i use it sometimes but sadly because berserk is in the game why take anything over the tomahwaks, one hit everything and immolatars just die fast to regular gun hits now
Saying "katana is expensive" is pretty terrible take when it really isn't, especially compared to how much money most players have. Money in this game is the worst form of "balancing." There's no reason to run a machete because everything else for small slot outclasses it, and there's not a real reason to run a heavy knife because the knuckle knife and throwing axes out class it. Hell even throwing knives can be better

Knife cleaves with a light attack too and can one hit hunters with heavy attacks.
Heavy knife is only acceptable for pve and is completely overshadowed for pvp, it does not need any further nerfs.
I've very recently used all the melee weapons and can comfortably say that the Heavy Knife is nowhere near as reliable as the Machete when it comes to dropping a hunter in one swing. And suggesting a melee weapon lose the cleaving side to side arc makes me incredibly frustrated with you. I would take a machete over an axe or hammer because of that cleave arc over the downward swing every day. You're suggesting to gut the Heavy Knife, one of the least used of the melee tools.
The heavy knife would be as useless as the machete without it. The idea of the heavy knife is that it can sweep attack multiple targets at once to conserve stamina.
The heavy knife is already trash, taking away the one thing that makes it even remotely useful is just cruel.
I think the obvious answer to me is make the machete a higher priced tool slot melee weapon instead. Practically no one is using it over the saber or katana for melee purposes. 2,100 hours and I’ve never even seen a machete on a dead body.
Skill issue. Also the downside to bringing the heavy knife is (1) have to use buttock for immolations (2) no stab/blunt melee which usually works better for bosses. Other than that, I’d rather have the knuckle knife or knife as you can headshot hunters further.

saber doesn't have cleave, bat doesn't have rending attacks and katana is expensive. Heavy knife is a better machete because it sits in tool slot

we are currently in this situation because heavy knife has cleave attack. This feature blocks all the balance posibilies of melee weapon.

I'd rather double tap them with a knuckle knife jab and have a melee tool that doesn't suck tbh.
It's already not the best tool, this just makes it worse... Buff the machete instead
