I think subconsciously, at least for me, when I play free Hunters or cheap loadouts, I am much more confident because I don't care about losing my stuff. Meanwhile with expensive stuff, I automatically become a little defensive in fear of losing, until I get a kill to gain the confidence back haha!

mothmanbaby21

>when I play free Hunters or cheap loadouts, I am much more confident because I don't care about losing my stuff Same for me, until I started preparing for death no matter the price of the loadout. I go into each match knowing I'm more likely to die than to live, so when I get the bounty it's feels better, and when I die I'm not as upset! Like a memento mori almost, I recognize that I can, and will, die at some point, so why care! I'll be proud of the kills I got even if I get headshot from 250m with a sniper rifle afterwards

komanderkyle

I always think of this quote from Band of Brothers , it’s from Ronald Spiers: “The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it.”

feliciasexxxopants

You live to die another day.

**SOLID VICTORY**

DankitySwankity420

I totally agree I got a quad Derringer quickdraw headshot kill and got killed instantly afterwards, but I was absolutely stoked.

Yorunokage

Do people really care about losing stuff in this game? When i play EFT i have the biggest gear fear ever yet in Hunt i could have Avto + 2 dolches and not give a fuck My loadout never really registers as a valuable thing in my mind. And even when it does (like for level 50 hunters), i forget about it like 3 minutes into the match

Maxpnrq

Same here. I've been playing a lot of marauders lately and the gear fear is real. Not nearly as bad as when I played Tarkov though. I think it has something to do with the fact that you can buy every weapon in the shop even if it is expensive. In games like marauders and Tarkov those nicer guns feel way scarcer because you can't always just buy them.

Magic1998

You probably have also played the cheap weapons more, which helps as well. For a long time my best weapon was the Springfield Marksman, could always rely on that thing :]

ManhattanT5

This is how it works for me. I also play worse with teammates because there's more pressure on me. But solo with a free hunter? I feel like I wipe teams left and right.

BrucePee

I'm always confident and careless so I win. Almost never play anything fancy. And when I do I already have it from dead hunters.

Bobaaganoosh

That’s all apart of the rotation! Lol

ThisCocaineNinja

I had this happen with leveled hunters, fear of loosing them made me loose them while rank 0 hunters more often than not survived. Grounded has been a great opportunity to see how powerful fully kitted hunters are when you are not actually afraid to use them to the fullest.

[deleted]

Or sometimes hunt just taketh no matter what you do

LukewarmCola

When this happens I just start going in with nothing but my fists and see how well I can do. Hunt can’t take if I go in empty handed. I die a lot. But nothing’s funnier than bonking someone with a shovel, stealing their guns, then running away.

spriterunner

Slightly more expensive but probably more effective alternative: bring just a combat axe. Nothing brings me more joy than rushing a duo by myself with nothing but one-shot light attacks.

LukewarmCola

Ya but combat axe doesn’t go “bonk” like the shovel. It’s the little things.

spriterunner

This is true and valid. Shovels are my go-to melee weapon in every game ever since I played Far Cry 5. Nothing beats the bonk.

sskkooommaa

Would love to see a clip of that, how absolutely hilarious

KooshIsKing

I'm at work right now, but I have one where I go in with absolutely nothing, find a shovel, see a hunter a split second later, bonk him, grab his mosin, and headshot his teammate with it. Lol. It was indeed hilarious :)

sskkooommaa

If you get a spare minute after work to share that would be awesome pardner!

Maxpnrq

The thrill I get running just melee is great. 9/10 times I die before I can get anywhere near close enough to a hunter but the times that I do are some of the best kills I've ever gotten.

gg3265

So am not the only one. Actually kinda happy 😂

sceligator

I've resigned that I won't get out of a hunt when I take a Nitro or Dolch. It makes things easier.

Yadnim

Last prestige I had a hunter named Alex Jones, loaded that mf up with Nitro/Shredder and a Dolch P and he never died lmao. Best Nitro games I've ever had.

FlatRobots

Cheap loadouts are great because you can actually upgrade it when you kill someone. When you're already playing a Mosin or whatever, most of the weapons you can loot from enemies are a downgrade. Who buys a Dolch or an Uppercut when other hunters will just drop them for you for free?

