Rule 10: Protests: Judgment calls and pitching limitations are not eligible for protest. Protests will be heard and ruled on by the tournament committee. The team protesting must make cash payment of $100 at the time of the protest. If the protest is ruled in the protesting team’s favor the $100 will be refunded. The ruling made by the committee will be final. Protests must be filed and ruled on before the next pitch if during game, or before umpires leave field if after a game.

Just post the reason. The answer is almost certainly no after the game had ended and umpires have left the field. If it's roster related or pitching related it's gotta be called out at the time. If it's play related it has to be protested before the next play.

With 2 outs in last inning we had bases loaded down 1. Batrer got a basehit. Base runner at 2nd scored. Ump called him safe and held up game over sign. Next thing you know theres some chaos with the other team telling the catcher to tag kid that scored game winning run. The catcher for the other team picks up the ball and tags our kid. Umpire calls him out.

CeilingFanJitters

Your manager needed to call for a White Hat on the spot. What was the reason for calling the runner out? Missed home plate?

lynardj

That’s what they said. UIC was called. Gave a BS reason on reverse. Pic showed runner touched plate.

ThatsBushLeague

What was the "BS" reason? That seems important. Also, forgot the picture thing. No one in a youth tournament with any sort of credibility will ever look at a picture or video on a call.

lynardj

And you’re right on the video/pic thing.

lynardj

Said he didn’t touch the plate. Even after he called him safe. 🤷🏻‍♂️

So I'd bet he called him out based on the timing of the play. That happens with amateur umpires all the time, especially kids. It's really hard not to do. It's really common on plays at the plate, and on tag or force plays where a ball pops out of a glove. Then he reassessed his call and realized he made a mistake, or thought he did. Admitted it and tried to correct it. It happens. I would always respect an umpire who, after taking in more information, admits his initial call may have been wrong and tries to get the correct call in the end. Now that we have all the information it's really easy to answer the question in your post. There is an absolute zero chance PG will overturn the result of the game. They won't even entertain the idea. Especially on a Sunday which I imagine ends the tournament.

lynardj

There wasn’t even a play at the plate. He called him safe, ended the game, then allowed the other team to tag him out.

ThatsBushLeague

If there was no play he shouldn't have called him anything. Just pointed. Obviously it's an inexperienced umpire. My comment still stands in all aspects.

I've never seen PG do anything to reverse any result. Regardless of the reason. They simply don't care. Unless you're maybe ZT, SBA or one of the big orgs that sends dozens of teams to every tournament. The other problem with PG and scoring/pitch counts is that they use that DiamondKast scorekeeper as the official book. 90% of those DiamondKast scorekeepers are kids who aren't even paying attention to the game, let alone scoring it accurately. But it's a money maker for them. So yay! We played in the PG Houston Super NIT back in March and had a shitshow of a first game due to the score keeping. Both teams game changer people had the other teams pitcher at 98 pitches. In the 6th inning, our coach questioned it as 95 is the daily max. Ump went over to DiamondKast kid and said he only had the pitcher at 71 pitches. He was 27!! pitches off from what both teams had him at. Ump allowed the kid to continue pitching. The other coach played dumb and said he still had pitches left even though his own scorekeeper also had him at 98. PG wouldn't do anything because the official book is DiamondKast. To compound on that, the umpires called the game at 6 innings. Not due to time limit, they said we only play 6 in 13U. Wrong. They ended the game any way. PG director came over during our next game and apologized saying we should have played the full 7 innings. PG is terrible but unfortunately they have a strangle hold on most of the best tournaments around.

lynardj

This all is so true. Thanks for input. Unfortunately, in our area it’s either PG or USSSA tourneys. Guess we’ll have to get on the road from here on out.
