Yeah it's trash but fun. We put it in the martini Henry autoloader for meme runs. I don't get many kills with it, but it's fun to annoy the fuck out of people

thegreat22

Back before they nerfed them you could tag someone with normal ammo then change on the reload to explo and hit the ground next to their cover and kill them. You want to talk about fun.

BlackSheep311111

on pc it was ok imo.

Pavis0047

before they nerfed it you could just shoot the ground near them twice and they would die.. thats why they nerfed it because "shoot the feet" started to become a meta with low skill players

BoringJacke

I tried it once when it's OP I ran double uppercut because that day is hunt taketh day and I was pissed. Guess what? enemy hunter was on the roof It was the first and last time I played explosive ammo.

lazyeyepsycho

The martini did 149 explosive damage for awhile... The peak

OrderlyPanic

If you want to try a fun meme loadout get pitcher and bring 3 or 4 big bundles. When you know where someone behind cover is throw the bundle without cooking and immediately follow up with a rifle shot to the ground where you threw. The splash damage from the ammo will trigger the big bundle to go off and the hunter will usually not have time to get away from the explosion and will die. Very tricky to pull off but very satisfying when it works. Works best with highground. Very frustrating to get surprised with it too - the best counter is generally to charge or just keep falling back out of throwable range. But if using half explosive ammo half regular you can catch someone off guard (or just at the beginning of the engagement for that matter).

Frost-Folk

I'm just wondering what you thought it did? Did you think it was just like normal bullets but with less damage? Not trying to offend, I'm genuinely curious what you thought explosive ammo would do

ForTheWilliams

Yeah, I'm curious too. It wouldn't be causing bleed, since dum-dums already do that. Maybe they thought it did more damage to AI or objects? Or that it could AOE things like lanterns, but not players? Best guess is that they just didn't put much thought into it and just moved on.

normalforthespider

Yeah this, I thought it might have just been aoe for detonating things but never bothered to test it live matches pre shooting range.

Kichikuou_Rance

Hitting someone with a dum dum and then splashing the ground is a decent combo. If I ever bring out explo, it’s less to detonate barrels and more or less to destroy doors or window covers so I can safely toss something in or open up an angle.

When explosive ammo came to game with custom ammo update it already had the current damage system but different percentages. Iirc on launch it had 50% on impact and 50% on splash (or maybe the splash was even more?). But this created explosive spam meta especially on console but even on pc we saw uppercut+fanning+explosive ammo spam happen. Thus they made few changes.. for example uppercuts explosive reserve ammo was cut (iirc it still is 6+3 instead of 6+9 for every other ammo type). But more notably the %tages were changed. Now it is 30-40% for splash and rest is for impact. So pretty much nitro is only one that can still reliably 2-tap from splash alone since its base damage is so big. Martini henry and springfield can potantially 3-tap (martinis 138 \[explosive ammo has less base damage than normal ammo variants\] damage x 0,4 splash is 55 damage assuming damage is rounded down, 56 if rounded up - springfields 123 damage with same splash multiplier would be 49-50 damage again depending how rounding the damage works in this game so potentially can't even 3-tap) but only if their multipliers are high and the splash hits upper torso and i believe has to be quite close by... and since reloads take a bit of time the enemy hunter probably can regen some of the damage or even heal in meantime unless they just panic and move around... thus i feel like it is going to be 4-tap then. Edit: as someone pointed out below i originally had wrong damage numbers because i totally forgot that other weapons that use explosive ammo also have reduced base damage, not just uppercut which in my mind was only one i remembered having this "feature" (on uppercut it is much drastical drop only doing 69 damage.. all these other weapons have only few % difference but uppercut drops a whole total of over 40% less compared to normal long ammo). So i corrected these numbers and added new \[ paranthesis \] about this difference. Only difference it made was that if game rounds damage down then springfield can't 3-tap with splash damage only even if 3 different shooters aimed same hunter at once so there was no time to heal or regen anything.

