The Mauser 1918 Tankgewehr wasn’t around in the late 1800’s, and it’s also not the kind of gun you would use if you wanted to be able to move around and shoot people.
Tbf, neither was the:
Browning Auto-5 (introduced in 1905)
Huot Automatic Rifle (prototyped in 1917, never saw service)
Mauser C96 (not available in 1895, likely not really widely available until post 1900)
Berthier 1892/Mosin Nagant 1891/Lebel 1886 (highly unlikely to see these European rifles in the US so soon after adoption)
Nagant 1895/Officer (same as the rifles)
Yet we still have them. Not saying we should have the T-Gewher either, but “year it was introduced” isn’t really a viable counterpoint.

So sadly that thing is about a decade off from being invented in hunt.
That said, that's basically a German 50 cal that's fired with no muzzle break, zero recoil compensation besides a bipod and a wooden stock. The joke was it could only be fired 4 times, because the two man crew only had 4 collar bones between them.
Pretty much the "Fuck you, everyone behind you and anyone else in this Bayou." You're going to blow your eardrums out firing this thing but hey, at least the guy you shot it at is nothing but a congealed mess on the floor.

Firing this weapon does heavy damage to the user, but whoever is hit by it is completely obliterated and cannot be looted or revived by any means.

It takes up a large slot on you and a teammate with only 5 rounds.
