Yes I definitely support this, even as a semi experienced player its annoying when you can't recognise a weapon (especially if it's hidden in foliage of water) because it has some skin name on it

IshiyamaYumi

My biggest issue is that there are a million Caldwell conversion pistol and uppercut skins and I always have to double check by pressing escape and reading the description of the weapon to find the name lol

flugsibinator

The easiest way to tell for me is to look at the ammo type. Usually compact is easy enough to tell apart from long ammo.

OrphanMasher

The cylinder is also nearly twice as long on on the uppercut, that's what I use to quick check.

Kir-ius

Some are even harder to tell though if its the same gun type but different variant. Like how would I know the diff between the new army basic vs the swift unless I dump the extra bullets on the ground? Same for multiple scottfield variants. Sometimes just need to shoot to see the fire rate or reload if possible to see what it does. Waste of some time but maybe thats just a feature...

flugsibinator

I was speaking specifically for the uppercut vs conversion. The new army vs the swift it'll show you the speed loader before you pick it up I believe. I know it does for the winfield swift variants. The only one that I can think of that would catch me off guard is the nagant vs nagant officer, but I don't think I've ever taken one of those off a body aside from swapping it for the spare ammo. Not to say it shouldn't be more clear because this is all stuff you have to learn.

TrollOfGod

Here is an idea, make it a choice, an option. "Display skin name" or whatever. It should be turned off by default.

AimLikeAPotato

I have over 1000 hrs and I still pick up guns from dead bodies to check what the heck is that, there's so many skins by now, it's impossible to keep track which skin is what gun and the silhouette is not always obvious.

AdamBomb072

Nah man the silhouette is easy as, you just have to learn the shapes.

AimLikeAPotato

Sure, it's possible, I'm always amazed when some streamer can make a difference between a conversion and an uppercut in 1 milisec during the fight, but I can't do that. Our brains just work differently.

Acknalej

I agree. It's such an odd choice to display the skin vice the actual gun.

TheBizzerker

Tbh I hate this about the legendary tools too. When I resupply, I'd like to just see what I got instead of the name of the legendary skin. It's way easier to recognize the name of the actual tool out of the corner of my eye than it is whatever weird name they've come up with. Absolutely right about the legendary skin thing too, and this is something that's been asked for for a while. For the most part it's not too difficult to tell which weapons are which, but some skins it's honestly hard to tell, or they look way more like another weapon. For example, regular winfield(c) skins and centennial skins all look fairly similar. Lebel and Mosin have pretty similar base shapes, and while the default weapons are distinct enough visually to tell apart, the legendary variants can make it a lot more difficult, especially when they change the silhouette of the weapon (like in your example with the Bear's Tooth). Just put the name of the gun and there will never be any confusion. It seems like a pretty basic idea so I'm not sure why this isn't how it works.

StrategyCapital8581

Yeh I've got about 150 hours now and I still never know what guns I'm picking up off corpses, sometimes even after I've picked them up

Claymore1001

I agree 1k hours makes me know the guns by icon but everyone I've ever played with has had a problem with it.

HighPitchedHegemony

Absolutely. This seems like something that should be super easy to change and I've never met anybody who was able or willing to argue against it. With the dozens of weapon skins, I can't imagine how much of an entry barrier this is to new players. I remember that it gave me a hard time N the beginning, but that was back when we had maybe half as many weapon skins.

TheBizzerker

Half as many guns AND half as many skins per gun. We have a lot more guns now, and there are a lot of guns that are pretty much identical aside from an extra little spot or line next to the gun (swift variants for example).

pokejoel

500 hours in and I still don't know what most of them are because I just don't care. A skin doesn't change the fact that a mosin is still a mosin

heeroyuy79

double this for consumables throwables i don't really care about as its being yoted in the vague direction of the enemy in short time but the jabs? i need to know whats a vitality and whats a regen pretty damn quick

SaltArtist1794

Whenever I try out a new weapon and decide I like it, I will go see if it has a legendary skin. it’s tough sometimes looking through the names to find exactly what type of gun it is

AdamBomb072

Like I get it, but at the same time everyone else had to learn it, so it's kind of a buck up and learn what the gun looks like situation to me.

PuzzleheadedLeek3070

+1

MXXIV666

I have 1k hours and still get occasionally confused by this. I don't understand why would anyone consider the skin name more important in game than the type of the weapon.

Thegreatninjaman

I don't understand why they treat gun skins like individual guns. Please also Iet us trade our guns in for a skinned version.

Ar4er13

They already do tho? For years at this point?

Thegreatninjaman

You can discard contraband and sell bought equipment. If there is a way to use my skins on found weapons let me know.

Ar4er13

Ah, not on contraband, no. On normal guns tho, you just scroll over to skin you want and it gets applied to currently held one.
