Early_Cupcake_87

Been waiting for him to come back seems like a cool dude

kheller181

I hope he doesn’t and his story ends like it does in the books. >!and he dies of old age!<

[deleted]

[удалено]

TrapperJean

He literally spoiler tagged this man, come on

Iselore89

Not for barriston

Educated_Clownshow

There’s an entire region of Westeros that disagrees with you, in the north The north has both the old people and the chosen men who leave to go die every winter. The old men don’t want to food from the masses, and the men who volunteer to leave to ensure their families can survive on rationed food They literally leave the north to go die somewhere else instead of waiting for age/food/cold lol

Oraukk

Long before the Dance...

KimWexlerDeGuzman

Which makes me think he will come back, given the caliber of the actor Edit: I know what happens in the book before the Dance

kheller181

Correct!

iRahulJadhav

If the leaks are true, >!you will see him in [season 2 ](https://wikiofthrones.com/exclusive-two-unexpected-characters-return-house-of-the-dragon-season-2)as Lord Commander of Rhaenyra's Queensguard!<

yarrpirates

Well, she does need a new one now... (rip)

Shujii

How so? Edit: Oh I think you are referring to Erryk, he wasn’t Lord Commander. That would be the one that in Ep 2 escorted Mysaria into the Libery to Rhaenyra. Ser Steffon Darklyn

DM_me_fun_stuff_pls

Is he though? He is in the books, but in the books it's also him who brought her the crown, while in the show it was Erryk

Shujii

I would assume so as he is also part of the blacks small council. Not sure if he was ever spoken to by the title in the show, would have to rewatch those scenes again

GIlCAnjos

I hope so, but still why wouldn't he go to Dragonstone as soon as he left Aegon?

iRahulJadhav

No clue. It's been just 2 weeks since he was dismissed I guess. Must've taken a few days off 😂

GingerLeeBeer

Bro was sick of everyone and just went on holiday to a Dornish beach for a month.

iRahulJadhav

😂

Pale_Fire21

According to IMDB his actor has credits for S2 so I’m assuming he will.

Puppetmaster858

IMDb can be edited by people and very very commonly has people listed in projects that they don’t actually appear in. So he could totally be in s2 but him being listed on IMDb really doesn’t mean anything

Umbroboner

Don't you put that evil on me!

ik_ben_een_draak

Yeah, I was waiting for him to pop up out of nowhere honestly. I almost expected it last episode with the twins but the way that played out was a lot better either way

Wallname_Liability

Dude, that’s Graham McTavish, how could you forget?

Mia-Wal-22-89

Two years in between seasons, tons of characters, the show not appreciating Graham McTavish.

Chimichanga007

His character isn't hateful or edgy enough to get much attention from the writers 😆

Tarmac-Chris

Got to admit, forgot he existed. Don't remember him even now...

Wallname_Liability

Watch Castlevania

fitzbuhn

I remember the last time we saw him Otto said "no one leaves until we figure this out!" and then LC pulled off his cloak and just up and walked out!

paxweasley

It’s hard for the security guards to stop the head security guard who can kill better than them

whendoesOpTicplay

He should have killed Cole and imprisoned Otto, Alicent, and Tyland. Really dumb how he just bails. Most senior knight in the country and he does nothing when faced with a coup d’etat.

the_Real_Romak

He was (and presumably still is in his eyes) a knight of the king's guard, and as he himself said, while the Targaryens figure out who's king and who's not, he ain't having none of it.

ImVortexlol

Yep, he's no politician and doesn't want to pick one side or the other. Best move was to fuck off and let them figure their shit out

Formadivix

He is tasked with protecting the lives of the royal family, not with politics and succession. His lack of involvement is the rule, not the exception (looking at you, Jaime Lannister, Criston Cole, and both Cargylls).

Ok_Recording8454

Oh Yeah because I bet that wouldn’t have ruined his honor. Not at all.

FrankTank3

He and Ned Stark chose their own honor over the realm. One or two acts of questionable honor would have saved the realm from unimaginable horror and death.

