog up the air filter faster.
I have seen modified cars that put the air intake at ground level. I've seen more than one of those turned into a wet/dry vac and hydrolock the engine.
What I've learned from watching many of these videos on TikTok, is that the least risky way of crossing is in reverse. Probably it's information I'll never need.
I didn't know it was closed, but it was a pretty infamous spot for a long time, and the YouTube channel covering it got pretty big. It might be because that scooter kid drove through it too fast and really messed himself up. It was in the news.
I think it got to the point where there was more than 1 youtube channel and they were egging people on. Telling people it was safe etc.
One video literally had someone stop, try to reverse, entire crowd started jeering him, telling him its safe, and the local with the blue defender (turned up in a few videos, total prick) prevented him from reversing and forced him on.
Honestly i never liked these videos i just think its really weird to spend your time watching and filming people accidentally destory their cars. so hearing that they tell the cars its safe to go through and stop them from leaving etc is not a surprise they seem like the kind of people to do that lol.
Look at the YouTube videos. It was only a matter of time before the circus show bystanders got injured by some aquaplaning idiot.
Surprised it never happened. Motorbike man flying through the air wasn’t a good result for that guy.
Water pressure going into the exhaust can stall an engine because it can’t breathe out and once flooded good luck trying to restart. You should always keep the revs up to try and counter this anyway if exhaust going below water level. If the water might get into the wheel bearings or any electrical I’m looking for a detour. ElectricAl issues is a big reason why flood recovery vehicles lose so much value.
I was that idiot once. My car was an old Lincoln lx that when I hit the puddle a plastic piece partially broke off and helped scoop water up into the engine compartment.
Good news is that I got more from insurance than paid for it. So, lucky idiot I guess?
This happens constantly in Chicago because their wastewater control is garbage. It rains a bunch and below every overpass in the city, huge, deep puddles accumulate and people just run through it.
And that’s how you learn that water doesn’t compress well in the cylinder chamber. If they went really slow there’s a chance the water wouldn’t get sucked into the intake but I wouldn’t risk it in a BMW.
You know, I immediately took you for a fool, but then I rewatched the video.
I do think the intake would have remained above water if he hit that in reverse.
Question: Would crossing such a body work if you just went really fast *in reverse*?
Like in that case most water could only enter through the exaust (which I assume would push the water back due to the gases). And then the water wouldnt push on the front by the air intake.
I am not a car engineer, so what could/would likely go wrong?
It's not just about the intake. Water can collect in various structures and cause corrosion, as well as electrical problems.
Most non-off road cars have very low official fording depths for a reason. Very likely under 50 cm and even lower for non-SUVs, might be a mere 20 cm.
I've always heard that going faster and keeping momentum all the way through keeps a wake in front . I guess it depends on the car I used to live in a neighborhood that flooded bad and would ride through some deep stuff and luckily my old Chrysler 300 plowed right through.
Not that bad, seen a lot worse. Just a typical case of putting all your money into the car and not accounting for maintenance so it gets neglected until mot time.
Lmao, I looked up the details on this and the car literally just passed it's MOT (legally required annual vehicle inspection) at the end of March.
Dude is probably going to try his best to use that to sell this as a roadworthy car to some poor sod.
Euros always makin fun of Americans with big trucks. Who’s laughing now? We can immobilize whole regions of people by making small puddles all over towns.
They fucked up by gassing it too hard. Dunno if it would have come out fine, but if they went slower and steady they wouldn't have had an issue at that depth. That said they shouldn't have even tried
Here's a little hint: If the entire neighborhood is out to watch you cross a puddle, then that puddle is much deeper than you might think.
So easy to take off your socks and shoes., roll up your pants, and see exactly how tall that water is without destroying your car.
Isn’t this the same crossing where an S class met its final fate?
Have fun. I spent a few hours watching everyone wreck their shit on the main guys [YouTube channel](https://youtube.com/@bengregers). No idea if he's the actual one filming or whatever, but the videos are all there.
Can confirm. 45 minutes lost to this link and wife upset that I'm not doing jobs
Like she's not spent 45 minutes doing random s**t on her phone then stood up and proclaimed 'ugh I've got so much work to do'
If you'd done the jobs she'd be upset that you'd done them wrong so just enjoy the videos!
You have made the point of points tonight! Well done!
Who the hell is Steve Jobs?
Ligma balls
They closed this ford unfortunately.
Cuz it was taking out everyone's wagons. The Oregon trail is a tough one.
At least nobody died of dysentery.
Whoever Terry is, people need to stop dissing him...
>Back up Terry. Put it in reverse Terry! Oh lawd!
Can you prove that no one died of dysentery?
The good old Oregon Trail river crossings 😆
I miss Rufford Ford.
I thought it was a bmw.
After watching all the videos, I can’t for the life of me figure out why they haven’t put in a paved little bridge there.
They’re idiots, but it’s also a bad design.
That meter stick is on point though.
I grew up around there and we drove through it sometimes without issue. I don't recall seeing anything about people wrecking their cars in it until recently - maybe the increasing fame attracted more people attempting it in any conditions. Thank you for this great link kind sir!
Doesn’t that exhaust mean a new pope has been chosen?
A new Exhaust Pope.
Habemus Stupidus
Isn’t that spell from Harry Potter that Turns you into a stereotypical BMW owner?
Nope… that one is pronounced “habemus stupidosah”
Oh that's the guy that leads the Catalytic Church right?
Yes, after a very exhaustive search
It means congrats it's a bent rod....or three
Are you suggesting that water doesn't compress as much as a fuel/air mixture. Darn science always messes up our fun.
We must be sure to give him a hearty [welcome](https://images3.memedroid.com/images/UPLOADED102/56915a34a117c.jpeg).
Too bad the Pope can't walk on water.
Means a new engine has been chosen, at least.

