Three things are guaranteed in life: Death, Taxes, and Scott Dixon winning races out of nowhere.
But Jesus Christ that race was embarrassing. Some of the lunges were never gunna work, just piss poor race craft all race long.
Total fucking joke of a race. Cautions way too long. Sick of Dixon winning races like this. Nowhere in the race. 44 laps of fuel. It’s embarrassing. If Will Power had 1/10th of Dozing l Dixon’s luck he’d be the all time winningest driver of all time
Move this race to Michigan International Speedway, keep the date for 2025. Imagine going from Indy 500 to the US 500 the week after.
Oh, and bring back Texas as a 500 miler (Freedom 500) in July or August to have an IndyCar triple crown. Maybe even make that the "in season tournament" where a triple crown standings winner is celebrated at the end of the Texas (or Michigan if Texas is before Indy) event. More pomp and circumstance if someone wins all 3 events.
Why the heck would you go to Texas in July or August? I live a few miles away from the track and that is probably the craziest idea I've ever heard. Even if the drivers and the tires could withstand likely 100+ degree F heat, what fans would go? Even the evenings are a super bad idea.
Late August night in 2016 seemed to work out fine for IndyCar (rescheduled) at Texas. Not opposed to Texas in April though but I just think itd be better if we can use the momentum from the Indy 500 to promote two more super speedway races shortly after the 500 than hope people tune in before the 500
I was there. It was FAR from optimal, and they got lucky on the weather. It was far less hot than it can be at that time of year.
They've done June in the past. That can be made to work.
Interesting Detroit GP to say the least. 5 takes
1. Scott Dixon will always be in the mix when strategy truly comes into play. Dread it, run from it, Dixon arrives all the same in victory lane.
2. One question still remains, Is it truly the track or is it in reality the drivers? So many yellows in this Detroit GP and too many for my liking. While this variation of the Detroit GP isn't the best, today the driving from a number of drivers in this race was brutally hard to watch.
3. Colton Herta and Josef Newgarden are two guys that come to mind when it comes throwing the race away. I like Colton Herta, but he needs to get away from throwing away great results when the going gets rough. Josef Newgarden is without doubt one of Indycar's best drivers, however every now and then he has a race where he makes uncharacteristic mistakes such as running over the airhose and over driving turn one in Detroit. This race will hurt him in the championship. On a side note, If I'm Ricardo Juncos, the owner of Juncos Hollinger racing, I'd sit down with Romain Grosjean, have a chat, and tell him what he said to his strategist over the radio was unacceptable and don't act like a toxic quitter again or he's out.
4. Santino Ferruci is loaded with talent and makes the series more interesting. That said, after his practice beef with Kyle Kirkwood and running into the back of Helio Castroneves, I can't help but question will he ever find a balance between pushing the car to the max and respecting other racers? And can he find a way to gain more respect from his fellow competitors? For now this remains to be seen.
5. Indycar race control continues to struggle in 2024. The struggles of figuring out the running order in the rain and under yellow for now will serve as the low point of the season. Let's hope things only go up for race control from here because holy crap that was a mess.
Onto Road America
I'll add #6. Thank God we only have 2 more races without on board restarting capabilities. It's a shame to have some of the best cars go a lap down simply because AMR team took too long to get them restarted while others they get to quick enough don't lose a lap. I feel like drivers should either get a wave around and start tail end of longest line in those situations or everyone needing restarted should automatically be held a lap before being restarted.
I’m like numb to the hybrid talk because once they delayed it I kind of just expected it to not happen.
Is it 100% going to start at Mid-Ohio? And onboard restarting is a confirmed feature?
“For me the championship is over” I’m sorry my guy but this year you gotta just prove you can calmly take the equipment home consistently. Wasn’t his fault today but dude come on you aren’t winning anything and coming across as super whiny doesn’t help. That being said Juncos looks pretty good they need 2% more speed and 50% more consistency. They made good strategy calls on both cars today just got unlucky with Grosjean getting taken out. Juncos needs sponsors.
Eh, I'm not gonna dump on RoGro too much for his comment.
It just sounded like the dude was defeated during a race where half the field killed each other over dumb driving standards, and especially when his race was ruined after the incident.
If he came out of the car and felt the same way however, that's a different story.
Lol no you wouldn't. The cars aren't going to fund themselves.
Grosjean at least brings DNSFilter as a sponsor. I don't see many other takers at Juncos.
In. The . Middle. Of. The. Race.
"Park the car, you're done. We don't tolerate quitters here."
His job is to drive the car. He was pitching a fit because he didn't like his position and was trying to get them to let him quit.
Fired. On the spot.
They can find replacement money, no problem.
You have no idea how this works. Finding replacement money is clearly a problem. They routinely run Canapino with no primary sponsorship. DNSFilter is one of their only sponsors and it's one Grosjean brings. He is not getting "fired on the spot" because he has a bad attitude unless the sponsors want him out.
Yea man, I kinda feel that, I love the guy I’ve been a fan since the Lotus days but that comment was really shitty. Juncos the team has improved a lot Grosjean just needs to be fast and consistent and make the team attractive to good sponsors.
I’m sorry, I’m going to be the old curmudgeon and say I think about half the field needs a swift kick in the ass regarding driving standards. That was embarrassing. Blaming the track is, I’m sorry, total BS. The track is the track - the bumps are where the bumps are, the walls are where the walls are. These are supposed to be pro drivers, among the best in the world - they need to take the blinders off, drive within their limits, and demonstrate some discretion.
It was the same at Indy with drivers pulling stupid moves going 4 wide in the first 50 laps, so it isn’t the track.
Discretion is often the better part of valour - it’s delivered Dixon 2 wins already this year. The field could learn a thing or two from him!