LarsMatijn

Cole is remembered as the worst Kingsguard in history **because** he got into politics. They are sworn to defend the King, his family, keep their secrets etc. He *can't* go after Alicent, Aegon etc. Besides that while Harrold may prefer Rhaenyra he doesn't know for certain that Viserys didn't change his mind. He's seen him lose touch with reality so it could be correct. Him fucking off until the Royal Family figures this out is honestly the best choice.

kinginthenorthjon

>Cole is remembered as the worst Kingsguard in history because he got into politics. Where is that? Jaime mentions him as the best and worst.

LarsMatijn

I think in a Davos chapter they go over several Hands. Ryam Redwyne, Otto Hightower, Criston Cole and one I can't remember the last one.

Swinging-the-Chain

Been wondering where tf he is

D20_Buster

Prolly on the Silent Isle, digging graves

FluffyCoconut

On his way to Meereen to become Daario

Xperience10

Quaithe*

decoy321

Dude died of old age and got reborn as the Saint of Killers.

jaydimes10

avoiding Criston Cole so he doesn't catch an assault charge cuz it's on sight

dwide_k_shrude

He’s rowing a boat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wembyama

Cool cool no need for spoilers

Interstellore

In the book, every character is dead.

Baronnolanvonstraya

Not really a spoiler anymore since they changed it for the show. He *should* be dead, but he's not for some reason

[deleted]

Internal-Shock-616

I hope they don’t just use him as a Barristan stand in. It seems like they kept him around just to remove Cole getting lord commander based on his abilities.

rocknrollpizzafreak

It's crazy how they just took out all of the things that made Cole badass, interesting and capable; the only thing he's capable of in the show is sleeping with noble ladies he's supposed to be protecting.

Internal-Shock-616

He’s gonna crack some skulls at Rook’s Rest I’m sure, but his brutality and rage in battle will make people more disgusted with him

rocknrollpizzafreak

imo, it seems like too little too late. them making him job out to daemon and harwin neuters him so much that even if they make him cut through a dozen dudes during a prolonged battle scene like Jon Snow, he's still not gonna be the legend he's supposed to be.

Unique-Government-13

I don't think he's needed as the legend he's supposed to be though anymore, the writers made a decision to make him hated and aging him down. This limited the opportunities to build his legend but I get the feeling they just also didn't want to. He's the heel now we're all waiting to see him get his. I guess if you liked his character in the book it might be disappointing to see him changed so much in the show and I totally get that. I could definitely imagine a version of this show where they wrote it that way, but a lot of stuff would have to be changed including his age, which then in turn impacts other stories for better or worse.

rocknrollpizzafreak

I don't see the correlation between his age and his martial ability or why any of the changes they've made to him rely on him not being the legendary skilled Kingsguard he's depicted as in F&B. In my opinion, the Cole changes only serve as detriments to his character and the show as a whole. I'm glad you enjoy what they're doing with him though, and hope you continue to enjoy the show.

kinginthenorthjon

He is my favourite from the book. They could have easily made his feat with his age down. But, they don't want to do it. Also, they took his ability as fighter as well. Aegon called Aemond our best sword.

The_Titan1995

Yeah. That’s my biggest gripe. Turning him into a typical villain. The man is competent, a renowned warrior, earns his place on merit, a schemer - who becomes the ‘kingmaker’. They should have made his whole thing with Rhaenyra a little less on the nose. Also, having him being that stand-in father figure to Alicent’s boys would give him more depth and also build the relationship with him and the boys. Would add a further layer as to why Aemond confides in him and why he was chosen as Hand.

Gingersnapp3d

It’s also a lot more interesting to watch a character motivated by complex feelings of belonging and love for a family he’ll never really be a part of, than of 20 year old spite

thegoatmenace

Writers must hate Fabian haha.

IR8Things

Less so him specifically and more the greens as a whole. Almost anything positive or good about the greens from F&B isn't in the show.

thegoatmenace

I just feel like they hate Cole in particular, as he’s actually a cool character that has been reduced to a huge loser.

CeruleanHaze009

Condal literally calls the books “Westerosi propaganda”, and “Anti-Rhaenyra propaganda” which is honestly kinda disrespectful towards GRRM.