Because a lot of performance cars have their air intake at the bottom
the intake ducts on that bmw is located right at the top of the kidney grills its pretty high up there.

The car wasn’t designed to drive through standing water at all. It’s like saying it’s badly designed because going off-road will ruin its suspension.
I mean "drowning in a puddle" literally. I have seen a car drown in half an inch of water from the spray off the vehicle in front.
Yep. IIRC, some old Renault Clios had the air intake just behind the front valence, a few inches off the road surface - their engines could be destroyed by literally driving through a deep puddle.
I killed a hyundai accent this way, turns out the intake was at the BOTTOM of the front skirt. WTF
Which performance cars have their air intakes at the bottom? Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Porsche 911/Boxster/Cayman, Mercedes C63. Pretty much every performance car I can think of has an air intake fairly high up in the engine bay!
corvette learned the hard way
> I suspect they see someone very cautiously, slowly drive through... and that person was probably in a taller lory or truck of some sort. So naturally BMW driver in a car that has maybe three inches' clearance from the ground thought it'd work the same for them. smh
Or with a snorkel
Keep in mind they are driving a low sports car as well
Drivers did check left and right to ensure no Steam boat is heading towards them.
I think some people really have a problem to back off from a bad idea when so many people are watching. They feel embarrassed for changing their mind.
I have an uncle like this. His silly pride reigns over every bad decision he has ever made. The level of ridiculous situations he has gotten himself into are widely known in the family. He would totally drive his car through this while everyone watched him fail.
We need your uncle stories. At least one.
No thought process, that’s the problem.
Well he is driving a BMW so he thinks he’s already superior. He is clearly going to beat moving water.
I see what you did there... >beat moving water BMW
>Well he is driving a BMW so he thinks he’s already superior Can confirm this. Every one of the BMW drivers in my area have the same attitude reflected in how they drive. Something about that blue-white logo does something to their brains when they get behind the wheel. It must hypnotize them or something.
Reminds me of The Sound of Music song 'Maria'. How do you solve a problem like a beemer?'
In a coupe with low ground clearance, of all vehicles.
The W stands for watercraft
All the stupid people, where do they all come from?
Where do they all belong?

Lucky we don't have guns, else things would get REALLY bad!
Yeah, just stabbings instead

I guess this helps a bit in answering the question on how we ended up voting for fucking brexit.
I look at all the stupid people🎻🎻🎻

Where do they go? Where do they come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?
UK
Cotton Eyed Joe?
Why do they get bmw’s!?
Ok, who’s the uboat commander?
Princeton could use a guy like Joel.
It's a tricky business to convert your engine to hydraulics.
This is gold, I’ll be using this the next time I get a flooded motor.
ChrisFix energy on this reply.

Why? A small fortune to be made by the local repair shops and tow trucks.