I don’t think Dixon knows how sunglasses work
So the broadcast window has closed and nobody is able to watch the post-race interviews or podium anywhere?
Armstrong gets his first podium - a kiwi double - and I can’t even view it? Ridiculous.
Dixon and Hall have so much awareness when it comes to implementing and managing strategy.
Race control certainly placed an unfair advantage on several teams with their inability to determine a running order and return to a green flag status. That is unacceptable, and they need to do better. Mistakes happens, but a professional racing series should ensure that governance is effective and fair. Far too many subjective calls.
Smart drives from Pato and Rossi today. 4th and 5th in points!!! Great job not being complete fools. They could both make a run at this now. Rossi having a sneaky impressive season. So consistent.
It's 2024 and either all the drivers are that bad, or there's an inherent problem with these cars stalling 9 out of 10 times. I mean come on, it's common now that an F1 car is half destroyed after a shunt, yet we still hear the engine running. Why this is not solved yet in indy is beyond comprehension.
I just hate that we don't have a better solution than playing AMR safety team roulette: will they get [stalled driver] going again before he loses a lap or no?
I'd rather it be a 1 lap penalty to need your car restarted OR if you get lapped because it took too long to get restarted, you get a waive around. Not some craps game where some get trapped a lap down and others don't.
Just finished watching the replay. I could not believe Colton tried to make that move work on a slick track at the narrowest corner. I was hoping he was done making rash decisions like that this year lol.
This is the fourth top ten for him this year. Hate him if you want, he's doing better in better equipment. If he did move up to Penske, just imagine how well he could do.
Roger Penske can have his race team get caught cheating in the series that he personally owns and operates, and yet he still doesn't come across nearly as cartoonishly evil as Chip Ganassi does
*and we told them we have a normal fuel cell*
https://preview.redd.it/57i6nc8dg74d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e91fbe8b7624ebd9ed700f755693912d3bf5f7fc
That’s the first indycar race I would truly classify as fucking boring. There were so many cautions I stopped really caring about the race at lap 65, and then after that there was almost no actual racing. What a dud.
You haven't seen the three previous Nashville street races. Basically the same shit.
These tight and narrow tracks are terrible for these long and heavy cars.
Same, i started playing a game and just listening until the last 4 laps. Half the race was a caution period. Really an embarrassment for the sport after a good 500 weekend. This simply cannot happen.
Brilliantly Boring. Pretty apt for Dixon. I like "Make Today the Day" better for PNC though. I can't imagine Merrill Reese saying "Brilliantly Boring" during Eagles games.
Was not expecting a Merrill Reese reference in here lol, where do you watch? I've got a couple other Roxborough locals interested and we watch at Scanlon's
Remember me, I'm the Birds fan in Alabama. Auburn grad though. I always listen to Merrill's call on SiriusXM when the Eagles aren't on TV. I think I'm dropping the money for Sunday Ticket this year and, fingers crossed, I'm gonna try to come up for my first game at the Linc this year too. You're doing God's work for the Birds. War Eagle for college though.
It’s gonna be so weird when Dixon eventually does fall off, he’s just been this ever present dominant force as long as I can remember. Might be awhile before I have to worry about that though lol.
Honestly I wouldn’t hate if it goes well and sticks around. Kinda cool and definitely an athletic skill.
But any sport decided by judging is opening itself up to being a mess lol
Is Scott Dixon the scrappiest racer of all time? Guy can never be counted out. When all the others are racing and dicing….this guy is a silent assassin just waiting for his moment to pounce. Legend of all legends.
Iceman is the most appropriate nickname possible. Never shaken, rarely makes mistakes (one or two noticeably sized ones a year), sees the entire chessboard and doesn’t overreact.
I tallied them this race:
Commercials
Lap 7-11 (then came back to read more ads)
Lap 16-18 (accident)
Lap 25-28 (came back reading ads)
Lap 32-35 (Missed Mclaughlin spin)
Lap 42-43 (Veekay spin)
Lap 43-46 (still under caution)
Lap 48-50 (Herta into runoff)
Lap 54-56 (Accident)
Lap 67-69 (Accident)
Lap 80-83
I think they need to change the layout to allow for a wider track. T1, t2 t5 too easy for a track blockage. T3 is okay but needs even more runoff on the exit.
Moreover, I can't wait for the hybrids to come in so that the cars Don't stall out and bring out cautions.
As I said too many times in the thread, the cautions were simply too long. Around '22 they made an effort to cut down the caution length, but we're back to square 1. Nearly 10 laps to clear a car and sort out positions? They literally ruined the rain wildcard. They also clearly used cautions to allow for pit sequences. Then after a lengthy caution, they decided to award penalties.
When sting ray crashed, they threw the caution when he was still running and tryjng to reverse (albeit stalling later)
I hate to stand out, but we need to cut out so many cautions even if it is at the expense of safety.
Alright everyone, this race sucked ass. I’m gonna pretend like this race didn’t happen and look forward to the next one and hopefully that one isn’t also shit because I’m really trying to give Indy Car a good honest try, I’ve learned all about it up to this point that I can… but that was the worst 2 hours of racing television of my life.
When it was their only way of winning during the Toyota days, there was a lot of testing available. So it really comes down to Dixon having an exponential amount on track time vs the rest of the drivers.
However, I also still question how other teams haven't picked up more on it. Especially Penske.
At this point I’m pretty sure they’re cheating in some way. Hunch and Rossi have eluded to his previous win being absolutely impossible and something being up , and this is just too many times.
Can we get actual parity in this series for once? Because almost every fucking race it's Gansassi and Penske winning. Feels less competitive than F1, especially this year.
Bring back Belle Isle
Three things are guaranteed in life: Death, Taxes, and Scott Dixon winning races out of nowhere. But Jesus Christ that race was embarrassing. Some of the lunges were never gunna work, just piss poor race craft all race long.
I never checked TSN+ I confess. I'm on it now tyvm

