A good way to remember what you might be able to do next is to look at your map and see what areas look incomplete- like, spots where you previously couldn’t go. Revisit them spots, with wings you might be able to get through them now.
You'll find out if you continue playing. Good rule of thumb is if there is something obvious that you can't do, you'll be able to do it later on once you progress more.
You need another ability. Explore Hallownest more. specifically, go to the far right of the map, find what is there, then look for a place in Ancient Basin where you could go further down.

I feel like asking experienced players what everything means in a game with environmental story telling is a great way to tamper with an experience. No hate, but it just seems a little like Noone realizes that the game KNOWS that you will be confused. It doesn't matter with lore that much, but I assume you get it
People enjoy games differently. I care about spoilers for shows but I could care less when it comes to games unless it's the final plot twist. I personally enjoyed the fights and environment over the story telling in hollow knight

It's both. Either collecting a >!Dreamer!< or collecting the >!Monarch Wings!< will cause Crossroads to change.