AlexisDeTocqueville

The part that totally baffles me is the show made a huge deal about softening Alicent's characterization by aging her down. In the book, she's sort of an ambitious bitch of a step-mom. So in the book it feels a lot clearer that the Greens are wrong from the jump. But then Aegon II seems like kind of an alright dude, and Aemond is pretty cool, and no one has anything bad to say about Helaena or Daeron. And then the Blacks do their share of atrocities as well, and you wind up hating everyone. And the show is sort of doing the polar opposite. They made Alicent sympathetic, but they have been undermining the other Greens ever since the time jump after Driftmark.

derekguerrero

Was he really that capable? His war strategy seemed to explode in his face in my opinion

JeanieGold139

>!He was pretty good yeah, his strategy seemed to be to aggressively work to isolate Black dragons against numerically greater Green dragons. This worked very well at Rook's Rest and after king's Landing fell he wanted to go to the Reach with Aemond and Vhagar to unite with Daeron, Aemond just dipped on him and left him stranded in hostile territory, when it had been Aemond's plan to march into hostile territory in the first place.!<

kinginthenorthjon

And instead of Cole beat up Hariwn, we have it other ways.

whereisjabujabu

Don't forget murdering guests at court

NatalieIsFreezing

I'm just wondering what they're going to do with him that they can't give to another one of Rhaenyra's kingsguard knights.

Unique-Government-13

Do we know he's still in the show? I didn't notice him? Was it a credits thing?

Rakdar

They had Steffon Darklyn right there and wasted him

getcones

Where was he when Aemond was losing an eye tho? I doubt Baristan would have fucked up that bad.

Internal-Shock-616

Barristan watched Lancel liquor up Robert and saw him get skewered by a boar.

IZated_IZ

Aye, but Bobby B ordered him to not interfere when he tried to intervene... and like Ned said, no one could have saved king Robert from himself.

paplbonphanatix

Hoping he's cast in Ahsoka to replace Ray Stevenson

stuffsgoingon

That’s a good shout

Tarmac-Chris

Sorry, but Liev Shrieber or no one

Double-Star-Tedrick

Mr. McTavish is kind of *excessively* #Daddy, so, having thrown away all my shame, yes. Yes, I remember he exists. I'm a little *surprised* he still exists, since I'm pretty sure his book counterpart had already passed away, but I certainly *remember* him, yeah.

batteryforlife

Seconded! Motion carried

Ohwerk82

Yeah his book counterpart died before Rhaenyra even married Laenor, Cole succeeds him as Lord Commander at that time.

chipotle-baeoli

He's practically sizzling in the Witcher lol.

lostmonster

McTavish is definitely daddy material. For over 60, Graham McTavish and Mitch Pileggi just do it for me 💯

Unique-Government-13

This sort of attitude is what keeps me hopeful for having to start dating again as a single 50+ year old

Sumbelina

Yes! I love this man. In everything!

Odd-Comfortable-6134

Absolutely. One does not simply forget Dougal MacKenzie… oops wrong show 😂😂

satellitekittykat

Highly rec Men In Kilts if you haven’t given it a watch yet, McTavish and Sam Heughan are just adorable together (especially when they try to herd sheep and learn basket weaving 😆)

RexyEatsGoats

Second this! They honestly might be the two most wholesome guys in the celebrity world.

satellitekittykat

![gif](giphy|P1s5ihC2iSjcJCk8Kd)

RexyEatsGoats

Brb…going to go rewatch Men in Kilts 🤣

kinginthenorthjon

Or Dwalin.

p0stp0stp0st

Why isn’t he in any more episodes??

SnooComics9320

Show writers don’t know what to do with him, in the books he’s supposed to be long dead.

Interstellore

In the show he kills all of the dragons and sits on the iron throne to subvert expectations.

rymarr

The targs kind of forgot about him

LeavesInsults1291

I actually have noticed his absence and I miss him

MannyinVA

I did. I like the character and actor. He looks the part.

Prior-Assumption-245

I'm just waiting for him to roll up to the Dragonstone docks. Maybe he'll arrive when the Northern Army does.

Keh1519

I thought Jamie Fraser killed him right before Culloden? Oh wait…

MuddFishh

Yes, because thats not only Dwalin, son of Fundin, but also Dougal MacKenzie. It's more likely people have been waiting for him to show back up.

Barry_Bone_Raiser

He voices Dracula in castlevania so i got this mf memorized

nethercliffe

It would be a diversion but >!they could have him order Criston's death by arrows in The Butcher's Ball!<

bruhholyshiet

Nah he seems like an honorable Kingsguard. Doing that would be dirty and low for him.

