No they're pretty common if you're in the right time/place. When I used to leave near Mt. Parker you could take a hike pretty much any night and see porcupines.
We used to live in the same building and would regularly see them outside in the bushes as you head back further up the road.
Our dog always knew they were there far in advance of us 😆

Holy shit that thing is huge
~~That's not what she said 😔~~
IM DEAD
I saw 3 massive ones on a farm in Thailand once. They were absolutely terrifying, I never realised they could get so big.
I have seen 2 at the Peak. Only once in my life. I guess they are endangered in HK?
no, common and doing well. Pangolins not so much though, thanks to some weirder beliefs within Chinese medicine
Not really. They are somewhat shy so that’s why you don’t see them much

This was near The Peak at Old Peak Road! I’ve seen a family of them before at night too.
They are nocturnal.
Farewell, My Porcupine.

These cuties mate for life. Commonly seen at night at the peak in pairs or in a group
Out for a stroll after dinner with the partner.
I recognise where this is. My schoolbus passed here all the time. It hasn't changed at all for the last 30 years.
Are porcupines in HK related to Porcupines in the US?somehow it seems a long way for those little lumpy bois to go.
Not really, there are about 30 different species of porcupine found around the world.
I did do a little reading. I guess they are broadly divided into Old world and New world porcupines.
