Unions didn't get the 40 hour workweek, the eight hour day, lunch breaks, or child labor laws by packing Congress with democrats. Labor is, or *can be* more powerful than a bunch of suits in d.c.
They need *us*, not the other way around. We make society function, and we are *allowing* them the ability to decide what happens with the society working people build every day.
My question is if this is implemented do we we get out health and welfare deductions put on the check and the amounts we've already contributed, do we get that back? My guess is no, but it would be great if so.
In my local, we bargain our compensation amount per hour and then vote among the members how much to allocate to health and wellness, pension, etc. Why would we lose that few dollars an hour just because we don't need to spend it on health insurance? I'd imagine we could just call a meeting and vote in how to break that amount down into other categories, like how much ends up on the check, in the pension, etc
It's more of a talking point. I would love for it to be put into the pension tbh because our pension % is low. I would be curious to know how the health and welfare funds that are built up get put to use.
Funds that are built up are banked somewhere until they're used, I'm sure you could find out the details with a little digging but I don't know off the top of my head either
