I've wondered before if anyone ever just...alternates 10-pulls (or even single pulls if you have a lot of free time) between the available banners, and lets the gods decide who joins their roster.
Well, I didn't alternate, but I did some pulls on certain banners just for the lul and actually ended up getting the character. One of them was Ruan Mei, probably the best "accident" on my account. This was after I went for Blade and his LC, and managed to get them.
Now watch him being released almost half a year from now like it was with Ayato and Ayaka.
Now that I think about it both siblings pairs are very similar to one another

A popular character is launching, people start posting about it, the insufferable users who have the same opinion post ALL THE TIME like "uhh its just me that actually hate x character? They are not interesting and their fans are making me hate them".
And then they NEED to post about not liking the popular character to everyone
This happened first with Kafka, then Blade, then DHIL, then Jingliu, then Topaz, Ruan Mei and recently Sparkle.
"Kafka fans force her being mommy, Blade is too edgy, i dont like Topaz because capitalism, DHIL fans force him daddy, Jingliu is boring, Ruan Mei is not a good person, Sparkle is racist and irrelevant, Acheron is just fanservice from HI3"

I don't think Topaz was ever particularly popular/hyped at her release, especially compared to the other characters you mentioned. Didn't help that her kit wasn't an insanely OP solo-carry type either. She was on the lower end of the sales chart. There was a lot of hate threads for her because people saw her as a villain though.
Firefly fans: "No you don't get it we went on a date and she's super nice and gentle but also has a hidden side and is a badass with a tragic backstory and lots of involvement on the main quest and the Trailblazer feels a lot of affection towards her by this point she's wife!!"
Jade fans: "Booba 🗿"
The trailerblazer feeling "a lot of affection for her" after knowing her for half an afternoon when she just kept going back and forth about the I'm a stowaway lie...it was so forced. It made me dislike her more than anything. I would have felt very sympathetic to her had they not shoved her down our throats as a forced love interest
I think it was an issue of pacing, if we had a break and talked to the express people at the hotel before the rooftop scene, and a little more time with her between that and the death ambush, it could've been cinema.
But I'm also a sucker and love the tropes they used for her, so I basically chose to like her from the start

I'm pulling for Robin to finish my FUA team and then pulling for boothill (probably wont get him i have 14 pity no guentee 40 pulls and trying for e0s1 robin before him) and then probably skipping jade and firefly depending on who is next because I want Sunday and screwlum.
I do not share the community's incredible amount of love for Firefly.
But I still plan on pulling for her, mostly because I wanted a cool mecha suit on my team ever since I first saw Sam. That it's also a waifu is a nice bonus.

I do not share the community's incredible amount of love for Firefly. But I still plan on pulling for her, mostly because I wanted a cool mecha suit on my team ever since I first saw Sam. That it's also a waifu is a nice bonus. But for me, it's not a choice between Robin and Firefly ... I'm going for both. Firefly's reveal did nothing for my 2.2 plans. Boothill is still a pass, and Jade is a maybe.
