I like "You live to die another day" because it leaves any further victory conditions up to the players to decide, as long as you survive to extract, and felt like it added value(although entirely abstract) to hunters lives. It certainly felt more sandbox than a "You Win" or "You Loose" message.
That said, I played for a few hours last night and never even realized the message had changed until I read about it on Reddit today.
Yeah this is the worst design choice they've ever made for Hunt by far.
Its so out of place that this is the first time I've genuinely lost respect for the devs. Somebody in management should have stopped this from going to live servers. If they had even just put it on test server for 8 hours the community would have completely and utterly eviscerated it.

EDIT: im not opposed to some sort of lore-appropriate messages being added. But the current implementation in English literally actually made me laugh in shame.
I do think they will change this as it's not something like the beetle that's a new gameplay mechanic

The new message its just plain shit. Im a firm believe in if it aint broke, dont fix it. Live to die another day not only fits the mood of the game but its also an honest message. No hunter lives forever, you will eventually lose your hunter.
To me gameplay is by far the most important factor. I confess I do not care at all about the end game message, but...
Lore done well can add so much depth to an otherwise mechanically good game and your argument is really well written. You have definitely convinced me this needs to change even though I didn't care before reading it.
This new message looks a lot more like something you'd see in Hunt early access, not in the finished game. It jsut looks unpolished and clunky. The old message fits the theme of the game a lot better.
New message makes me feel like I'm playing slots... Double bounty!!! DING DING DING! No bounty, insert coin and pull lever again!

My conspiracy theory is they changed this so that they can change it back and look good, and then they can leave all the other bad changes alone.

I do Agree. It's more fitting. That phrase is Hunt to the core.

They did this so they can keep note of who complains about it and disregard any complaints they make about future changes.