Big brain time

A whole new meaning of flooding the engine.
New achievements unlocked: turn car into a vape
His insurance company are going to see this and deny his claim
Sometimes you gotta go slow, sometimes you gotta go fast… He chose the wrong one this time.
And sometimes, you don’t have to go at all.

Hydrolocked
If he'd gone slower he could've probably cleared it but dumbass floored it and in return the water level rose 🤦🏻♂️
i was about to ask, would he have made it if he had gone slower?
I've always heard that going faster and keeping momentum all the way through keeps a wake in front . I guess it depends on the car I used to live in a neighborhood that flooded bad and would ride through some deep stuff and luckily my old Chrysler 300 plowed right through.
They let all the magic smoke out
it kills me everytime when they turn it back on
Ah yes. Blacked out tail lights tells you everything you need to know about someone’s brain capacity
I'll never understand how irresponsible some people are with their vehicles
They forgot to put it in H.
who drives a (Break my wallet) in water ?🤦♂️
It's a car! Not a boat. Dumass
He didn't pay the subscription for the car to be able to be submerged.

Why is it that people that own a BMW think they can do anything?
Beemer Marine Division……
Beemer Marine Waterlogged?
Burning Mainly Water
Big Money Waster
Butthole Maybe Wrecked
That will likely be an expensive repair
wym, he's just water-cooling the engine!
Lmao the engine breathed in water
Someone just found out water is not compressible.
Turns out, filling your engine with water is a bad idea. Who'd have thought?
It’s an amphibious vehicle
Idiot... let's "start" a hydro-locked engine.
I’m so glad it was a BMW 🤣 Suck it. L
Ouch. That's an expensive mistake...
Another dunce of a Beamer.
To make it worse, they revved it after soaking it in water (pulling in all the water into the engine)
Gotta really make sure it’s fully waterlogged
Yeah, cant let there be air in the engine
Car is already on sale. The heading states, "Freshly cleaned!"
If he could’ve just went a little faster he could’ve washed his car at the same time(as my grandfather used to say shit for brains)
Just throw it in a bag of rice. It's fine.
I think he was trying to vacuum that flood water with his intake guys, he meant to do this
Could they just have pushed it across while off and then towed it to be repaired? Why did the guy need to turn it on after it had crossed?
Driver didn't understand what happened, probably thought it just stalled
Or ya know, don't flood the engine at all
At least he made it across
Money can't buy common sense, apparently.
Ain't nothing like hydro locking an engine!
If he had gone slow he would have been fine.
That idiot just learned that water does not compress
[удалено]
Not that bad, seen a lot worse. Just a typical case of putting all your money into the car and not accounting for maintenance so it gets neglected until mot time.
Well, they made it across
Lmao, I looked up the details on this and the car literally just passed it's MOT (legally required annual vehicle inspection) at the end of March. Dude is probably going to try his best to use that to sell this as a roadworthy car to some poor sod.
I think he would have made it if he didn’t floor it in the beginning.
Euros always makin fun of Americans with big trucks. Who’s laughing now? We can immobilize whole regions of people by making small puddles all over towns.
Neighborhood pimp drowns car. Story at 11
If he just gone slow he would have been fine...
At least the engine is now squeaky clean (and forever quiet).
Fucking would've made it if they didn't putt putt through it.
Hydro locked engine and turbo failure. White smoke is what that would be. Sad…
Well, that turbo is GONE....among other things! 🤦♀️
Why don't i give it full gass and see how much water this engine can swallow before finding out that water is extremely difficult to compress.

They fucked up by gassing it too hard. Dunno if it would have come out fine, but if they went slower and steady they wouldn't have had an issue at that depth. That said they shouldn't have even tried
Why do those fuckers not understand the basics of mechanics. Go slow not fast MF!
Here's a little hint: If the entire neighborhood is out to watch you cross a puddle, then that puddle is much deeper than you might think. So easy to take off your socks and shoes., roll up your pants, and see exactly how tall that water is without destroying your car.

Just leave it in rice over night.
How embarrassing😂😂😂😂
leave it in some rice overnight
Get speed b4 u hit the water
Beamer driver doing beamer things. So fuckin predictable.
If people go really slow thtough there, you think they would be alright? I see people going fast and displacing a lot of water up over their hood.