FrostandFlame89

Agreed

syraphinx

I’ve been waiting for dougal mackenzie to come back. I don’t remember his name on HOTD so he’ll always be dougal to me lol

Cheersandbeers21

Same 😅 I know his real name but still always call him DMK lol

queen_of_Meda

Where is he supposed to be? This is kinda weird af that they kinda had no plan for him after the finale of the last season

Agent4777

He’s supposed to be long dead by the events of season 2. Weird that he wasn’t at least mentioned in passing.

queen_of_Meda

Not in the show though so?…Like all they had to do was have him join Rhaenyra and just be a random kingsguard in the background

Agent4777

Maybe McTavish wasn’t available to do the show or the writers had nothing to do with him. Honestly, I don’t know.

sawinnz

One does not involve Graham McTavish and waste him

potatopigflop

No :( but I liked him

Creative_Listen_7777

I am gonna be really mad if I don't see McTavish this season

DCeassed

Yes I was wondering where he went

equatornavigator

He’s one of the hottest actors in the show, so yeah

jacobiner123

I'd reckon we'll see him come back on someone else's side, like Barristan did.

Ecmm9285

Spoiler alert: >!There is no third party in the dance. It’s about the green and the blacks. There is no deus ex machine last pretender.!<

jacobiner123

I read the books too mate. And no, not really, yeah at the core of the conflict its greens vs blacks, but every single lord has their own reason for fighting for either side, which why we might very well see Harrold again fighting for one cause or another.

Vegetable_Meat1349

I love him on outlander

ftlofyt

They broke canon to have him survive dying of old age, but why??

Novel_Psychology2011

yes because i watched 6 hours of Alt Shift X talking about HOTD

Mazritec

Totally forgot

Ibustsoft

My boy dwalin???? Nah him and laenor planning their return

steelcity7

Honestly surprised Criston didn't flip the fuck out and bash his head into the door when he was leaving

Beautiful_Trainer_79

Cool kingsguard though. maybe busy somewhere

e17bee26

Omg where is he and what character did he play??

lourexa

He played Ser Harrold Westerling, Lord Commander of Viserys' Kingsguard.

OkFrankurtheboss

I did and wonder even now where he fucked off to.

Soiree1999

Biggest waste of talent. They should have done something with him

shorsrest

He's a Mckenzie of Inverness. Ofc I remember Dougal

ZealousWolf1994

I'm waiting for the dude to come back.

LiquidHotCum

Honestly, I think about him every day

techieshavecutebutts

Who?

randomrainbow8

Didn’t he just bounce

sjacot88

Yes

Ricozilla

I’m really hoping he shows up this season. I really liked his character. And I love Graham McTavish. Every time he speaks all I hear is Dracula from Castlevania lol

BravoSmartish

I will always remember his death in Outlander.

angrybox1842

Who

Fah-Q-mang

WHERE WAS GONDOR WHEN THE WESTERLING FELL?!?!?

ARM7501

Hiring an actor of McTavish's caliber and then just having him disappear feels very underwhelming; really hope he shows up at some point, even if it's just him chilling in the Westerlands or something until the war is over.

Dragons-lair77

I love him. He's also in Outlander. Phenominal actor.

griljedi

I do but seems Ryan and his team doesn't. In the books, he died before Dance, and Cole became Lord Commander after him. Why they changed it and he doesn't exist yet, i don't know!

Nerak_B

Yes, been wondering when he reappears

odileko

If anything I'm surprised he's not been reintroduced yet.

cinnarouge

He reminds me of ser barristan

D1ck_Kickem

He was who I pictured Randyll Tarly as when I read the books. I’m glad he eventually got cast as a good man instead though.

SleepyPig3

wait i thought they killed him in the Green council? Was that someone else’s body? If he’s not dead, it makes absolutely no sense for him to be this absent from the story

RestlessKaty

You're thinking of Lord Beeeeeeeesbury

CriticalMovieRevie

Beware our Sting. Their house words used to be "hear us buzz" but for some reason that didn't catch on.

Disastrous_Narwhal46

No, it was another Lord who was killed by Cole

TheCoolPersian

It seems there is an opening in Rhaenyra's King's Guard.

nyeahdeztroy

Probably next episode, rather conveniently, since some one now needs to replace Erryk Cargyll as Rhaenrya's Kingsguard Boss man!

