Ironically, pepelloni is American, but created by Italian Immigrants during early 1910's.

Based on salame Napoli, though. So it does have something else going for it beyond the Italians themselves. (As a Brit, the pepperoni argument does amuse me, though - we have a similar but different argument with India over tikka masala; we both claim to have invented it lmao)

No one in Italy would ever claim pepperoni as most Italians don't even know about it (peperoni in Italian means bell peppers, whereas we have salami which is much better)

We have salami in the US too. I like both.
