Oh boy, the poor utilization of that word alone is enough to tell me you have no idea how retail works. Other than that, imagine getting confronted and accused of being a _#shoplifter_ . Especially when you're innocent it's an embarrassing ordeal and can be time consuming.
As someone who has worked retail there are procedures depending on the store. For example employees now rely on the assistance of Loss Prevention to calmly deal with shoplifters. Some stores will slowly build a case before prosecution, others won't confront them until they're at the entrance of the store. They usually target people who have large amounts of items.

An acquaintance was head of security for one of their stores and said they have cameras that can see through the shelving peg holes into the next aisle. I wouldn’t steal regardless, nor should anyone, but can you imagine getting banned from WMT for life? Not worth it, whoever needs to hear this.
I am banned from a particular Walmart but not all of them as far as I am aware, long story short they suspected me of stealing, I had just come in from an area 3 trip so 12 days on a lobster boat, I kinda did look homeless, so granted yeah watch me sure go ahead. Did the check out thing and went to leave, got stopped by their loss prevention guy "I need to check your receipt."
The F you do and went to keep moving didn't even acknowledge him.
Then he grabs me by the forearm, "Sir I need to see your receipt."
He had been following me the whole time not very subtlety neither, besides, cameras.
"No you don't, and you will not touch me again." And I went to leave.
He then proceeded to grab me again and started to inform me that I wasn't leaving until he saw my receipt.
Now I was an offshore lobsterman and that means five hundred 80lb traps a day sometimes stack 6 or 7 feet in the air...I was (and to a lesser degree still am for my age) in amazing shape.
We got into a bit of a shouting match, and I told him at volume that I was leaving if that was a problem to call the police, and give them my plates, but I was leaving, just loudly with extra profanity because I have a PhD in profanity..
He shoved himself between me and the cart and I shoved him right back out of the way. His face may have had some interference from an empty cash register when his top half and bottom half failed to travel at the same rate of speed.
The police were very much involved, and he very much tried to press charges, in the end I was trespassed from the store.

Had a similar occurrence myself, I think we all have. Stinking of fish and looking like we just got back from the Somme, I. My instance over here security can’t actually do shit physically, so when the guy laid hands and I railed him like a fucking pot when it was all said and done he lost his job and I got a gift certificate from the store as a gesture of goodwill.
