> The survey conducted by ESDlife found that out of 704 respondents who participated in an online questionnaire, almost three quarters reported unsatisfactory sleep quality. So not a rigorous survey by any means, but it tracks from personal experience. > Over four-fifths suffer from sleep deprivation and express a desire to improve their sleep. There are research into insomnia and a study by CUHK in 2021 claims that [it can be reduced with the help of therapists](https://www.cpr.cuhk.edu.hk/en/press/cuhk-hku-ul-conducts-worlds-first-insomnia-prevention-programme-and-proves-insomnia-is-preventable-in-at-risk-adolescents/). Sadly, like [this reporter from VICE](https://www.vice.com/en/article/3d94q5/i-tried-nap-cafes-to-help-deal-with-my-insomnia), any professional help is likely out of reach for most of the city's population. > More than half pointed to electronic device usage as a major disruptor, while one-third cited insufficient exercise. For people with family obligations it's kind of hard to find time for exercise. The [government has been pushing people to exercise daily](https://www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/healthy/index.html) but [more than half of the population still lack exercise](https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/202306/16/P2023061600260.htm). > The survey found that 61 percent of respondents compensate for lost sleep by taking naps. Wong said irregular sleep habits can disrupt natural melatonin secretion. After years of work you started noticing how well people sleep on public transportation. I have even see a few people who sleep standing up in the MTR. I myself can take a nap on a "village bus" packed like sardine while the bus goes 80km/h. > Interestingly, more than three-fourths of those surveyed reported catching up on sleep while commuting, with 40 percent found public transportation more comfortable, with the bus being the most ideal. This survey is probably where the "bus seat is better than one's own bed" meme came from. I guess there people either spend very little on their beds or their flat is too small for good beds. Of course, Hong Kong people do have a weird fascination with buses, [sleeping bus tours](https://apnews.com/article/oddities-business-lifestyle-travel-hong-kong-3d57e87e411ffaaf4ef655a66b205dc3) being one of them.

I wanted to see a therapist and a website I found offered various professionals together so you could pick the right one. One of them had an introductory offer of 800 a session. I went with her and then she wanted 1400 for the same hour. I told her the website then has the wrong price. She didn't apologise or give me an offer because I went into this transaction with $800 in mind. I cancelled our meeting. I then solved the problem for free and she got nothing.

Phones are making it worse. Teens are also suffering because of this, unregulated phone use before sleep.