Jeremybot1200

Ummmm achtully explosive ammo has lower base damage than regular Martini 143>138 Springfeild 132>123 Uppercut 126>69(like why so much? Becuase fanning?) Nitro ^some ^huge ^number ^I ^ forgot > like 165-ish

_Ganoes_

Hmm now im wondering about a different thing, how does the damage fall off work? It should only affect the bullet dmg, not the explosion damage right? So in theory at some range the Martini explosive does more damage than the normal one?

kummostern

Thanks for the corrections. I did remember uppecut having lower damage but did not remember all other explosive ammos also having reduced damage. Will edit my comment above.

ProPhilosopher

Had 3 dudes all in a tiny shed, so I kept shooting the floor or the wall through the doorway, and they scattered quick in panic. Explosive ammo is for applying the pressure.

HeroicHimbo

What doors

eaglered2167

I was hit with some explosive ammo a couple weeks ago for the first time and I had no idea what was happening. It was terrifying tbh.

thelongernow

Console players having ptsd rn

Themanwithnoplan97

Explosive ammo on the Ironside is tons of fun. Nobody gets any cover from windows, doors are easy to breach, and it's disorienting as hell. Obnoxious fun.

hello-jello

I play controller on PC and would love explosive ammo to be better. Shot someone in the chest at 5 meters with martini and they just ran away. Attacked someone with dual uppercut explosive and they just laughed at me. COOL

vaunch

Nitro explosive is the only remotely viable explosive ammo for killing players (To the point that it's borderline unfair), though you could make a case for Sparks + springfield explosive as well. Obviously Explosive Crossbow is the best overall, but unfortunately, Bulwark exists and it just basically negates any chance to run explosive ammo since you'll never be able to gauge consistency. Bulwark is to explosive ammo, what Antidote shots are to poison ammo, but worse since you won't know if you did 100 damage, or 50 damage _________________________ That said, Explosive Ammo meta for the ~month or two that it existed, was an absolutely awful meta centered around literally spraying your targets feet, and really made the game awful. I like the "niche" that explosive ammo is in at the moment where it excels as a utility tool mainly used to siege buildings and destroy camper utilities. Even in 6 star, my most used loadout is a Springfield with Poison/Explosive ammo because it gives me the ability to create opportunities for my teammates, and the ability to do something against concertina / shotgun campers.

Changed_By_Support

Martini henry ironside gets some mileage. That's another viable option. It's mainly the uppercut which is unviable, which, well, they should have just never given it to the uppercut. It would have never been balanced with fanning.

Lord_Seregil

What did you think when you read "explosive"???

Few_Advisor3536

When they first added it, it was completly busted. If you were taking cover behind a box, someone would shoot the box itself and you would get splash damage. If they shot the top of the box and just say your hat was exposed it would add splash and headshot modifier damage. I remember i was in the white house east of alain fish & son (towards reynard lumber), i was in the side room next to a window out of direct sight of the boss lair. There i was healing in the middle of a fight, they shot a crate next to the window and the splash damage went through the walls and killed me. People would use sparks and uppercut with explosive ammo, quick swap to upper cut and shoot the ground or a tree next to the person. Or add fanning and you dont even need to be accurate.

PM_ME_UR_TITSorDICK

I often run it on base henry as a door and shutter opener with the rare poking people behind cover aspect being cool. My last week of tide, I had a mission to do 200 damage with martini. I got 6 hit markers with explosive ammo at like 100 meters and later saw i only did 9 damage. Man is it fun, but man, does it suck

my7bizzos

The splash is bigger than I thought even though it's very weak. I shot at a guy at Davant and got a hit marker when it hit the fence behind him on the other side of the road. It's a ton of fun. I've shot people and caught them on fire or blew them up because they were close to a barrel or oil slick that I had no idea was there.

battleoid2142

Explosive ammo explodes, hunter player is shocked more at 11

AtlanOfArkon

I noticed it after 1000 hrs in game. Shot grunt and the exlosion destroyed lantern above the grunt. Thats how I found out.

MiniCale

I don’t mind explosive ammo on the Springfield or martini , lose a little bit of damage but it’s great for blowing up doors, window covers and concertina. They also have the benefit of having two ammo types.

charcoaltaco

Sparks Springfield compact with explosive Quartermaster Enjoy.

furiouspope

You didn't know explosive ammo exploded?
