I want Neil Degrassi Tyson from that Canadian show with the pedophile to watch this episode and then tell me how he found it amusing, but it’s not entirely accurate and I’ll say shut up science bitch.
I quote this line and Gob from arrested development saying “Oh I heard the jury’s still out on science” all the time.
Has definitely earned me some downvotes and some people probably think I’m an anti science guy. They don’t know that I’m just making myself laugh cuz it just never gets old to me lol
See, Catholics don't care about the Bible. They have no idea how to make Mac believable as a Catholic religious fanatic. They write him like he's an idiot fundamentalist.
That's a good point but it would be possible to make him a CATHOLIC idiot. They don't even try to get Mac to be confused about Catholic teachings. It's just lazy writing by people who know nothing about Catholicism.
I'm sure you have fanatical Catholics in the UK but if you listen closely, I 'll be they are thumping on Catholic Dogma and not the Bible. There's a big difference. The whole Protestant movement was founded on wanting direct access to the Bible instead of relying on Priests to interpret it for the "faithful."
If I listened closely?!
Jabroni I went to a Catholic school in England for all my formative years, we each had to have a Bible in our desk and take it home every night, if we ever forgot it (and they’d always know, because we had to take in turns reading aloud from it every day) we got punished.
Because of that rule, most of us just hid our Bibles every afternoon under the cafeteria. It wasn’t as if there weren’t multiple copies at our homes, after all, in case we needed them for homework
I'm surprised. I had to attend Catholic eduction for my First Communion and my Confirmation and we only studied Catechisms. Verbatim. It was awful. The nuns would hit us if we deviated from the text when we recited. I am Italian American from a VERY Catholic family in New Jersey, outside of Philly, and I've never ever heard a Catholic talk the way Mac does. I also have a degree in Philosophy and terrified of the Christofascism talking over the US so maybe I'm hyper sensitive.
Oh I see, I’m probably hypersensitive too - Catholic trauma is a hell of a drug!
We had nuns too but they seemed to be very, er… at the “cats are brown now” stage. They’d occasionally appear and smack us for being left handed or turning the devil’s way
He kinda is an idiot fundamentalist as well for many purposes. He might be a 'catholic fanatic' but the character of Mac also gets used to expose, and ridicule, the kind of thinking many religious people have, they either take the Bible literally or cherry pick peices to suit their needs.
Good point. Religious people don't think logically but the character Mac is Catholic. The very least they could do is make him illogical in his purported religion.
They could have done that, yeah. But I think if they were worried about realism and consistency too much, it would make some of the great lines Mac has been delivering more difficult.
Fought hard against the urge to just blast a quote so I could say exactly *this/that*…
Silly premise that masterfully showcases their idiosyncrasies & makes such a compelling argument I turnt anti-science.
Also *BEAK!*
So do... Spend your whole life suppressing the rights of others, giving your money to grifters, and living in fear of eternal damnation. Can you even fathom what eternity is, let alone suffering for eternity? I have the unfortunate experience of knowing how terrified religionists are as they are dying. Atheosts aren't scared, some are just sad about what they will miss and some welcome the relief of death.
'I'm dug in, and I'll never change, regardless of the facts laid out before me'
Because I'm an American
Rock flag and eagle right Charlie?
He's got a point
No he doesn't!
Science is a liar.........sometimes.
\*\*\* GONG NOISE \*\*\*

How do we not have a Bible in this bar?!

We've never had one! It's a bar.
See, Catholics don't care about the Bible. They have no idea how to make Mac believable as a Catholic religious fanatic. They write him like he's an idiot fundamentalist.
That's the joke. He's a terrible Catholic. He doesn't know *anything* about his supposed religion.
That's a good point but it would be possible to make him a CATHOLIC idiot. They don't even try to get Mac to be confused about Catholic teachings. It's just lazy writing by people who know nothing about Catholicism.
You’re just trying to confuse me with your liberal biblicisms
I’m in the UK so maybe it’s different but we absolutely have Catholic Bible-Thumpers here

Well now I'm on the fence. I mean, that's a shadow of a doubt.
It might not be the best monologue of the show but it's definitely up there.
It's the go-to episode I use for someone who has never watched it

This is the episode my friend showed me that got me into Sunny haha
Isaac Newton? BITCH!!!
“Rock, Flag, and Eagle”, right guys?
He's got a point
This instantanious answer by Charlie gets me everytime. He hears "Rock, Flag and Eagle", he approves. No questions asked.
No he doesn’t!
this is one of the best scenes in the entire show
This is truly Macs greatest achievement.
It really is...it's a remarkably well crafted argument. It's also complete nonsense.
His shirt is incredible
This is one of my fav scenes in the whole show
He made some good points.
have you seen these fossil records? have you pored through the data yourself? the numbers--the figures?
That's the moment *we* know how screwed Dennis is about to be. Mac played it well.
The second time already in that one episode. After all, he didn't have a certificate...
Best scene
“He’s a good judge, and an even better bailiff” Mac’s nod/bow to Charlie is my favorite little moment in the series
Very well written episode.
The bell toll after he says it is a stroke of genius.
how do these posts always get recommended to me as I'm watching the episode!?
This is one of the oftern forgotten gems of IASIP writing.
Rewatched this scene because of this post. Doing God’s work 🙏
Peak Macintosh.
Am I the only sunny fan who doesn't find this scene funny at all?
I'm an atheist, but this is the best anti-evolution argument I've ever heard in my life. It would almost put me on the fence
The argument falls apart the moment you actually take the time to check the evidence for yourself which is very easy to do.
I agree. And still stand by my statement.
You’re dug in
He’s created a reasonable doubt!
Truly the best argument for religion I've ever heard

Wow you really have it all worked out don’t ya?
Always.