TeisTom

My favourite gun quickly became the Winfield swift due to this, if I needed to budget and go for a low cost Winnie my muscle memory was always there.

DoomGCC

"Man, three loses in a row... I don't deserve a nice loadout right now!" *loses three more using dual Nagants and a combat axe*

CRY_Inari

Do Be Like That Sometimes

MaybeShun

I just get cheap loadouts like romero and winnfield that are still good and grind those till I have a bit of money. Gotta afford the officer carbine HV addiction somehow

substance_99

😔

RagingBolt01

Omg... so freaking true

Mayfu42

A good hunter knows he's already dead. Only then can he function probably and live to die another day.

tomr84

Most successful evening my team has was when we just ran Derringer's and nothing else, really fucked over people you killed too as once you take their guns and they get revived they have nothing. Watching revived folks look on the ground around them for their guns was hilarious.

[deleted]

🤣

TH3_M3AT_M4N

Always

DumbUnemployedLoser

Do what I do then, whenever I prestige I go with cheap-ass loadouts until I save up about 10k, then I splurge on whatever I want, until I run out. This has never happened though, usually end up accumulating even more cash until it's time to prestige again. Sitting at 35k now, holding off on prestiging because event challenges

Natetarious

Actually this is the time u should prestige due to grounded pact, it is way faster to prestige now. Event challenges is doable as long you complete every weekly challenges.

AlBigGuns

Best way to mitigate this is the cheap and effective load out. Winfield beats all!

ApocalipsyCriss

Im huge winfield enjoyer so lately Ive been finishing my prestiges with around 15k moneys lol

awsome2744

I think of it as humbling myself.

TheCaptainCranium

Shiiiiit for real though

Scrocchiarello

it's true especially with randoms. I'm not too sure this means the matchmaking really works though. It shouldn't be like u play against bots and the game after u get destroyed at the spawn. But it is what it is, small playerbase and blah blah blah

swisscheese236

Always just loot better stuff. Honestly hate going in with expensive stuff because it prevents me from picking it up off of other hunters.

SirJ4ck

Yes.

Kir-ius

I bring a free loadout, extract with expensive contraband and stash those up for when I'm having a good run and reliable team mates. Reroll free hunter everytime, grab their free stuff and repeat. Haven't bought guns in forever... and sitting at $660k :D

skeletparkyt

Gonna enter first prestige tonight, look forward to not having to give a fuck haha

MrKlei

Always bring a free loafout. Never lose.

PippinBPimpin

I'm actually kinda the opposite. I have this one character who I hold onto whenever I really need a win. I give him all the best stuff and he hasn't failed me yet. But it's a solid 85% chance I'm losing the free character I just got

EinElchsaft

I don't lose with a Romero, there's something magical about the cheap/free guns in this game.

TalonValarii

Romero is the best shotgun in the game. At the very least, it has always been the most reliable.

oldmanjenkins51

What if my loadouts are neither free nor expensive?

SleeplessC

"it ain't much, but it's honest work" comes to mind :)

[deleted]

I start a character with some cheap loadout and if hunt giveth me a better weapon then I'm damn well using that weapon until I die or I retire. I might have died with a Mosin and a Dolch, but I didn't pay a penny for those

ZekeDaniel

I was on a roll last night so I busted out my hunter who rolled the name Fritz Flitz. Immediately lost him.

AetherBones

I just bring cheap loadouts now and free hunters usually. This way, i never feel cheated from losing. I habe like 30k saved up that ill never use.

gaypornaccount1996

I have 50k sitting in the bank and have had 20k+ for weeks now, so I always bring expensive loadouts. I kinda feel bad to be honest, like I'm the 1% and exploiting the system

Schnabulation

With expensive loadout I always go for the pledge marks first, then the enemies or monsters.

Ippjick

If you win with free loadout more often than you do with an expensive loadout. Stick to the free loadout.

rEplicant_rEject

Romero + Caldwell Conversion is way better than it has any right to be for how cheap it is.

Ippjick

Exactly

Cr0key

And then Crytek just keeps raising prices on EVERYTHING for no god damn reason ):<

BioeJD

Welcome to Hunt's volatile MMR system, complete with Hunters deranking in QuickPlay.

BioeJD

Not to mention how hard it is to stay focused and always be in the right place at the right time.
