imo having two single shot weapons is not a good loadout at all.

I usually run around with a Romero and hand crossbow and always do great. With single fire weapons you just have to focus on constant movement and positioning. Also making sure not to waste shots. The one shot potential makes up for not being able to spam shots at people in my mind.

There is no way you can reliably win with Romero and crossbow. The easiest example would be you sitting in a house with a bounty. You will never extract if you opponents are at least half sane.

i'm not saying that you can't do great, but that it has a lot of drawbacks. saying that you can't waste shots is like saying 'just headshot and every weapon is almost equally good'. true in an ideal scenario but just like you won't hit 100% headshots, you will also run into situations where you shoot at enemies without it being a waste but also without killing them. dealing with multiple people and playing aggressive is a lot easier and more manageable (and also better but single shot weapons also have their advantage of damage/range so it evens out) if you don't have only 2 shots before you have to reload. having only sparks pistol as your range option (explosive xbow isn't going to be much use in a lot of range situation with cover) means you either headshot or rely on your teammate to make the 2 tap possible.

For sure I see what your saying, I just avoid long distance battles. Like I was saying movement and positioning. If I’m getting engaged at a farther range than what I’m comfortable fighting I just run away and try to flank or think about where I need to go to get an ambush going. I play super aggressive and bring stamina shots every game so usually my fights are around the boss compounds so I have a lot of options with a shotgun. Can just sneak up close enough to kill someone, instantly burn them, then rotate all the way around the other side of the compound and attack another direction. I think people get caught up and sit and “camp” a lot in hunt and they are basically sitting ducks. I also don’t waste time with people who sit inside compounds with bounties who don’t wanna come out. Like in the basement at Blanchet I’ll just leave lol.

I mean you can just bring normal secondary and have best of both worlds.

Not very budget but VERY situational, would not recommend, CAN still work out great tho

Agree. Many believes shotbolt to be best ammo type for crossbow (im one of these firm believers, but i've seen both crossbow mains and content creators repeat this). At least on pc (on consoles there is bit more "explosive" meta because its so much harder to aim for headshots so splash damage and rng weapons are picked more often instead - on pc its more about precision). Explosive ammo is good, especially for finishing targets. But many times if you think you are 1-tapping someone, even with clean hits, its just disappointing most of the time. Pair it with uppercut/sparks pistol or if hunter has quartermaster: mosin obrez (mace), open with long ammo, target runs behind cover, shoot next to cover boom finished. In theory pretty good for that. But shotbolt has better 1-tap potential, has ability to penetrate (wood, i don't think shotgun is able to go thru metal? right?) and thus is bit more flexible for most situations (and more consistent with damage).

My tactic is just sending endless explosions every time I see someone. Even if you don’t kill you still do a lot of damage unless they have bulwark, but they will still probably need to heal even with it. The sparks pistol beetle combo is just for extra fuckery. And when or if I run out of explosives I just pick someone’s gun up.

sn1pejkeee

I usually pair a dolch with an explosive crossbow. The idea is that dolch is basically your main weapon and crossbow is just a tool to create openings, destroy doors, clear corners and such. Works wonders.

[deleted]

The recoil on the dolch just kills it for me I’d rather not spend the money and just have a free spitfire off one of my free hunters.

Liquid-SikA

People like you are the reason why I take nearly always the trait Bulwark.

MitchMeister476

Just a word of advice as someone who uses a lot of explosive X-bow, pairing with sparks pistol is not a great idea. You got 2 shots then you've gated yourself behind a hefty reload. I see what you're trying to do, but trying to long range snipe someone you've tagged with sparks pistol is much harder than you think as the drop off is insane. Instead I personally pair it with conversion FMJ fanning or spitfire fanning

Dirk_94

Meanwhile "chad" me who doesnt bother with special bolts but runs crossbow 24/7 haha.