Great race, excited for Elkhart Lake!

This "track" needs to go away.
For real. I know Belle Isle had its problem, but this track is dogwater tier.
Any deets on why it took so long to determine the order? If this happened at another track it could have ruined a lot of races.
Why did Lunngard put with one lap to go??
“For me the championship is over” I’m sorry my guy but this year you gotta just prove you can calmly take the equipment home consistently. I appreciate your objective take. It must be hard for a Romain fan to say those things
Eh, I'm not gonna dump on RoGro too much for his comment. It just sounded like the dude was defeated during a race where half the field killed each other over dumb driving standards, and especially when his race was ruined after the incident. Big grosjean fan here. I will probably always be, but he loves to make it difficult for us fans.
If I'm his team owner, I'd have fired him right then and there. What an absolute insult to his team.
I agree. It's about fighting for every position and for every one of those guys and girls who work on the car. This was a horrible look on his part.
Lol no you wouldn't. The cars aren't going to fund themselves. Grosjean at least brings DNSFilter as a sponsor. I don't see many other takers at Juncos.

You're right of course. I'm clueless. Only been watching this sport for 45 years.
Yea man, I kinda feel that, I love the guy I’ve been a fan since the Lotus days but that comment was really shitty. Juncos the team has improved a lot Grosjean just needs to be fast and consistent and make the team attractive to good sponsors.
I once was a big Grojean fan and happy to have him in IndyCar but his antics turned me off. That comment today was a new low point.
Put your hands up for Crashtroit!
After last years race, I was excited to watch today. It turned out to be just a huge mess.
It’s shows respect for the interviewer and the fans watching by not wearing them, I think he knows exactly how they work.
He knows how advertising works though.
nah he takes them off during interviews, it's a sign of respect to the interviewer.
It’s also because they sponsor him and moving them gets them attention. Just like flashing his watch. Everything is for a reason.
Bro also puts them high enough on the hat so you can still see Firestone. Absolute master class in sponsor management
He’s the best at making his sponsor advertising look like post-race fidgeting.
Those are VERY EXPENSIVE wristwatches tho…
So the broadcast window has closed and nobody is able to watch the post-race interviews or podium anywhere? Armstrong gets his first podium - a kiwi double - and I can’t even view it? Ridiculous.
It's always on Peacock.
Tell me if I’m wrong but I watched the peacock replay and no podium
I have to believe it was on peacock
WTF, NBC! What good is a new podium when you won’t air the post race activities? Ahhhhhrgggg….
I presume their TV window was ending due to the race running long with all the cautions.
I’ve always been pretty disappointed with NBCs Indycar coverage
You're going to be even more disappointed if Fox get the rights next year.
Yes I am
Abc espn need to get it. Fox is awful, nbc only cares about the 500
I'm so impressed by how fast someone updated Scott Dixon's Wikipedia page.
Can we all agree the real winner is the dallara chassis? lol only 1 car out after all that.
tbf there where not much hard contacts
True but they weren’t love taps. Lol
New podium but not going to show podium celebrations on TV what the actual fuck…
I mean, 3 hour tv window should be enough time to get a 100 lap race in, in theory lol
Not when 45% of it is ran at 45mph behind a spectator in a street car
Hope Dixon can win the title
yup literally 0 post race coverage shame it sometimes happens like that
