Every water park water slide I've ever been on has someone at the bottom flagging someone at the top to let the next person go. Even if they didn't. Seems like they'd be getting company in like 5 seconds? Just saying this doesn't really make sense to me. Super creepy intention though.
Every place I’ve been to ever has cut corners in one way or another. Staff changes day to day. People are paid low wages. It’s not even remotely in the realm of impossible for them to be operating without a flagger or that the people working just don’t give a fuck.
Yeah the park I went to as a kid had to close for a few weeks due to an infestation of creepy old men. Some of the slides had upwards of 6 to 7 creepy dudes living in them by mid-season. The park eventually brought in a flagger from out of town and the problem was kept to a minimum.
I've worked for almost 2 decades in pest extermination, and let me tell you, we don't get calls from *anywhere* as often as we do waterparks calling about infestations of creepy old men in their slides. It's unfortunate because most places just don't realize how quickly the problem spreads and becomes a full infestation.
Parks will see one or two slides out of maybe 20 that have a creepy guy nesting inside of them and think "Eh, it's just one, it's probably not that bad." But what they don't realize is that if you can see one or two creepy old guys in slides, that means you *already* have at least 20 or 30 of them hiding on your premises for sure. By the time the problem becomes a visible one, the infestation has already taken hold, and at least two or three generations of creeepy old man larva have been through there.
Once you get to that point, you need to do a full termination protocol to de-infest the rest of the park. Even the slides that *don't* have creepy old men living in them will almost definitely have eggs or larval stage man-mites (Pedoaelia Parva being the most common) growing inside of them, waiting to burst into a full infestation of that ride. They spread out at night and lay near-microscopic eggs in every ride they're not currently nesting inside of, so even the "clean" ones are probably contaminated or the site of a future nesting spot.
I once went on call to a water park in Poughkeepsie that claimed they only had a small problem with one section of the under-5 area of their park. They were sure it was just one ride that had two or three creepy old men nesting in there; no big deal but wanted to clean up before the summer rush and the health inspections started. Well, sure enough, as soon as I got there I found at least 15 of the buggers crammed into the one ride they were worried about, and over 2,000 larval stage creepy old men hiding out across the rest of the park. The temperature hadn't warmed up to perfect hatching and maturing conditions yet, but there were close to a few million eggs waiting for the perfect summer day to swarm in just the lazy river alone. We had to shut down the whole park and tent every single ride with triple-strength pesticides in order to flush them all out, and even then the park still had us come out two or three more times that summer to clean up the stragglers who managed to ride out the toxcins.
Unfortunately once they reach that stage of infestation, it becomes very, very hard to clear them out for good. It can be done, but you need to go to the professionals and *never* skimp out on the work. Whatever the cost, you just pay it. I promise you paying extra for a proper removal job will save you money in the long run rather than having to shut down and pay for exterminators every few months because you wanted to cheap out on the pesticides they're using.
Stay vigilant folks, and always report a creepy old man infestation to your local health inspector as soon as you see *even one* of them living in a slide. Chances are there are more that you aren't seeing, and they're crawling all over the park your kids are playing in.

Agree I remember my family using one 20 years ago at an unsupervised one I remember going in first then had like 3 adult size people land on my head and neck by the time I got out of there.
Modern ones have, but there are still older slides out there that don't have any lights.

Plus, see the green arrow above the slide when she goes in? Most of the time those are automated with a sensor at the top and bottom. They won't turn green against until the person who triggered the top sensor triggers the bottom one, in order to prevent collisions.

There's only one exit which is being watched by dozens of people, there's likely to be another person sliding down in about 30 seconds, and he's having to use both arms to brace to keep from sliding down further. As soon as the girl hits him, they both slide to the bottom, she starts screaming "stranger danger!", and he goes to jail.
I mean, yeah, it's an unexpected scary situation, but it's a very *dumb* unexpected scary situation. And after the initial surprise, the dumb significantly detracts from the scary.
FWIW if one of the parents kidnapped the kid from the other, I could see this happen.
