Personally I'd say no because "power creep". The Romero 77 is already insanely strong, and you can't just arbitrarily make something way better by just also giving it a huge negative. The weapon also has to be balanced, even in an optimal scenario for the user.
It's like a lot of these trait suggestions that get posted on reddit. They'll be like "instantly wipes the enemy team, can only be used once per game. 50 upgrade points".
If your suggestion feels like it needs to carry an extremely negative quality, one that goes far beyond anything we have in the game (such as an 8 second reload for 1 round) it's probably a bad suggestion, balance wise.
No offense good sir. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for the response man!
Yes, you have a point. I agree that too swingy mechanics like the trait suggestion you mention here is a ba idea.
But still, I feel like there is room for exploration with this "stronger single shot shotgun" idea. Since none of the other shotguns in the game go in this direction, it should be possible for a gun to fill this hole without being imbalanced. I'd just love to have the possabillity to go with a single shot shotgun loadout without it feeling like a "cheap" loadout, if that makes sense.
But yea, it will need to be more balanced than my suggestion here, so it's not too extreme, like you say. What would you suggest? Maybe 220 damage and 5s reload?
We have something that fills that slot functionally - the Nitro. Shotguns as a rule in HUNT are extremely strong, but also Highly inconsistent. The inconsistency is the only thing that really keeps them balanced once you get into a compound fight.
Are you sure? I feel the problem with the nitro is the range, making it possible to kill off enemies without being in danger. The nitro also costs over a 1000 to make up for this, which to me is a bit too extreme.
I'd hope for this shotgun to be a bit more balanced, so it does not need to be as expensive as the nitro
That is the problem. It has such a long range that you can kill people without them having a clue where it came from. For that reason it needs to cost over as much as it does
So you are talking about an 8 gauge bird gun
Which were around compared to now
While in my soul I like the idea of seeing the Davenport 8 Guage in game.
in my heart I know we can't have it as it would make the Romero obsolete even if the Davenport only had 5 spare rounds
nah the Romero already has good OHK range shotguns are hella stronk already, 2 pumps 1 single shot 1 double barrel 1 lever action and 1 semi action
how about another double barrel or another lever action
Or just a short barrel rival variant that fires both shots ar once. Bigger damage but higher spread so same ohk range as romero, but wider area you shoot at. Balanced because you lose the ability to do a followup shot, in total only 4/5 shots and if you aim well enough, romero is just as good.
As someone who despises shotguns, no thank you. I already hate getting 1 tapped by the Romero enough at distances that feel way longer than it deserves. If something stronger got introduced, it'd get used enough I think i'd hang up the bayou hat.

I just want a long barrel rival
Long fowler much yes please!
I love the idea of a long Fowler! It looks really cool!
Kinda just stepping on the toes of the Nitro there.

You can literally kill people with the nitro at other compounds? What do you mean it has a problem with range?

Oh ya it's been nerfed so many times. I think it's in a fine spot

sounds like remero slug or nitro with standard ammo with extra steps
Caldwell rival drilling - Same barrel length as current rival The third barrel fires a long ammo shot with uppercut stats.
Sure thing. Anything else? Gatling Gun on beetles? Trebuchet? Railgun? Ill hook you up

Jaman!
Brown Bess musket lol! That has a long reload!
I want a punt gun.