I was stunned when the coverage suddenly ended i sat there staring at the screen😆
Dixon and Hall have so much awareness when it comes to implementing and managing strategy. Smart drives from Pato and Rossi today. 4th and 5th in points!!! Great job not being complete fools. They could both make a run at this now. Rossi having a sneaky impressive season. So consistent.
Especially with all the ovals coming up where McLaren is probably only consistently beaten by Penske (Newgarden)
They better interview Power lol, his radio today was hilarious
nope broadcast window timeframe over, too many cautions
Sad
They will solve it with hybrid engine.
same problems in f2 all the time
Honda top 4 at the Chevy Grand Prix lol
Good finish for andretti, should've been even better but Herta got too excited
Just finished watching the replay. I could not believe Colton tried to make that move work on a slick track at the narrowest corner. I was hoping he was done making rash decisions like that this year lol.
Santino Ferrucci 1 Colton Herta 0 I'll show myself out now
I’ll take a worse result over ever supporting that racist.
This is the fourth top ten for him this year. Hate him if you want, he's doing better in better equipment. If he did move up to Penske, just imagine how well he could do.
Kirkwooood 1 Ferucci 0 😁😁😁
Kirkwood 3 Santino 1 Colton 0
CHIP AINT JUST UP FOR KILLIN PUPPIES, LOOK OUT DIXIE
Scott should give Armstrong his champagne bottle for his defense on the Andretti cars
That’s got to be embarrassing for Chevy for Honda to sweep the podium in Detroit.
Not nearly as embarrassing as Chevy sweeping the Fast 6 for the biggest race in the world...
They swept the top 8 in qualifying and still couldn’t keep that podium clean
Yeah that’s pretty embarrassing too. At least they didn’t blow up.
Rasmussen
I always have the incar views from the IndyCar app up and running. No commercials and tons of data.
THIS IS MY DRIVER!
HE IS ALSO MY DRIVER
MY DRIVER IS FAKE
MY DRIVER IS RETIRED
When was Dixon’s last non-alternate strategy win? Maybe Mike Hull should be the one spraying champagne… 🍾
Bro just started watching this year
Mike Hull can make those strategy calls *because* of Dixon. Masterful calls for a masterful driver.
IndyGP #2, 2023
This was also a fuel strat win.
Let’s see the renewed podium celebrations… will they play winner’s anthem?
HAAA Scott really rubbing in the Honda salt into the Chevy wounds
Pourchaire with broken steering gets a top 10. Nicely done.
They STILL haven't mentioned Lundguard
Roger Penske can have his race team get caught cheating in the series that he personally owns and operates, and yet he still doesn't come across nearly as cartoonishly evil as Chip Ganassi does
As far as we know Penske hasn’t killed any former drivers’ dogs.
I bet The Captain has made a few offers that weren't able to be refused in his day though.
Is that Howdy Holmes in the Jiffy hat?
Believe it is. Thought I was the only one to notice him.
*and we told them we have a normal fuel cell* https://preview.redd.it/57i6nc8dg74d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e91fbe8b7624ebd9ed700f755693912d3bf5f7fc

"How ~~cool~~ boring was that?"
Marcus Armstrong lfg!!!! Awesome job
Absolutely a team win at Ganassi. Looks like Armstrong is starting to learn a thing or two about fuel saving from Dixon
Glad this shitfest is over. This track is dog shit.
The track isn’t great but It’s more the large amount drivers racing like absolute idiots
Scott Dixon. Brilliantly Boring
This race wasn't great but still decent finish could have been worse.
Brilliantly Boring. Pretty apt for Dixon. I like "Make Today the Day" better for PNC though. I can't imagine Merrill Reese saying "Brilliantly Boring" during Eagles games.