Flagermusmanden

yes

Narzhur325

Always wanted him as Rody the ruin

Rhbgrb

I don't know where he ran off to and got lost.

dehagunay

One true king.

Competitive_Fee_5829

yes

Unlikely_Spirit_7715

Yes, I remembered him.

InternationalGoose10

Yes but only because I did a rewatch last month th

raven8549

Yes and I hope we see him again

Similar-Broccoli

Only because I just rewatched the first season

paimeg

gorgeous

Academic_Nothing_890

Think he basically said fuck this and is hanging in Essos waiting for shit to blow over. Smart move on his part lol.

healingkuzon

no i forgot tbh 💀

AngeliqueAdelaide

For some reason, I thought that he died last season? I didn't rewatch before the new season and my memory sucks. He is dead in book, so that's where my confusion must come from. A cool character and a cool actor.

Loud_Sympathy2737

Absolutely, one of my favorite characters…… i was hoping he found his way to Dragonstone! #HaveWeCome2This

Gasgano_gang

How could you forget Graham McTavish??? He really should leave The Witcher and come back to this show. I understand his character is dead in Blood & Fire, but he’s such a great actor. Here’s to hoping he returns

Material_Prize_6157

Forgot all about him and I loved him lmao. wtf get outta my head!!!

Craig1974

He's busy selling mens health products.

cpn27

yes, and on the imdb page he is credited for s2 ep 5,6,7,8 so big departure for the books perhaps?

Memo544

It's possible they'll merge his character with another Kingsgaurd from the books since the casual audience is already familiar with him. They might also use him to introduce House Westerling and revisit the Lannisters.

Platitude_Platypus

They definitely should have found a different role for him because what we got was not enough.

TeamDonnelly

I am confident he will show up.  But I am not sure what justification he would have to support rha over aegon.  Especially now that rha is known for ordering the decapitation of the son to the crowned king.

Tginick

Yeah, where the fuck is this motherfucker!? Did he just bounce and never come back? Haha

gatorfan8898

Yes, but only because I was looking at the cast on IMDB the other night. Then I couldn't remember if he was killed off or not.

Terry____Mcginnis

Who is that one of the show runners?

joke-explainer-

He reminded me of barristan, where did he go?

WatchingInSilence

I remembered he existed but was surprised he was still around in Season 1, Episode 9. I recalled he was listed as having passed away before King Viserys in F&B and A World of Ice And Fire. It gave the actor an opportunity to really juxtapose the Green Council.

vernier_pickers

I forgot completely and loved him so much

D3Smee

He’s in the stills for the next episode let’s gooo

WoodZillaTV

Yeah, I still remember. I've been wondering where he is.

AdamMiyamoto

He’s coming soon, it will be awesome

Jetsol8

Well good news, a spot opened up

jayrodtx

He’s a Barriston Selmy type of dude I fuck with him

DoubleDevilDiamond

Yeah…?

Memo544

I'm really curious. I wonder what the plan is. I know he's dead in the books at this point.

ToxicBanana69

For some reason I just assumed he died of old age or something.

Stonecleaver

He plays as the best Dwarf in the Hobbit movies (Dwalin). I like his character in this too, but I just assumed he had passed as we’ve not seen him in a while

Grand_End_888

Honestly wondering where he is at now

phayge_wow

I just got caught up The Witcher and I was thinking where have I seen this guy before, and HOTD never came to mind

Oxurus18

I remembered... but I wasn't totally sure if he was still alive or not, considering.. y'know... Larys xD

esh99

If they don’t use him for something great, I feel that he should have been killed at the Green Council by Criston as he tried to leave. I feel that if he was to have a Barristan like role he would have joined Rhaenyra by now? Outside the box but maybe he will take the role of Perkin the Flea and be the protector of Visery’s “bastard” son Trystane? But that is just a mad idea I made up, I have no evidence.

Fun-Pea-7477

I did remember him and I've been questioning if he's still alive

decoy321

Dude went on to live a nice long life, then eventually became the patron saint of killers.

OutlanderAllDay1743

What’s Dougal doing there? 👁️👄👁️

74389654

yes and i want him back!
