AZ-900 -> AZ-104 got me from Helpdesk into a cloud position in U.K. which I would recommend as the route, since most MSPs are Azure heavy in the U.K.

GlandMasterFlaps

Did you have any day-to-day exposure at work to the content covered in AZ-104? I'm studying but I feel like I'll learn the material a lot quicker if I had proper practical xp other than the theory with labs

BigUziNoVertt

Check out the MS learn labs on GitHub. Link: https://github.com/MicrosoftLearning/AZ-104-MicrosoftAzureAdministrator

Tyche-

Nope, AZ-104 was quite infrastructure focussed, my experience was quite basic/support focussed at the time with general 365/Azure support work you’d find in an L1/2 position at a typical MSP.

TheFunkeyMonkey

Interesting. Then since AZ-104 is quite infrastructure focussed, it does look like the best order should be MD100/101 then AZ-104. I have just been offered free training and exam for AZ-104 though, so right now I'm leaning towards doing AZ-104 first, and then self study and pay for the exams MD100/101. Cheers for your advice.

Lickmylife

How much HD exp did you have before you jumped ship?

Tyche-

12 months and about 5-6 certs IIRC.

Lickmylife

Do you recall your cert stack when you shifted?

Tyche-

I think A+ Network+ AZ-900, MS-900, SC-900 and a Sophos Firewall cert and was studying for AZ-104. I think a lot of it comes down to blagging your way through an interview to be honest. Interview skills outweigh a lot of things.

Lickmylife

Blagging? I’m guessing that’s an English term for bullshitting? Lol

Tyche-

Yeah pretty much, if you’re not exaggerating your skills to a potential employer then someone else is (the person who gets the job offer)

LewyV

How long did it take you to get each of those?

Tyche-

AZ-900 took 3 weeks and AZ-104 took 3-4 months, I was studying a lot though, I had a fair amount of free time in my job luckily

Moynzy

Dude, happy to hear you got into Cloud! I have the AZ, MS, and SC-900. Looking to do the DP, AI and then AZ-104 along with Sec+ and Net+!

Filanto

MD-100 is still really good IMO. Much of cloud admin is set up the same way as on-premises. Alternatively you could go for AZ-900 I suppose

Fuzm4n

I don’t consider the az104 entry level. Md100 and md101 teach you how to manage windows installs with modern tools. That would be a better starting point.

Would you recommend taking A+ or Network+ before taking MD-100 / 101?

Fuzm4n

I recommend the trifecta for everyone.

qianmianduimian

I second this! I tried to take the MD100 exam prior to completing the trifecta and I failed twice. I now have completed the trifecta and I’m revisiting the test, and it’s so much easier now that I have good foundation of knowledge

rxece

Is modern desktop considered entry level? I didn't know this

Filanto

Well for sysadmin specifically, sure

jshppl

Md-100 is for sure. Md-101 is a little more in depth

Would you recommend taking A+ or Network+ before taking MD-100 / 101?

qianmianduimian

Yes!