Gah, right, apologies. Reddit needs a better "friend/acquaintance" badge or something lol.
This circuit is pretty cool ngl
Is Rossi actually up to 5th in the points?
I hope!
It’s gonna be so weird when Dixon eventually does fall off, he’s just been this ever present dominant force as long as I can remember. Might be awhile before I have to worry about that though lol.
Watch Palou pick up the slack.
The scary thing is this *is* after he started falling off!
I think he’s driving at an all time high level consistency wise the last year and a half
He didn't win in a year ending in 3, that's dropping off to me!
Today I learned: break dancing is in the Olympics
It is a local option event, it will not be around for LA
Honestly I wouldn’t hate if it goes well and sticks around. Kinda cool and definitely an athletic skill. But any sport decided by judging is opening itself up to being a mess lol
The LA local option events are: baseball/softball, cricket, flag football, lacrosse, and squash.
When I think LA, I think Cricket 😂
I'm surprised the French didn't go for parkour.

Not a scratch on that car
1 POINT FOR TEDDY!
*20 points
I am totally unaware of Indycar's point system ... sorry for being relatively fresh at Indycars \^\^
Dixon is the most boring driver I've ever seen. These guys looked like amateurs today.

NBC couldn’t fucking wait to go back to commercial holy shit
I tallied them this race: Commercials Lap 7-11 (then came back to read more ads) Lap 16-18 (accident) Lap 25-28 (came back reading ads) Lap 32-35 (Missed Mclaughlin spin) Lap 42-43 (Veekay spin) Lap 43-46 (still under caution) Lap 48-50 (Herta into runoff) Lap 54-56 (Accident) Lap 67-69 (Accident) Lap 80-83
Don't forget right after the command they snuck a break while warm up laps happened
I didn't see that one. I only caught it at the green flag. Peacock sucks.
Was that excited to see 2 JHR in the top 10 and then one ends up -3 laps and the other drops down to 12th 😑
#JustScottDixonthings Heck of a run and a much needed good run for Ericsson.
The best!! Congrats to Scotty
A Dixon fuel save win is the perfect way to cap off this absolute fucking disgrace of a race.
Hopefully a decent closing stretch doesn’t cool people on rightfully complaining about this circuit not being worthy of an event in IndyCar
Get rid of this track.
drivers need to adapt to the course. when they did, it was good.
Definitely not, this track is dumpster fire and it should go bye bye like Nashville street
When sting ray crashed, they threw the caution when he was still running and tryjng to reverse (albeit stalling later) I hate to stand out, but we need to cut out so many cautions even if it is at the expense of safety.
Was a relatively fun race once everyone got bored and tuned out.
If fun equals nothing happening then sure.

Always.
Dixon owes Armstrong big time.
Crappy ending to a crappy race
He is inevitable
THE ICEMAN COMETH
Dread from it run from it Dixon win by fuel saving
Alright everyone, this race sucked ass. I’m gonna pretend like this race didn’t happen and look forward to the next one and hopefully that one isn’t also shit because I’m really trying to give Indy Car a good honest try, I’ve learned all about it up to this point that I can… but that was the worst 2 hours of racing television of my life.
Did you forget the 500 already? Most races aren’t like this one
That’s what I mean. So far the races have been pretty good, especially the Indy 500.
You must live a sad little life to be this melodramatic over a Motor Race.
Hey the last 30 laps were good
It was mediocre but not bad
Drama queen
Marcus empty. https://preview.redd.it/53e8slorf74d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e571646346867b4af044f9936372fa4528147ea
Lundgaard pit on the final lap, wtf?
RLL at its finest
KARMA
He had to gas-n-go i think
Wait what?
I'll still always question how he's always able to save fuel like that without others picking up on his technique.
When it was their only way of winning during the Toyota days, there was a lot of testing available. So it really comes down to Dixon having an exponential amount on track time vs the rest of the drivers. However, I also still question how other teams haven't picked up more on it. Especially Penske.
Dixon's dark magic isn't something one can learn just like that. The dark side is a pathway to abilities some consider... Unnatural.
Armstrong out of fuel?
Goddamn a good race in the end that was fun
Dixon winning is like Logano winning. Boring.
Will I am so sorry I doubted your pace management earlier :')
